Allen West: If we could forget Munich Olympics, we could forget 9-11
BizPac Review ^ | Michele Kirk

US Congressman Allen West offered a heartfelt response to recent news that the International Olympics Committee refused to schedule a moment of silence for the eleven Israeli athletes and coaches, as well as one West German police officer who were killed at the Munich Olympics 40 years ago.

West recalled watching the Munich Olympics at age eleven, feeling baffled by the horror that interrupted the usual competitive spirit of the prestigious games.

He said that he worries if we start to shirk the responsibilities we have to honor the dead on occasions such as this, what will happen 40 years from now, when someone refuses to honor the victims of 9-11. West in his own words, in response to a question asked during his July Townhall event in Pompano

Political correctness has no place in the Olympics, or anywhere else for that matter.

“Those who are not students of history etc..

He has obviously been studying and learning. Carry on, Sir.

My regret is that I cannot vote for him in a state election since I no longer live in Florida.

Many have already forgotten 9/11. I was just at the memorial, and the atmosphere, by the visitors there, was nothing different from any other tourist spot. I could not believe it.

I’m positive that within my lifetime, 9-11 will be forgotten.

In fact, for most folks, sadly, it already has.

He is damn right.

I can’t believe there is handwringing over an international moment of silence that murder was brought to this international athletic competition. The most wide angle vision of this tragedy is that SOME OF US were killed. Innocents were killed. If this is “offensive” to Muslim countries to have a moment of silence over it 40 Years Later,

Then damn straight it will offend Muslims if we ever commemorate our victims of 9-11.

It’s like inviting the Colorado theater killer to dinner and trying to have a polite conversation with him.

It’s like being offended and walking out of a dinner party abroad because someone brought up the Colorado killer, who is American like you are.

Right, and we’re just reading that Lebanese athletes refuse to practice next to Israelis. So the stupid brits build them a special wall. Send the pigs home if they can’t live to the olympic standards. You can’t tolerate terrorists or their descendants.

That's exactly what these guys said:

The Olympics have become so thoroughly perverted by media exposure and money over the years that they aren't even worth watching.

FDNY, NYPD hats, shirts and other things at a different location. Not on the grounds, though. They also have some artifacts from that day displayed. The museum is not open yet, so I imagine that store will move there once it is open. I did purchase a baseball and refrigerator magnet, because those are what I collect from my travels.

That being the case, let’s pray that you’ll someday be able to vote for him in a national election — for president.

True. Wonder why no one has advocated a moment to commemorate the Nazi bombing of London.

My wife and I visited Ground Zero the Memorial Day after 9/11. People were properly respectful at the site, walking somberly up the ramp nearest the devastation. I confess that I bought a “Ground Zero” cap.
