CNN Priorities USA Fact Check (Steelworker's wife 'killed' by Romney quit job w/ health insurance)
CNN via YouTube ^ | Tuesday, August 7, 2012

Posted on 08/07/2012 5:34:00 PM PDT by kristinn

No description at YouTube, so my write up:

CNN's Brianna Kielar spoke with Joe Soptic, a former steelworker featured in a new pro-Obama super PAC ad who was laid off in 2001 when Bain Capital closed the company he had worked at for a reported 30 years. Without directly accusing Soptic and Priorities USA of being despicable liars, CNN lets its reporting call them out as despicable liars.

Soptic told CNN his wife had her own health insurance at her own job when he was laid off. Soptic said his wife quit her job a year or two later due to an unspecified injury, thereby losing her own health insurance. But Soptic still blames her death in 2006 from a brief bout with cancer due to his lack of family health insurance because he was laid off in 2001. In the Priorities USA ad, Soptic says it was a "short time later" from when he was laid off to when his wife got sick and died. CNN reports it was actually five years.

It was a few years later, in 2006, that Ilyona Soptic went to the hospital with symptoms of pneumonia. She was diagnosed with stage four cancer and passed away just days later.

Then no amount of health insurance coverage would have even made a difference even if all of the other allegations / inferences we are supposed to believe were true (which none of them are).

This is beyond disgusting.

As Rush would say, CNN just committed a random act of journalism.

Pretty irresponsible of a husband/family not to have healthcare. I guess he didn’t know how to function out of his union element.

SOOOO...I have only one question...

Is Mitt Romney planning to run an ad TOMORROW on every single station this despicable ad ran, blasting the lies and BLAMING OBAMA DIRECTLY for the ad?

If not, why not?

You know things are bad for Obama when even CNN calls him a lying sack of sh*t

>> If not, why not?

Because CNN just defused a potential disaster for Obama.

I’m not buyin’ it. There’s no way she could have seen a doctor in 2006 if she had no insurance. No insurance = no access to healthcare. That is why they passed obamacare. /sarc

CNN is realizing that Obama has lost the “Mandate of Heaven”.

Crossposting from one of the other threads ...

As disgusting as this ad is, it is also very much indicative of how the Obama Campaign is viewing the political landscape right now.

This is an ad designed not to boost Obama’s own base, or to flip moderates/independents over to him. It’s designed, explicitly, to suppress the white blue-collar/working-class voters that will either hold their nose and vote for Romney, or stay home.

It means they think they’ve topped out in terms of their own numbers, and now need to pursue other means to get to victory.

so, pretty much, the only real truth in the ad is the guy’s name and the fact that his wife died of cancer, which happens to about 500,000 per year in the US.

The ad RAN. It SHOULD be a disaster. How did CNN defuse it? It is up to Romney's people to wrap it around Obama.

This whole thing should fall under some criminal code...this is outrageous!!!!

Decent men are already being arrested for being falsely accused of rape. Do you really want to expand that?

I’m sure Burton knew this and let the ad run anyway. Keep Romney on defense by accusing him of murder. It’s the Chicago way.

obamabots commenting on the article see nothing wrong with falsely accusing Romney of murder.

Exactly! They aren’t doing this because they have seen the light and decided to do honest journalism. They are doing this to cover obama’s ass because the ad may have hurt him.
