A Mitt Romney loss wouldn’t necessarily be a disaster
The Daily Caller ^ | August 3, 2012 | Matt K. Lewis

Posted on 08/03/2012 1:26:47 PM PDT by Bratch

Don’t buy the doom and gloom pronouncements from conservatives telling you, “this is the most important election in history.” A loss for Mitt Romney would not necessarily spell long lasting disaster for Republicans, nor would it be the death-knell to conservatism. In fact, it’s possible a 2012 loss could lay the groundwork for a stronger Republican party and conservative movement.

Elections are almost always seen as urgent and morally imperative. But sometimes major victories can only come in the aftermath of what appear to be devastating defeats. John Kerry‘s loss in 2004 laid the groundwork for a Democratic takeover in 2006 and 2008, and Jimmy Carter‘s defeat of Gerald Ford in 1976 paved the way for the Ronald Reagan in 1980. In other words, it is a mistake to assume losing a presidential election is a permanent defeat.

“This should be the most important election since 1980, but so far it is not,” says Reagan biographer Craig Shirley. “Scottish historian Thomas Carlyle postulated the ‘great man’ theory of history, and indeed this was true with Washington, Jackson, Lincoln, TR, FDR and Reagan. But history has not summoned forth great men in 2012 and in fact our history today is small.”

This is not to say Republicans should concede the election, but conservatives should keep November in proper perspective.

“This writer must have been born and raised in Southern Arizona where he’s never seen anyone on a sled in his life. Because he doesn’t know a slippery slope when he sees one. Four more years will cement the takers over the givers to such an extent the givers will never be a factor again on the national scene”

Interesting! Because despite 4 years of Obama, the United States is even more conservative. You can thank the GOPe corruption, the open primaries, and the millions to buy campaign lies for Mittens win.

Since I am not familiar with Matt K. Lewis my first thought is; This is a planted story by the GOP-E to keep the rank and file Republicans from getting too cocky. Or maybe to help prepare them for defeat in November.

Romney 2 Terms vs Obama 1 Term vs Romney 1 Term Democrat 1 Term.

That's one ugly hand. I fold.

Here’s reality: If Obama wins, Obamacare stays.

Do you really expect Romney to get rid of national socialized medicine based on Romneycare?

Bull___t. Matt can’t see the forest for the trees. Take a look at how, each year, government expands. Take a look at how Obama took over a huge chunk of the private sector. Take a look at how each day we become more Socialist. Take a look at how, even when we had conservative Ronald Reagan in office, we could only halt government, not shrink it. If Obama can simply keep government on the same course, we become more Socialist year in and year out. The frog is in the pot and the heat is being turned up slowly. Matt doesn’t seem to see it.

My personal opinion is that it will be a disaster no matter which one wins.

It’s sort of a death by gun or death by knife thing.

It's been that way since 1912. People are just fooling themselves if they think America is still free.

We've got to win the senate. Both Romney or Obama spells disaster, unless we win the Senate and have impeachment power.

Romney can't be kept in check. Look at what he did as governor. Romney wrote the model for Obamacare. Romney put extreme liberals on the Mass court. Romney did more for gay marriage as Governor than Obama has done as president.

Good afternoon guy. I hope you are doing well.

Fear isn't going to make me vote against my principles.

I know where you stand regarding Romney. Of course you are correct. You know that I don't like the liberal either.

You should vote your conscience. I have much respect for your opinions.

I'm going to tell you something. I'm going to vote for the liberal. The reason is I'm giving myself a shot at getting to my wheel chair. If 0bama is elected, I say there is a 1 in 4 chance of CWII.

Sure, it's better it happens now, than when I can't hump ammo, but I figure I got (G-d willing) 20 more years max on this planet. Plus, I'd hate to have to kill fellow Americans. If I have to, I will be extremely efficient, and will do it with extreme prejudice. Problem will be target acquisition.

Honestly, there is no guarantee that if Romney is elected it won't happen anyway. Imho, the liberal choice will give me a better opportunity to live those 20 years than the marxist.

Yes, I'm being self centered.

Incoming!

“In fact, it’s possible a 2012 loss could lay the groundwork for a stronger Republican party and conservative movement.”

Four more years of Obama, and people will be ashamed of having written crap like this.

But, all that said, I’m beginning to believe that much of the anti Romney sentiment here has nothing to do with the fact that people think he will be a RINO failure. I think a lot of people are scared to death he might turn out to be a good president. ...He is going to win.

Seems there are any number of speculative scenarios out there in Journ-o-ville, but one thing is for certain, and that is Obama must go. He cannot be the President of this Nation for a second term, because it would be the disaster this author claims a Romney loss would necessarily not be.

Anybody that can eff up the works as Obama has simply cannot be allowed to hang around to eff things up worse than he already has. It’s commonsense.

If you think Obama and Romney are the same it’s not really worth discussing. It’s hyperbole.

Romney is a non-ideological centrist - who was not my first (or 2nd or 3rd) choice. But Obama is an enemy of this country. And will severely damage her in a 2nd term with “flexibility.”

“Forget it, just don’t post to me anymore and I wont post to you. But I think you are a plant..”

I probably will forget your user name after making this post, so I’ll probably respond to you in the future when you make Pro-Mitt Romney posts or argue for why surrendering to Mittens and the GOPe will lead to a blessed and wonderous future.

Bottom line, though, as I have said in other threads, is that this is a spiritual issue, not a political one. None of you guys who are demanding we give it up for Mittens are taking into account the existence of a God in heaven, who ultimately is in control of our nation’s fate. Both Mittens and Obama are shallow, self-righteous, utterly wicked individuals who wear lots of makeup and practice how to lie in front of mirrors. IOW, they are surface level creatures. I am convinced that they literally represent our spiritual conditions. We’ve all come to this point where we believe we can pull ourselves up by our bootstraps, even though the nation itself did not even win its own battles. It was God who won them. It was God who put things together. Our nation is a nation built on miracles. But, meanwhile, Republicans (not conservatives) lie and tell us that only THEY can save the nation, and that if we don’t do it, Evil Obama (they carefully ignore the ideology BEHIND Obama) will kill us all.
