Americus Reed, a marketing professor at University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School who studies brand loyalty, says Cathy underestimated what might happen once his comments to a niche religious publication and a syndicated radio show spread to a wider audience.
"I think this is part of the wake-up call for companies to understand that social media makes these decisions very, very risky," Reed said, "because it's much easier now for these messages to get out to consumers and consumers to virtually organize."

They will never learn.
“It is, therefore, very very risky to speak the Truth,” cautions NPR. As always, the libs choose obfuscation and not standing for anything over living a righteous life.
Appeasement of social media - bad choice for a moral compass.
BTW, buy Chick-Fil-A today and make a statement against the liberal democrat gay mafia, I did.
I agree with this statement.
I suspect Cathy will be quite surprised by the large amount of sales this is going to generate from supporters.
Chick-Fil-A Supporters To Turn Out For Appreciation Day

The culture clash over Chick-Fil-A could come to a head on Wednesday, with supporters in Chicago and around the country turning out for an appreciation day first proposed by former Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee.
Nationwide as of Wednesday morning, about 582,000 people planned to go to a Chick-Fil-A location and order something for Chick-Fil-A Appreciation Day.
“I think this is part of the wake-up call for companies to understand that social media makes these decisions very, very risky,” Reed said, “because it’s much easier now for these messages to get out to consumers and consumers to virtually organize.”
Let’s wait for the sales numbers to come out before we put the cart before the horse, professor.
This clown doesn't get it. Cathy has principles and I'm sure is aware that it will cost him some sales, but placed his convictions before the profit altar. I normally don't eat at Chick-Fil-A, but I will now. It's not that I'm anti-gay, but rather that I feel a company should be able to have an opinion and people should be willing to accept or ignore their opinion. If you don't like their opinion, don't buy their product. However, for some hack politicians to make statements to ban private enterprise is, at best, a voter decision, not one for a mayor or any other politician to determine.
Stopped reading right there.
Me, too...
Liberal like to shut up the other side.
They should lose.
I’ll probably stop by Chick-Fil-A today since I have to eat out during my day.
Seems to me the biggest lesson is that there’s a lot of money to be made by pissing off the gay lobby.
The CFA near my house has been constantly crowded for over a week.

Yet another reason to de-fund NPR

for some hack politicians to make statements to ban private enterprise is, at best, a voter decision, not one for a mayor or any other politician to determine. It is a worst, Fascism. Especially so if this were done by referendum.
Rights cannot be created or destroyed by a vote.
My grand daughter and I are going go-carting and after, for lunch, it’s gong to be Chick-Fil-A, and I’ll be telling them the reason we supported them.
The more telling comparison is of "Chick-Fil-A" to "Amazon". Both involve the "gay marriage" issue, both happened at pretty much the same time. Almost a "controlled experiment" in economics. What these dorks fail to take into consideration is that "straights" outnumber "gays" by (at minimum) a 90/10 ratio (and more likely 99/1).
My prediction....Chick-Fil-A's sales will go up, Amazon's will go down.
I fully intend to drop both my Amazon membership (including "Prime"), and my Amazon VISA card. Only reason I haven't done so is that it has (and continues to be) a very busy week.
Damn right it makes it easier to organize. Why do you think Chick Fil A is going to do a helluva lot more business in the coming months?
intellectual fool.
Only the fags, their Rat bastard enablers and chickens are ruing Cathy’s statement.
“Marketing firm Witeck-Combs estimated the LGBT market’s buying power at $800 billion last year.”
With Gays and Lesbian only being 2% of the population, and thus there are 6,000,000 Gays and Lesbians in the USA, that means that each Gay and Lesbian spends $133,0000.00 per year.
The Sodomites are doing great in this economy.
Is Americus Reed the Wharton pedophile professor?
Oh, no. That’s Scott Ward. My mistake.
Our entire office will get dinner from Chick Fil A this eve.
And we’re going to start making it at least a bi-weekly tradition.
Obama and friends, shove it up your collective, smelly Obamas.
Oh, you can do the shoving at Target or Penny’s...none of us will care, since we no longer go there.
They’re going to be surprised when CFA’s revenues skyrocket for the next month.
“Wait a minute! Our opinion is the majority! No one I know supports Christian beliefs!”
Chick-fil-A Rocks!!! Just like Ted Cruz (Texas), a smashing success!!! “Yummy”, the wife and I will shortly be dining for lunch at our local CFA!!! CFA must be stunned by the massive increase in revenue, profit and business these low life, dirt bag, Obamabots, “traitor” Democrat liberals & left-wingers have created!!!
And....CFA, the heck with Chicago, Boston, Detroit, Baltimore, etc. These are loser cities. Hit Texas, Florida, that is where the real action is!!! We the people of these magnificent United States of America love you and support you, 100%.
And......you know what, CFA, thousands of Gay folks like, patronize and love you, too!!!
Moron misses the real lesson business is taking - do not do business in Chicago, NYC, etc because they are being run by people who care more about politics than free enterprise.
My wife wanted to pick up a diet lemonade and a chicken breakfast bagel this morning, but the line was out of the parking lot and into the Home Depot parking lot.
I don’t think that Chick-Fil-A is having any problems.
I have not been to a Chick fil a in YEARS,,,but we are going today...and will dine sumtuously.
Leftist fascists take note.
You are making a great decision, but it is frightening that every gay in the country can spend $365.000 a day on goods and services.
For some reason, their spending power is much greater than regular people.
If there was one in my area I would.
This is going to help Chick-Fil-A far more than it hurts them.. a small group makes a lot of noise, big whoop.
Chick-Fil-A has the best product and without question the BEST customer service in the quick service industry. They have not been accused of EVER discriminating against a customer, this is about a loud small group angry because someone didn’t buy into their group think, nothing more, and most americans agree with Chick-Fil-A at the end of the day.
Maybe because the $$’s are a made up number?
Thats what I would guess...pump up the number to make it look impressive...when you break it down to a rate like you have, its pretty well nigh unbelievable.
This Buddhist had me a nice Chick-Fil-A breakfast this morning in support of them!
What might happen? What might happen is that Chik-fil-a might have its largest sale day in its entire history TODAY!
Wouldn’t it be wonderful if they ran out of chicken all over the country? They’d better have a supply of raincheck coupons on hand, in case that happens.
“Nationwide as of Wednesday morning, about 582,000 people planned to go to a Chick-Fil-A location and order something for Chick-Fil-A Appreciation Day.”
I would bet it goes much higher.
There was an hour wait at the local CFA this morning.
I just went to the online Chick-fil-a store to check out there merchandise. At the bottom of the page is a “Like” button. Clicked on the like and got an ERROR message.
Hummmmm
translation: Van Jones and his band of merry thugs will get you, and your little dog too!
“If there was one in my area I would.”
The closest one to me is 40 miles away (near Travis AFB).
I’m gonna crank up the Harley today, and go anyway. And I’ve never been to a CFA before.
Worth it.
That company has been in financial trouble for a long time despite pandering to "traditional families" for its entire existence. They had to do something and they did. Layoffs were already expected before the flap as part of restructuring.
Chick-Fil-A will 'win' short term but it's anyone's guess if it'll be sustained. Any business needs a steady supply of new customers and if young people do not become patrons over this issue, he'll eventually go out of business.
Bought chicken biscuits for the employees this am..80 of them. The girl at the counter had a jaw drop on that one..and I was not the only person buying in bulk.
DINKs. Dual income, no kids.
I agree with you. I’ve never eaten there because I’m vegetarian (yes, I know, that’s like saying I’m an alien here) but I’ve eaten there 2x in the last 4 days.
Being a DINK would have no impact on this as the money spent on kids is money that counts as money being spent.
They gay dollars have the same value as regular dollars.
Sounds like class warfare rhetoric to me but, setting that aside, I don't know gays with that kind of buying power ($130K per year on goods/services) and tax data tells me there's very, very few Americans in that category period.
These days the homosexuals I know are just getting by, several looking for work, like anyone else.
It's about choices. If "regular people" choose to have more kids or one chooses not to work or be underemployed for flexibility in the home, they'll have less money for other things. If they have fewer kids, the opposite is true. If they delay having children into your late 20s, early 30s, you may be better off financially and they as well.
One irony I see is if they were encouraged to pair off and adopt or have children through surrogacy their "buying power" would drop in line with heterosexual couples who make those choices.
Lastly, you won't find many homosexuals as teen parents either.
James Okeefe exposed NPR when he did and interview posing as Muslims willing to spend $5mil to get out a favorable view of the Muslim Brotherhood.
