They had to make a connection on Mom's side, since Dad was a foreigner. They feared what they might find digging on that side of the family. Even if this is true, I am not sure “I have black slave blood from my Mom's white family” is going to play in the ‘hood.

For Bryan Sykes' new book, DNA USA, he collected genetic samples from many Americans of different racial backgrounds. Some of the people who thought they had 100% European ancestry turned out to have a small amount of African DNA. But it doesn't necessarily mean descent from someone who was a slave in America--it could be from an ancestor taken to Europe many centuries ago (there were black slaves in the Roman Empire and some of them ended up in Roman Britain and there black slaves brought to Europe in later periods as well).

The Quander family are descendants of the first KNOWN slave in Virginia (and that was when Virginia extended all the way to the Connecticut/Massachusetts state line (at that time still Acadian/Virginia line) down to what is now the North Carolina (then still Carolana) line.

They are well known around the Northern Virginia area ~ and they have plenty of white, and black, and Indian, and every other thing ancestry JUST EXACTLY LIKE ALL the other old American families. In later times they got sorted out by black, white, etc.

Your more recent Fresh Off the Boat types don't have much of the old Creole in their backgrounds which is why so many of them end up voting for the Democrats.

They're most all recent arrivals ~ as these things are counted! Frankly I don't really know why we let them vote.

Ancestry.com isn't accurate, both sides of my family extended back before we were a country. My mother's family has maintained ties and know exactly how everyone is related to the others. My father and uncle hired a professional to trace back and make corrections.

I have gotten emails from people claiming to be a part of our families, because Ancestry.com claims to have a link.

No one real famous, but there is some notable people and I guess the claimant's are looking be associated.

If Obama was unsure if Barack Sr. was his real father, it wouldn't be that hard to find out--he could contact that half-brother of his in Kenya, George Obama. If both are sons of Barack Sr., their Y chromosomes will match.

Back during the Clinton impeachment there were rumors that he was the father of a boy born to a black hooker in Little Rock. Clinton was apparently very careful not to let anyone get any of his precious bodily fluids to be able to run a paternity check (I recall when he visited a restaurant in England the Secret Service confiscated the glass he had drunk from). Monica was another matter but she wasn't likely to cooperate with anyone investigating Clinton. The Starr investigators supposedly found that Clinton was not the father of the black kid.
