Imagine having a friend on Facebook who matches up your privately shared data to a public voting record -- then flags you for more frequent campaign calls and contacts.
That’s exactly what the Democratic party is doing. The upcoming presidential campaigns are eager to get their hands on the treasure trove of voter data that 900 million users have voluntarily posted on Facebook. Enter Social Organizing, a new tool developed by Democratic activist group NGP VAN. Using it, your friends can log in to Facebook and tell the service about you. You can then be added to a caller database, pinged for ads and harassed during the entire election.
Many users think the information they post to Facebook cannot legally or ethically leave the site’s confines, noted Roger Kay, a technology analyst with Endpoint Technologies. They may be in for a surprise.

Good choice. I did about 5 months ago and I am a right wing crazy on my wall. I am quite sure Im on a list somewhere, but I have 280 friends that I spread the message too!!! :) I have probably lost a good 10 friends but (shrug) who needs em.

I gave $100 to Michelle Bachman. Not only did I get plenty of calls for more money for her on my cell phone, but she apparently sold my name and every month my mailbox is STUFFED with campaign literature requesting money. I must say I’m not amused. They did finally take me off the call list. I was polite but firm with each caller that I wanted off the list. I’d say it took 10 calls but they finally stopped calling. The mailings, however, take several minutes to sift through and throw away.
BTW, my plan was to give $100 to each of the conservatives in my state. I am turned off and annoyed.

Hmmm....good luck with that dems. It would appear that news broke today that Facebook admitted that 83 million accounts were possibly fake. Not that having dead people,pets or fake voters has ever stopped you before.

This is why I keep a second email for times when a commercial site demands an email address to send you a receipt (and then markets your email address)

Have you considered the simple fact that there is no law that says you have to provide accurate information on your Facebook profile? As a matter of fact, many of us wouldn’t post correct birthdates, addresses or ANY personal information, yet have Facebook accounts where many of our friends and old acquaintances meet up.
