Obama forgot that the British took away the Patriots guns....many being the same that the British Army owned

AND THAT'S WHY WE HAVE THE RIGHT TO BEAR Arms.

The English colonies were planted in a part of North America designated by Spain's KIng Philippe II/III as a sort of refuge for European Protestants.

They, and he, already knew that your rights ~ all of them ~ rested on your right to keep and bear arms.

This place started out with rights to possess weapons, even the largest firearms.

If somebody doesn't like it he or she should go somewhere else!

Our Founding Fathers had just fought and beat the most powerful military in the world and the threat of another war was very real. 1812 anyone?

I'll go out on a limb here but It's reasonable to assume that they wanted the Militia armed with the finest weapons available.

The right to bear was officially recognized in England 500 years before that and was part of common law amongst many Europeans several hundred to a thousand years before that.

A right ever repressed by tyrants but always held by common man.

Actually, the patriots had muzzle loading rifles which were superior to the smooth bore muskets the British Regulars employed. In that context the common man had weaponry superior to that of the government.

And I see nothing wrong with that.
