Romney Renews His Support For Gun Control, 23 July: "That's the kind of legislation I like"
27 Jul 12 | Xzins

Posted on 07/27/2012 6:19:33 AM PDT by xzins

Is it possible that Mitt is an inexperienced and undisciplined candidate, or should we begin viewing his comments as trial balloons?

The latest possible trial balloon came this past Monday in an interview with Larry Kudlow. In that discussion, Romney relates the situation in Aurora, Colorado to his time in Massachusetts when he was able to ban weapons such as the AR15, one of America's favorite sporting rifles.

Romney...the law that we signed in Massachusetts was a combination of efforts both on the part of those that were for additional gun rights and those that opposed gun rights,...Where there are opportunities for people of reasonable minds to come together and find common ground, that’s the kind of legislation I like. (http://www.nbcuniversal.presscentre.com/content/detail.aspx?ReleaseID=11599&NewsAreaId=2)

Romney has given us other trial balloons in recent months.

First, he consistently affirms RomneyCare, the massive government intrusion into healthcare that was the blueprint for Obama's massive government intrusion into healthcare. Sadly, Romney's health care plan included many items absolutely unacceptable to social conservatives. His continuing support for his program has many conservatives legitimately wondering if he intends merely to "fix" ObamaCare. Perhaps he thinks it would be better if just a little more in his own image.

Next, and only this past April, was Mitt Romney's support for gay couples. Compounding that problem was his assertion that gay couples should be allowed to adopt children. There are compounding problems with that, too. Mitt Romney has long had a special relationship with the gay-agenda wing of both parties. He has in the past given those advocates special assurances that he is the man they want in office. Just this past week, when Obama permitted military uniforms to be worn in a gay pride parade, there was no protest from Mitt Romney that this author can find. (Since pro-life chaplains can't march in pro-life parades in uniform, one wonders at the double standard.) To cap this off, during the debates, Romney indicated he was just fine with permitting open homosexuality in our military.

Now we have the governor who instituted strict gun control on "offensive weapons" reaffirming that decision. But that is not the critical part of the message.

Mitt Romney actually said on Monday -- this past Monday -- that when he can get legislators to agree on gun control, then "that's the kind of legislation I like."!

I can't help but dissect "that's the kind of legislation I like." What does that mean? Does it mean he's all in favor of signing gun control legislation if he can get legislators to originate it? That way, of course, he wouldn't be the only one taking the heat.

Does that mean that he doesn't really have a core value opposing gun control, that he'll sign on if he's not the only one with his neck on the line?

Trial Balloon or undisciplined comment?

You be the judge. But, you also better be careful, and make sure Romney never has a large enough group of RINOs to team with democrats to bring him gun control legislation.

After all, "That's the kind of legislation I like."

Wow. I thought he was already gone

Yep, it wasn't a matter of if, but when.

“of not being able to produce a shred of evidence whereby Mitt has ever attacked our Constitution”

How convenient of you to ignore Mitt’s permanent Massachussets gun ban -AGAINST THS CONSTITUTION-, his push for homosexual marriage in Massachussetts, his appointing of multiple extreme leftwing judges, raising taxes, Romneycare, etc etc etc.

THX that is a cornerstone scenario and should be required memorization for each and every elementary school student anad should be on every exit exam for promotion to the next grade, all the way through last grade of high school.

THEN it should be the foundation of a one semester, MANDATORY civics course at EACH AND EVERY post secondary school covering the REAL “Roots” story (ie how the USA was created).

People have been flagging him and complaining about him for a few weeks AFAIK, and he must have gotten on Admin’s last nerve today.

The ABOs, the legimate conservative ones — I bear them no ill will — should be on the phone, burning up servers, wearing out word processors, doing everything they can to send the Romney Campaign a huge thumbs down on this.

They’re afraid that pointing out Mitt’s problems will cause him to lose, so they don’t want to rock the boat. I believe the opposite is true, because Obama’s team knows when Mitt has made a mistake. They will hit him just as hard over those mistakes but through their super-Pacs who will use this stuff to make him seem like a flip-flopper.

They should be nailing Romney’s hide to the wall and holding his feet to the fire. They should be loud and vocal with their displeasure. Otherwise, ABOs are permitting Romney to move to the left.

In my view, we lost it the day Sarah decided not to run. I’m voting third party
***Why not vote Republican? I’ll be writing in Sarah. Any conservative republican would do for that slot. Conservative republican, up & down the ticket.

Does anyone really expect him to nominate conservative judges to the SCOTUS?

Unfortunately, we are stuck with this moron. The only alternative is four more years of the Marxist Muslim which is infinitely WORSE.

Really? I live in Wisconsin. Obama would not even set foot in my state to campaign against Governor Scott Walker during the recall. Obama is effectively neutered here. He's really not that scary when you realize what a puppet he is. Even without an edge in the Senate and only a small edge in the House, he is nearly gridlocked today. (Were it not for Romney-like "conservative" compromiser of a Supreme Court judge, he *would be* gridlocked.) After the 2012 Congressional elections are complete, he *will be* totally gridlocked. We need fever Romney's on our team, not more of them. Obama's only tool remaining is Executive Order and he is using it to the point of abuse. So much so that impeachment papers are already circulating Congress and gaining steam. Like Clinton in '92, I'd be amazed if Obama is not served impeachment papers within two years of his second term. And unlike Clinton, Obama has far fewer friends and far more egregious oversteps. The alternative I see is complete gridlock holding Obama (or Biden if Obama is impeached) in-check while we continue to make gains in Congress. I prefer that over allowing Romney to redefine conservatism in his liberal image, damage the republican brand for elections to come, compromise our way to socialism over a four or eight year term, and then hand the Executive Office back to an Obama-type for four or eight more years after that. I can't wait twelve to sixteen years for the chance of a do-over and a genuine conservative to set this nation back on course. I prefer to do it now with someone like Virgil Goode as POTUS. But if that is not possible, I can hope for a do-over in four years by *NOT* having Romney installed.

The GOP-E would stand up to any gun control effort by Obama. Would they do the same against Romney? That is the unknown danger Romney represents.

Obama will get most of the democrats and NONE of the Republicans. Romney will get ALL of the democrats and JUST ENOUGH Republicans. That will be the way Romney institutes his progressive agenda on all the issues.

Romney is the perfect candidate to take on the Conservatives in the house and senate and squelch the conservative cause on such topics as the homosexual agenda, abortion, socialized medicine and gun control.

With Scotus appointments he’ll look for those who will get him the highest possible approval numbers. IOW, moderates praised by as many media outlets as possible.

That is why I expect the behind-the-scenes power brokers to be in Romney's corner.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if he wins.

Their biggest concern is figuring out how to deal with it when Obama plays the race card. My guess is that they'll just buy him off.

Your points are valid. Do you, or anyone else on this thread, have any contact information for Romney and/or his campaign?

I’m probably voting for this bastard because I hate the OTHER bastard in there right now so much. But EVERYBODY, REGARDLESS of whether or not you are voting for Romney, should contact this jerk’s office and tell him what you think of his ridiculous statements on the Second Amendment.

America is neither Massachusetts NOR New Jersey (Thank God!!!)
