Four Little Words (Why the Obama campaign is suddenly so worried)
WSJ ^

Posted on 07/27/2012 5:17:32 AM PDT by TigerClaws

What's the difference between a calm and cool Barack Obama, and a rattled and worried Barack Obama? Four words, it turns out.

"You didn't build that" is swelling to such heights that it has the president somewhere unprecedented: on defense. Mr. Obama has felt compelled—for the first time in this campaign—to cut an ad in which he directly responds to the criticisms of his now-infamous speech, complaining his opponents took his words "out of context."

In context, the meaning is... the same.

You successful small business owners owe it to the rest of the country to comply with the rapacious tax rates that I want to impose on you.

There’s a kernel of truth in there.

I can’t build the Hoover Dam or the Golden Gate Bridge or the Marshall Plan or the moon landing.

We all know that - that’s what government is for.

But to say it in such an angry, scolding manner.... To emphasize the negative instead of, or before the positive... just shows the contempt he has for us.

He could have said something like:

“We are still one nation. One person didn’t build the Hoover Dam, it was a nation. One person didn’t build the Golden Gate Bridge, it was a nation. One person didn’t go to the moon, it was a nation. And we are still a nation that comes together and does things for everybody in the nation, and does things for the whole world. and I want to remind each and every one of you that you are not alone, you are an American.”

-— That says pretty much the same thing, but appeals to my sense of optimism. I haven’t been scolded.

(Coming from O’bama, I wouldn’t actually believe it, because of his history, but still..)

Why does he hate me so much?

Turns out this “smart” man isn’t as smart as he thinks he is. His chickens are coming home to roost! I’m sure Rev. Wright is very proud (or very disappointed in his disciple).

And, doing a scientific thought experiment with a controls and variables...

the roads, bridges, schools, and infrastructure were available to everyone,

but only a few build successful small businesses.

So the roads, bridges, schools and infrastructure must not be the determining factor.

Cool. The Romney campaign can now produce an ad where they show Obama complaining he was taken out of context, and show the full context. Which will be EVEN MORE damaging.

Agreed. Totally nailed it here - emphasis mine.

“”...the far more potent issue of national identity and...that Mr. Obama is actively hostile to American ideals and aspirations....

The Republican National Committee’s response... was to run an ad that shows a full minute of Mr. Obama’s rant at the Roanoke, Va., campaign event on July 13. In addition to “you didn’t build that,” the president also put down those who think they are “smarter” or “work harder” than others. WITNESS THE FIRST PRESIDENT TO DEMEAN THE BEDROCK AMERICAN BELIEFS IN INDUSTRIOUSNESS AND EXCEPTIONALISM. The “context” only makes it worse.””

Great, great piece. Thank you for sharing it.

May God guide our course.

Context?

We've had four years of crypto-Marxist, America-bashing context.

We know exactly what the little Cloward-Piven, Alinskyite fairy said.

Maybe

“You didn’t build that” = “Read my lips, no new taxes”

in the world of politics.

Sometimes, it doesn’t take much to turn an election. May “You didn’t build that” turn out to be be Obama’s albatross.

Obama has been a political genius, considering where he is, and where he started (i.e., a Chicago thug with no experience).

I’m just amazed that neither he nor his handlers could have missed out on the firestorm those words would set off. It has got to be one of the biggest political gifts I’ve ever seen - even worse than McCain saying, in 2008, that Obama would make a great president.

Obama’s masters were probably screaming at him “READ THE TELEPROMPTER- IT HAS EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO SAY, JUST READ IT”

They were also paid for by everyone. If there were no roads in the vicinity of a business and it was decided one was needed, those very businesses were charged an access fee. If paid for by property taxes, the more valuable homes or larger properties paid more. Commercial properties paid more. If the funds were local, sales taxes were collected and those who bought more, paid more. If State funds were used, some came from income taxes and people with higher incomes paid more. Ditto for Federal funds.

I suppose that some municipalities granted tax relief to new businesses for building in their area. This is quid pro quo for more jobs and eventual higher taxes.

But, of course, it has nothing to do with roads and bridges. They simply want more from those already paying more. Yet, connected statists seem to get away w/not paying taxes owed and their accumulated wealth is ignored. If only the progs could figure out a way to only confiscate accumulated wealth from conservatives while not confiscating the same from their supporters while shielding the entire process from scrutiny.

I am sure they are working on it.

The broader context is his view of America. He does, after all, want to transform the nation, right? The context is not just this one single group of 4 words, but his belief that America is unfair, American capitalism is evil, American businessmen are the ones to blame for the social injustice, and that Government-based solutions (restrictions, regulations, taxes) to economic issues are the change we need.

I like what one caller to Rush’s show pointed out yesterday. He noted that as Obama attempts to walk back his “you didn’t build this” comment, he has to continually extol the virtues of America’s capitalist system. Well, if it is so wonderful, then why does it need fixing? Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, Mr. President?

His handlers obviously made a mistake when they took the teleprompter away from their post turtle.

His apologists in the Leftist media tried that old tattered “out of context” excuse, but when the entire passage is video-taped, it is obvious that this Marxist meant exactly what he said. The mask slipped and now they are trying to re-veil him.

"Liberals in general and Obama in particular pander to their audience of the moment."
not saying, "Your wrong"... but, unfortunately; many Establishment types do.
interesting enough, a certain candidate (Newt ;) usually gave far more detailed
information..(sometimes a rant :)..on many issues of the campaign despite his
many drawbacks..He usually gave more, than he got..like scared Yorkshire terrier.

I like Mark Levin’s take on the road and bridges line.

Gee I wonder how many mom and pop stores were built by the roads and bridges running through Cuba or North Korea ?

That is the perfect comeback, and I don’t see our media guys using it.

I’m also amazed that the postturtle’s gaffe on Harry Truman’s famous words hasn’t reverberated. Talking with Charley Rose, Obama, trying to quote Truman, said “The Buck Stops With YOU.”

It sure does doesn’t it in his transforming of America?
