UPDATE: 11:30 a.m. ET: James Holmes, the suspect in the Colorado theater massacre, appeared in a Colorado courtroom on Monday. A judge advised Holmes of his Miranda rights, and that there was probable cause to continue to hold him without bond on suspicion of first-degree murder.
Holmes, who was transported from from a holding cell to the courtroom via an underground tunnel, appeared dazed: his brow furrowed, his eyes opening and closing often. His hair was dyed red. He did not speak.
Seated in a jury box next public defender Tamara Brady, Holmes never looked towards a gallery that included about two dozen victims and victims advocates.
The preliminary hearing lasted for about 11 minutes. Holmes' next court appearance is July 30.

All that don't matter...The damage was done...What's left is the DA, the cops, courts and attorneys parading this guy around for the cameras for the next 2 years...They'll all do interviews, some will write books, others just enjoy the attention, the cameras and face time.

He is not suffering from any sort of mental illness, the boy was trying to come out the cloud of orders to mentally shut down should he fail to be terminated.
That boy was wired mentally to do as he was told, he , in court, was seen trying to shake the fog of direction out of his head so he could do something, anything... but each time he almost got there, his direction was to mentally collapse and he almost went to sleep, they did not expect him to live nor give comment on his apartment, they did not have a backup plan for him actually being “after the fact”
The boy shows what anyone who sees a good hypnotist or has had hypno therapy training of induction knows.... he was fried seven ways to hell and back from giving anything that would be his cognitive “real self” every time he tried to come to “thinking out of the subconscious”
He has no idea where he is, what is happening, or what he is going through, and the lamestream showed it in real time till someone made a call and the oppsss....

I think the pleas shoul be changed from “not guilty by reason of insanity” to “guilty but insane”. The defendant has to plead guilty, then the burrden of proof is on him to show that he was insane.
If he fails, he can be sentenced with no appeals about guilt.
It really is a shame this POS is still breating......
He is certainly insane, but I believe that there is overwhelming evidence that at the time of the crimes, this murderer did appreciate the nature or quality or wrongfulness of the acts and as such, an insanity defense may be good theater, and a good money maker for those that present it, he will eventually be found guilty and sent to prison.

You make a valid point, did the parents know there was something wrong? Probably...could they have done something? Frankly, since the ACLU made it almost impossible to secure people with mental illness or just plain ol’ murderous inclinations until AFTER they have gone on a rampage, short of putting one in his ear when he came home for a visit, what could they have done? Any calls to to the police would have been ignored. Don’t misunderstand me, when all is said and done, this one needs to be put down like any other rabid animal.

I saw him on FOX. He’s playing the disoriented, the nut, the uninterested in his own minimum life sentence and possibly death-by-inmates in prison.
He is too smart to do anything but pull a Hinckley! It’s his only ticket to a mental hospital and, nowadays, an eventual release.

I’m not new here.
Possible. Anecdotal, I know a young man who clearly has mental problems and his parents, his friends, etc. have tried to help him. All fear that something could really go bad....in spite of all of their efforts to get help for him. The best they can do is get him psychiatry and medications and as much care and love as possible. And prayer without ceasing.
He acts better with psyche and meds but sometimes these people go off their meds thinking they are alright.
And that is when the nightmare really ratchets up...quickly. Very sad.
Incidentally (or not), he has a female cousin with the same type of behavior. She didn't kill anyone but she is a felon. Very, very, very sad all around for them and for their families and for their victims. (tears for situations such as this)
The murderer is coming to grips that lucid dreaming is taking a turn for the worse.
Next up should be Old Sparky but somehow that is too cruel. Maybe is traditional firing squad, but that is considered too cruel because of a fine performance by Tommy Lee Jones. I guess its a date with a needle if the prosecution is competent, but proper justice would be hanged, drawn and quartered at least.
If you’ve ever been around people who are schizophrenic or psychotic, they often act much as someone would who is “on something”.
