According to the homeowner he pleaded with Prue to leave his home and the suspect then initiated a physical altercation against the city resident, who then shot Prue in the chest.
Nielsen said Prue is in police custody at the New Haven hospital. He said Prue has not been formally charged while he undergoes medical treatment, but faces a whole host of charges.
The department’s investigation revealed a 2000 Volvo grey car registered to Prue was parked a short distance away from the victim’s home with the trunk lid opened. Inside the vehicle, police found crack cocaine and paraphernalia used to ingest it, police said. The vehicle was seized as evidence.

Under Connecticut law, one must retreat, if possible, before using reasonable force while in their own residence. At this time, police believe that there is no evidence to charge Mirto with any crime. The evidence is being forwarded to the state attorney’s office, which will conduct its own investigation and determine if Mirto acted with a legally-acceptable amount of force.
My note: A homeowner in my former Connecticut town shot himself in the foot while cleaning a gun in his own house and was charged with discharging a weapon within 500 feet of a residence. I don't know what happened with the case but it made the local newspaper.
Note to self: clear my weapon before cleaning it, and, oh yeah, stay away from Connecticut :-)
Interesting - the Register changed the article since I posted it, with a new author and additional details provided by a police presser.
It seems the older the state, the more degenerate it is.
They claim they're more 'civilized', but true civilization does not tolerate criminals or presume to infringe upon that most basic of human rights: self defense.
When Bernie Sanders can get re-elected so many times that should tell you all you need to know about the great state of Conneticutt.
At least the homeowner didn’t have to worry about concealed carry.

No need to apologize. I gave up on Connecticut 30 years ago, but some fond memories still remain.
