White House Differs with Romney on Jerusalem as Capital of Israel

Via CNSNews.com:

In what marks a decisive difference in the presidential campaign, one day after Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney called Jerusalem the capital of Israel, the White House asserted that Romney’s position was different from that of the Obama administration.

“Our view is that that is a different position than this administration holds. It’s the view of this administration that the capital should be determined in final status negotiations between parties,” White House spokesman Josh Earnest told reporters Monday.

“I would remind you that that is the position that has been held by previous administrations both Democratic and Republican. So, if Mr. Romney disagrees with that position, he is also disagreeing with positions taken by previous presidents like Bill Clinton and Ronald Reagan,” Earnest added.

On Thursday, White House Press Secretary Jay Carney struggled during the afternoon press briefing to answer what the capital of Israel was, insisting reporters already knew the administration’s policy and that the policy was not changed. Hours later he issued a written answer, stating it will be negotiated between Israel and Palestine.

Romney’s position was different from that of the Obama administration.

And I hope to God that can be said about almost any issue.

That’s funny. Carney was trying to hand-wave his way out of this last week, and Romney forced them to answer.

Barack Obama in 2008:

...any agreement with the Palestinian people must preserve Israel’s identity as a Jewish state, with secure, recognized and defensible borders. Jerusalem will remain the capital of Israel, and it must remain undivided...

Sounds like Obama is “wimping” out to me. Go Mitt.

Good for Romney. He flushed out the Obama Admin.

Hope he can now flush them down the toilet forever!

” stating it will be negotiated between Israel and Palestine.”

What a stoopid position! There will be no meaningful negotiations with the “palestinians.” Ever!

Obama forced to declare they are on the wrong side of the Jewish vote. This is great.

Well, MY view is that your mommy should have named you Josh Waffle, not Josh Earnest.

As is the case more than 80% of the time, those occupying the White House are wrong.

Which “parties” would those be, Josh?

The voting citizens of Israel have reached a dermination.
Just what are you proposing?

This gives the "news" media more ammunition to pester the Zero administration about what they consider to be the current Israeli Capital. Well, it would if we had a real news media.

Will those who aren't on FR even hear about it? Can't think of a way for the MSM to spin it sufficiently in O's favor to even report it!

Here in the U.S., the federal head of state and government, the federal legislature, and the federal head of supreme court are domiciled in Washington, D.C. We consider Washington the national capital.

In Israel, the head of state, the head of government, the legislature and the supreme court are domiciled in Jerusalem. We consider Jerusalem...if not the capital, then what?
