Bloomberg Suggests Police Stop Protecting People Until Gun Control Enacted
NewsBusters ^

Appearing as a guest on Monday's Piers Morgan Tonight, New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg recommended that America's police officers should go on strike and refuse to protect people until gun control legislation which would allegedly make them safer is enacted. Bloomberg:

(Video can be found here.)

Well, I would take it one step further. I don't understand why the police officers across this country don't stand up collectively and say we're gonna go on strike, we're not gonna protect you unless you, the public, through your legislature, do what's required to keep us safe.

Just one more reason I’m counting the days until I move to Texas. Wish it could be today!

“Last time I called the cops, it took them 40 minutes to show up.”

Gotcha beat. 54 minutes police response time in what I felt might be a life and death situation. Fortunately I had my .45-70 loaded and ready to rock and roll if the situation “bloomed’ into a real battle.

Which pleased me no end.

Your points are spot on. In fact most police officers will say the same. That being, it’s not their responsibility to prevent crime. It’s their responsibility to apprehend criminals.

It is up to each individual to protect themselves and their families.

Correct. The cops can not be everywhere all the time. If a bad guy wants to harm me or my family I would much prefer my 9mm parabellum to be in my hand as opposed to a cell phone. When in immediate danger, it is up to the individual to prepare and protect himself and his loved ones.

One of my neighbors heard someone trying to force her window. She called the cops for a break-in in progress. They arrived in 30 minutes. Happily, the guy was scared off at the lights coming on, although there were marks where he tried to force the window.

But if he hadn’t been scared off...30 minutes. Older woman, limited mobility, alone with a criminal in her house. 54 minutes would be more than enough for her to be tortured to death.

I told her that if it happens again, call me. I’ll be there in 3-5 minutes. But her best bet would be to buy & learn to use a gun herself. A gun on the nightstand is seconds away.

I don’t understand the whole ‘the cops will protect you’ mentality. Cops aren’t there to protect you. They exist to catch the bad guy AFTER the crime. There were plenty of cops near the theater in Aurora. How well did THAT work out for the moviegoers?

Of course, it works fine for the mayor. He has a police escort...

Police officers are the only/final thing keeping this country from a quick descent into chaos and civil war.

Inner cities would explode, Occupiers would run rampant, and 2nd Amendment exercisers would mop up.

Go ahead Mike, put the NYPD on a 30-day furlough.

What is it with those who should know better that they would want us unarmed? Do they want to see us go into the same showers as their fellow believers did?

When I look at the names of those who would disarm us, those who support Marxism over our founders, those who write books about how to lie in every aspect of public debate, those who use all the lying tactics to brainwash us via the media.... etc, I am very concerned that a group we usually hold in high esteem, is actually our enemy. Some times the most dangerous enemy does not carry a weapon other than deception.

Just the sort of thing you'd expect a little Hitler like Bloomberg to say.

I'm not in your 'hood, Bloomie, but if I did, it would be go ahead -- I'm calling your bluff. I don't rely on your guys anyway; never have, never will. Won't bother me a bit.

Same goes for my local Sheriff, or anyone else who would even suggest such a self-serving stunt.

There seems to be a real disconnect between reality and many of the denizens of our blue areas. The cops are not near you and it takes time for them to respond and you will not be given that time by a perp. Just why people don’t understand this is beyond me. They are not going to protect you because they can’t if they are not on site. It’s nothing more than physics.

Fortunately the realization that the cops are only of minimal help seems to be sinking in but there are too many people who still do not understand it. It is a puzzlement.

...police officers, who stand in the front lines against violent criminals...
I'm so out of touch with reality.

I thought that everyday people were on the front line and
the police were second string and mostly came in for clean up after the fact.
