President Obama has added his voice to the push for limits on Americans' gun use in the wake the massacre last week at a movie theater in Colorado.
Obama, speaking Wednesday evening to the National Urban League, affirmed his belief in Americans' right to own guns, but he singled out assault rifles as better suited for soldiers than civilians.
"I believe the Second Amendment guarantees an individual the right to bear arms," Obama said. "But I also believe that a lot of gun owners would agree that AK-47s belong in the hands of soldiers, not on the streets of our cities."

Yes, the AR-15 is just a civilian designation for our M-16 series of rifles (probably very similiar to the M16A2). The only main diffence is that the civilian version will only fire in semi-auto mode.
Therefore, the AR-15 is a military grade weapon and specifically protected by the 2nd Ammendment under the term “Arms” as it was intended.
The founders were very suspicious of standing “regulars” and prefered an armed citizenry that could be called upon for militia duty. Even though, for the most part, we have lost our distrust in “regulars”, the 2nd Ammendment still stands and cannot just be conveinently ignored by revisionists. IF they want to take away “assault rifles” from civilians, then it would, IMO, require the repeal of the 2nd. That is not going to happen. Should that day come it were repealed, that would be the total end of America.

I understand the differences. My question is whether the limitation of only firing semi-auto would disqualify it from consideration as an acceptable assault rifle for military use in actual practice. Does any army in the world send their soldiers out into the field armed with these rifles as their main battle weapon?

4) Abortion and contraceptives free naturally
5) Tax cuts up until his re-election, then tax increases
6) tax credits without paying taxes

Yes, some countries did, and they actually lasted into the 1990s in some countries.
Many countries that issued 7.62 NATO battle rifles (the FAL, L1A1 etc.) issued them in semiauto-only mode, both to fit with their existing fire discipline tactics, and because a 7.62 NATO rifle in “burp” mode proved to be less than desirable. Granted, there were often unofficial tricks among the troops to put them in “go-fast mode”, but they were still issued and deployed as semiauto rifles.

Larger caliber rifles resulted in lower capacity mags, making full-auto use impractical. The larger caliber round was designed to kill, and semi-auto encouraged making every shot count.

Bush's love of an Assault Weapons Ban, Amnesty and BIG government spending were some of the reasons that I turned my back on Bush and consider him to be a progressive. He also was responsible for sweeping the dims into power in 2006 and then obama in 2008. After working for him during both elections and donating to him in the maximum allowable amounts... I no longer will support progressives of any party.

I hope you are right. My faith in the sanity of my fellow man, and this world is slipping fast. Virtually everyone I know goes to the doctor at least every other week, and is on mood altering drugs and/or Ambian.
My wife and three kids are weird outliers in that non of us has seen a doctor since around 2005. The 2005 issue was for stitches but I think I I will stock up on super glue so we don’t get profiled and reported to the gubment for something.
My point being that voters are NOT sane. They are nuts on drugs, either prescribed or bought in an alley.

Get some “butterfly closures” which are like super tape that closes small gashes. Normal super glue isn’t the best for bandaging purposes as it gives off toxic methyl chemicals (formaldehyde) as it cures. A safer ethacrylic medical grade version can be had at, of all places, Dollar Tree, in little single use tubes, two for a buck.
