Mitt Romney called on Harry Reid Tuesday to reveal the source for his claim that the Republican presidential candidate has not paid taxes for 10 years, stepping up pressure as two major fact-check sites ruled Reid had no basis for the "incendiary" allegation.
Romney, in an interview with Fox News, said he doesn't believe Reid has a credible source but urged the Senate Democratic leader to reveal who it is.
"I don't really believe that he's got any kind of a credible source," Romney said. "I don't know who gave him this line of reasoning, whether it came from the White House or the DNC or a staffer, but he ought to say where it came from, and then we can find out whether that person has any credibility. I know they don't."
He said Reid also has "lost a lot of credibility."
Romney's latest comments came as two major fact-check sites knocked down Reid's comments, which the senator amplified by repeating them last week on the Senate floor. Reid has said his source is an investor with Romney's former venture capital company Bain.
But PolitiFact wrote that it is "far-fetched" to believe Romney paid no taxes for 10 years.

The fact that this is not happening is proof enough that he paid his taxes.
Reid and the obama gang already have the ten years of Romney tax files, and have dug through them with a fine-tooth comb, but to release any of that private information would be admitting to a felony, by him, or his source(s), whoever that is...so, they’ve got to get Romney to release them in order to use the information on his own.
Politics is a dirty business.
Of course Reid is a liar - the WH put him up to it. Make baseless unsubstantiated claim and make Romney go on defense.
What Romney should do is call the bluff and tell Obama, “You’ll see my tax returns when I see your dubious transcripts - all of them!”
My niece who divorced her live in no-good that knocked her up (she’s no prize either) sued the tatooist (yea, a tatooist) for child support. This guy had a fantastic lawyer. Instead of responding to a paternity claim for support, he countered with a “prove you even had a baby - and that the baby was YOURS”....
Mitt needs to get balls like this.
It is a dirty business and Republicans tend to wear straight jackets in competing in it, while the Democrats wear ninja costumes, metaphorically speaking of course.
I still dont know if the accusation is that he didn’t file for 10 years, or filed but had no tax liability.
The fedguv has so successfully snookered the population via withholding and refunds, that no one can ever answer me when I ask what their liability was. They just know what they “get back”, even though it’s usually no different than welfare.
Reid has never said WHICH ten years.
I have it on good authority that Romney paid no income taxes for 1947-56.
Why doesn’t Romney just demand Reid release his taxes and be done with it? How about 0bama release his school records from Columbia? Just a straight, concise attack and let it hang.

All Romney need do is to find a half-dozen highly credible, high profile people (recently retired senior military officers, perhaps a member of the news media, and maybe someone like Louis Freeh), ask them to sign an agreement to not disclose any of the specifics of his tax returns, show them the last 10 years of returns so they can verify for the world that Harry Reid is a conformed liar, and that Romney did pay taxes for the past 10 years. Once he establishes that all he needs to do is remind people that the Obama IRS has had his tax documents to review for the past four years. So the fact that no action has been taken against him proves that his taxes were reviewed and deemed by the Obama IRS to be spotless.

Further, Romney should be ignoring this and having his PAC surrogates go after this bastard - like leaking stories about allegations that Reid owns interests in Nevada Bordellos or has friends connected with Mexican drug gangs.
This is a gun and knife fight - Chicago style - and no place for people consumed with a sense of fair play and taking the “high” road.
Mayne some PACS should start a few damaging rumors about the Communist in Chief.

When the MC at a McCain rally in ‘08 (Bill Cunningham) mentioned, Barack “Hussein” Obama, McCain had a fit. McCain was never willing to take on the Chicago mob and he did get his butt handed to him. I’m not suggesting what exactly Romney should do other than be willing to go toe to toe with Axelrod, Gibbs and the rest of the rats, as/if required. What Romney needs to do is completely ignore Harry Reid, and say he is doing so because he is focusing on the American people and how the current President is not helping them. He can also mention it’s interesting that President Obama hasn’t thought this was important enough of a matter to speak to and so Romney is going to focus on the important stuff because what Harry Reid thinks is of little consequence to him.

He made up the claim and since he repeated it on the Senate Floor he should be expelled from the Senate for attempting to influence the election with lies in the People’s Chamber.

What has to happen for Reid to be expelled from the Senate?
He has to be investigated, judged and expelled by his fellow senators.
That will never happen. Only the people of Nevada, or an act of nature or nature’s God, can get Reid out of the Senate.
Now this: what would happen if EVERY senator who tried to influence an election by lying on the Senate floor were expelled??
In theory, there would almost be nobody left.
But, a quorum of senators has to be present for business to even be conducted. Very quickly, so many would be expelled there wouldn’t be enough left to expel any more, if you want to be realistic about it.
Reid made a legal accusation and the House has every legal right to investigate the allegation.
More and more people are seeing past the veneer of Democratic politics, and how utterly slimy these people are behaving. It will only hurt them in the general election.
I doubt you know much about the IRS if you can make that statement with a straight face. The IRS doesn't have the human attention to detail to be able to deem a large percentage of returns "spotless." Their computers are best at identifying returns that likely have opportunities to recoup significant further revenue. Those are the ones they go after.
Your statement wouldn't be true for the average Joe, except that Mitt Romney surely has had that kind of unique screening of his tax information because he's a top Republican candidate on whom the Left has its sights. Lest Obozo troops get taken down on felony information disclosures that are logged as anyone accesses people's tax returns, those thugs need Mitt's voluntary disclosure so they can safely come out with portrayals they may have already identified as usable for their propaganda.
Let 'em all rot. Don't show any returns.
If anything comes out without Mitt's disclosure, check the records, bring out the lie detector tests and send people to jail, including Reid.
