My Rifle Pony and Me
(Rick Nelson/Dean Martin)
Sun is sinking in the west
The cattle go down to the stream
The redwing settles in the nest
It's time for a cowboy to dream
Purple light in the canyon
that is where I long to be
With my three good companions
just my rifle pony and me
Gonna hang my sombrero
on the limb of a tree
Coming home sweet my darling
just my rifle pony and me
Whippoorwill in the willow
sings a sweet melody
Riding to Amarillo
just my rifle pony and me
No more cows to be ropin'
No more strays will I see
'round the bend she'll be waitin'
For my rifle pony and me
For my rifle my pony and me
Johnny Mandel's classic song from "M*A*S*H", the movie that put Robert Altman on the map.
Beautiful but depressing.
“My Own True Love” which I think is titled “Tara Theme” but not certain, in “Gone With The Wind”.

Originally from the 1926 musical, Oh, Kay! Composed by George Gershwin with lyrics by Ira Gershwin.
“The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance”, was also a great movie. John Wayne actually does some real acting in it. In most movies he just plays himself which isn’t bad either.

“Thunder Road” The movie was written, directed, and starred Robert Mitchum. He also wrote the theme song but another singer sang it in the movie.
Oddly enough Mitchum sang the song on a record which became popular on the regular radio disk jockey play. Mitchum actually did a better job than the professional singer who did it for the movie.

From the 1970 film by Mel Brooks titled "The Twelve Chairs". The melody is by Brahms. For those who don't know who Fanny Hurst was, she was the Jackie Collins and Danielle Steele of the 1930's.
