Guns, prohibited ammunition, scopes, grenades, bullet proof vests seized from Metchosin home

West Shore RCMP seized a dozen guns and prohibited ammunition from a Metchosin home and a man in his 20s could face criminal charges.

The department’s street crime unit and uniformed officers raided the home Thursday and found firearms, some loaded, improperly stored throughout the house; under a bed, in the kitchen, living room and in a safe that was left unlocked, said West Shore RCMP spokesman Sgt. Max Fossum.

While the eight rifles and four hand guns were registered, some were modified with accessories such as scopes, lights and a tripod which might make them restricted or prohibited weapons, Fossum said. There were gun parts all over the house, evidence that the guns had been modified.

Const. Olen Bernardo, one of the investigators, said some of the guns were modified to look “more menacing” and he doubts any of them were used for hunting purposes.

Investigators also seized dozens of illegal magazines and three bullet proof vests. When police first entered the house, they also found grenades, which almost sparked a call to the RCMP explosives unit, but the grenades had been rendered safe.

“We’re asking the question, why so many guns?” he said.

No charges yet. The police are unsure if a crime has actually been committed.

"The fact that the guns were not locked up and that one of the hand guns was loaded is a major concern, Fossum said, because of the risk they could be stolen if the home was broken into."

This is what the left considers "reasonable" gun control

"... after all, we can't have just anybody being able to see their target, positively identify it, especially under conditions of darkness or at a distance, and/or be able to hold the gun steady enough to be able to hit that target."

I know this story is from Canada but here in America, I respond to that question with, "I don't need a reason."

Just wait until you find out how many books the guy had!! I mean, sure, there might be some limited freedom of the press (although, not much in Canada), but, this is going waaaay too far. Nobody needs that many books. That's why there are libraries. Ideas kill, you know.

Do lasers count as lights?

When police first entered the house, they also found grenades, which almost sparked a call to the RCMP explosives unit, but the grenades had been rendered safe.

Translation: They were those dummy, hollow training grenades you can buy at most flea markets and novelty stores.

So basically the police raided this guys house because somebody reported he had live grenades, which turned out to be dummy grenades. So to keep from being embarrassed and looking stupid the police find some minor technical violation about the way he stored his guns and ammo.

All of my firearms have been modified. This serves to personalize each one for the job for which I use it for. Some have bi-pods. Some have modified stocks. Some have optics/lights/lasers.

If you put a bumper sticker on a car, you have modified it from stock.

the article said lights so I guess they meant lights. If he had a laser on any of the weapons, the journalist would have gone spasmodic.

You can’t have a scoped rifle in Canada? I though I’ve seen pix of people hunting there with scopes.

Hmm, the guy was apparently home, the safe was unlocked, and guns (scary looking ones) were out of the safe.

Does not look like improper storage to me, if he was home. Now if he was not there and left dangerous scopes and dummy grenades out, then indeed send him to the Canadian version of gitmo./s

Certainly a good thing those Mounties were able to find all those assault weapon, people have no reason to have an assault weapon.

Just think how bad it would have been if those assault weapons could have gotten back in to their disguises as regular guns.

“...some of the guns were modified to look “more menacing” and he doubts any of them were used for hunting purposes...”

Well even though it is Canada, here is the real evil of what this guy did.

I mean firearms, in a polite society must not look menacing. After all isn't that what the assault weapon legislation was all about.

There was some talk about banning scopes in the US after the Texas Book Tower mass murder, but it never happened.
