Va. governor Bob McDonnell on Chick-Fil-A clash: 'I love chicken'

WASHINGTON - The governor of Virginia became the latest politician to offer his perspective on a controversy that could banish Chick-Fil-A from jurisdictions nationwide.

When asked about the backlash stemming from the fast food restaurant's public opposition to gay marriage, Gov. Bob McDonnell said, "I love chicken."

Following a pause, the governor continued: "If we start having governments issue permits or zoning changes, or withholding those because of someone's political or religious beliefs, we are going down a very bad road."

"I think people have an ability to start and grow a business regardless of their political beliefs," he said, while speaking on WTOP's "Ask the Governor" program.

“The governor of Virginia became the latest politician to offer his perspective on a controversy that could banish Chick-Fil-A from jurisdictions nationwide. “

By what Blue Fairy wand-waving does the writer figure this will happen?

Facebook was alive yesterday with photos of Virginia activists at CFA. I searched in vain for pics with Romney, George Allen, McDonnell, or my US House candidate. Very disappointing.

I knew not to hold my breath about Mittens weighing in. Not more than 5 minutes age, Michelle Bachman got a campaign contribution after I got an email with a link to her with her Chick-fil-a order yesterday. Since I don’t have a Chick-fil-a, I figured I’d cover her lunch.

The writer's name is Shrinkman. It's appropriate somehow.

He's gotta be on his third box of Depends(tm) after yesterday's turn out.

In case you haven't noticed, Romney has had a high-profile attack directed at him regarding his personal taxes over the last couple of days.

I don't think we need him to weigh in on every issue...especially the issues where the citizens are fighting the good fight just fine on their own.

I agree with your point that Romney fights a different battle while we handle this one. I would, however, between now and election day; love to see him visit a CFA when the timing and place are appropriate.

The Obama attack machine is rolling like Patton tanks, and the Romney campaign can seize on this opportunity. Just go to Chick-Fil-A (Romney campaign staff) and youtube it with bags and bags of Chick-Fil-A bags all over the office.
Oh btw...suggestion to Romney staff..every time I am on youtube all I see is Obama ads, where are the Romney ads ?
Millions visit that site

“If we start having governments issue permits or zoning changes, or withholding those because of someone’s political or religious beliefs, we are going down a very bad road.”

Bad road? No an illegal one. It would be patently illegal/unconstitutional to use the power of public office to denty a business a permit based on a politicians dislike of the business onwers persoanl political viewpoint.

personally I think Chick Fil-a should create a new menu item- the Soddom and Gemorrah baskets- a bunch of burnt to a crisp chicken parts- and hand them out to folks at the ‘kiss-in’

Agreed, with the exception of Islam. Denying a mosque site that will become a Jihadi training center and armory to a seventh century socio-political system masquerading as a religion is an act of self preservation.
