'Dark Knight Rises' star Christian Bale visits victims of Aurora theater massacre

Christian Bale, star of "The Dark Knight" trilogy, visited victims of the movie theater massacre in Aurora, Colo. on Tuesday, Warner Bros. confirmed to the Denver Post.

Bale went to Aurora to offer his condolences as an individual rather than as a spokesperson for the production company.

"Mr. Bale is there as himself, not representing Warner Brothers," said an assistant to Susan Fleishman, the executive vice president for corporate communications at Warner Bros.

Following the tragedy at a midnight showing of “The Dark Knight Rises” in Aurora, internet campaigns emerged asking Bale to visit the town. A young woman named Emily Sanchez posted a request to one such Facebook campaign that went viral, reports the Chicago Sun-Times.

"I propose we should make enough noise asking Christian Bale to visit these kids in the hospital dressed in the real Batman outfit. They need to know Heroes can be real too, not just the bad guys," Sanchez wrote.

"Words cannot express the horror that I feel," Bale said in a statement released on Saturday, "I cannot begin to truly understand the pain and grief of the victims and their loved ones, but my heart goes out to them."

Bale arrived in an ambulance around 2 p.m., reports Fox 31 Denver.

Do you think WB distanced themselves from the visit because they don’t want to be sued? Rush made a brilliant argument Monday that far more influential than guns in these sorts. Of crimes are violent films.

Hollywood is far more responsible than guns. I blame only the killer but still it would be nice to see Hollywood on the other end of these blame accusations.

It may be cynical to admit, but the first thought of every large corporation in an event like this is to CYA and limit damage. But it may also be that this was Christian Bale's idea and they didn't want to appear to step out and take any credit for it either. The first I heard from anyone associated with the film saying anything about the incident was from Bale on Saturday. I take his actions as completely sincere.

Sued for what? The killer didn’t see the film and besides there’s no basis for such liability.

The Brothers Warner are already being sued by one of the surviving attendees of the spectacle, I read somewhere today.

“Bale is a class act for this. Many kudos. The fact he did this on his own without any PR shows his motives were truly genuine and pure.”

Class act indeed. He enjoys my respect as scant few actors ever will!

His actions make me pleased and I have always enjoyed his work. It is especially nice to have a movie star in the news doing good.

Agreed, and I agree with you about the studio.

It’s getting bad in our society, a person can’t even do a good, kindly thing without having their motivations questioned.

Let’s face it, he and the movie studio and the director, etc. are victims of a lesser sort too. Their movie will be forever associated with the heinous crime. Some people may find that titillating, but I’m pretty sure those actually involved with the movie find it repugnant.

Agreed. I definitely believe that Bale was struck by this horror and wanted to immediately help any way he could, but I found it I treating that WB piped up verbally in an official “not affiliated” statement. I think they were performing a CYA.

Anyone can sue for anything. Maybe the previous films in this trilogy influenced this killer.

Thank you for this thread. I knew Christian would personally
come to Aurora to console everyone. I’ve never seen the
Batman films but I loved him in Little Women...(yikes, 1994).

Good for Bale this was a class thing to do. If his real life character matches that of his film persona Batman then all the better.
