An unoriginal Obama quote, taken out of context (Washington Post Factchecker)
Washington Post ^ | 7-23-2012 | Glenn Kessler

Posted on 07/23/2012 8:52:10 AM PDT by raulgomez05

The biggest problem with Romney’s ad is that it leaves out just enough chunks of Obama’s words — such as a reference to “roads and bridges”— so that it sounds like Obama is attacking individual initiative. The ad deceivingly cuts away from Obama speaking in order to make it seem as if the sentences follow one another, when in fact eight sentences are snipped away.

When did WaPo start dealing with the facts? Is this a new policy or something over there?

Romney included the most damaging part, which is the purely snide disrespect for business owners...the ‘they think they are smart’, they think they ‘work hard’. That is the damning part. It shows his contempt, and shows his street agitator core.

The only problem with Kessler's argument is English grammar. The obvious antecedent of the singular "that" is a singular word in the same sentence, not some plural nouns in the previous sentence.

Obama's bodyguards in the press never rest. It is useful though to remind people that he was plagiarizing from a speech by Fauxcahontas Warren...it isn't even original claptrap but borrowed.

I’ve now read several of these “context” arguments about what Obama “really” said, and I still come away with the obvious conclusion that the Romney ad is 100% correct. Quoting Elizabeth Warren and/or FDR doesn’t really bolster their position. The fact that the Post goes to FDR for support shows just how disconnected they really are.

Taken in full context, Obama’s statement is more reflective of his Marxist/Leninist ideology.

Obama goes back to that well, several times, to make his point that what’s yours is mine.

He completely undermines the concept of anyone having EARNED their success.

Obama’s mocking of “smart people” and “people who work hard” in the complete statement is worse than the edited version in the ad. But that was the best cover-up of The First Dictator that his mouthpiece, the Washinton Compost, could come up with.

It’s the redistributionist tone of Obama’s remarks that many are picking up on. Taking from the productive and giving to the politically connected in order to remain in power is anti-American.

The stupidity of this “explanation” of Obama’s words is that he is STILL FACTUALLY INCORRECT!

Let’s go with the WORM (what obama really meant) argument that he was referring to the roads and bridges. The MSM is saying that Obama meant that the businesses didn’t build the roads and bridges - WRONG!

Both personal and business taxes were paid by those business owners, so YES - THEY DID BUILD THAT - TOO! And typically, the businesses were there and growing, which caused a need for bigger, better roads and bridges - which are also paid for by more taxes from THE BUSINESS OWNERS!

So, they took all the risk, they worked all the hours, they paid their taxes (personal and business) and now they succeed, Obama and liberals think they should pay MORE! Liberals are AGAINST private success! SCREW THEM!

I've been thinking about this for months.

Øbama the populist has become a folksy/ebonicsy illiterate in his speeches.

This eletist, occidental, columbia, harvard educated member of the itelligencia surely should speak proper English.

But noooo, he wants to be one of the folks, not like Romney who is out of touch.

Soon the Folks will think they are smarter than he... I know I am.

The main point is still valid regardless of the post’s grammatical checking. I’m just astounded that more people aren’t in a rage over this jerks comments. And the crowd that was there liked the message. They are the ones that will NOT be swayed no matter what you show or tell them. Get in the boxcar, we’re going sight seeing. Duh, okay.

OK, forget all that for a moment. Take the original comment.

Is that the best way to inspire people? By telling them what they DIDN’T do? What they CAN’T do?

Tell them what they CAN do, and they might just do it.

Obama's bodyguards in the press never rest.

To paraphrase Churchill: In a campaign, Obama's lies are so precious that they should always be attended by a bodyguard of more lies.

WaPo is circling the obamawagon train. Romney is not the only one who heard the Marxist-in-chief utter the words, and, know fully what he meant by them.

Obamas words were just saying what he has exhibited in deed for the past 3 1/2 years.

Obama is, among other things, a crook. Excuses and lies are his stock in trade.

Let’s see, if we take 0bama’s speech, in its entirety, in context, he’s still justifying rapacious tax rates on small business owners by saying that it wasn’t their hard work that built the business, it was built on someone else’s hard work.

There is no “context” that changes this meaning.

The fact that the Post goes to FDR for support shows just how disconnected they really are.

FDR started the welfare state. We are suffering the consequences now of his redistributionist and collectivist philosophy. The WP inadvertently has given Romney more ammo if he has the guts to use it. Here is the WP quote of FDR:

Wealth in the modern world does not come merely from individual effort; it results from a combination of individual effort and of the manifold uses to which the community puts that effort. The individual does not create the product of his industry with his own hands; he utilizes the many processes and forces of mass production to meet the demands of a national and international market.

“Therefore, in spite of the great importance in our national life of the efforts and ingenuity of unusual individuals, the people in the mass have inevitably helped to make large fortunes possible. Without mass cooperation great accumulations of wealth would be impossible save by unhealthy speculation. As Andrew Carnegie put it, ‘Where wealth accrues honorably, the people are always silent partners.’ Whether it be wealth achieved through the cooperation of the entire community or riches gained by speculation — in either case the ownership of such wealth or riches represents a great public interest and a great ability to pay.

“People know that vast personal incomes come not only through the effort or ability or luck of those who receive them, but also because of the opportunities for advantage which Government itself contributes. Therefore, the duty rests upon the Government to restrict such incomes by very high taxes.”

How could it be out of “context”? It was the core theme of the speech. Entrepreneurs don’t build anything. They make money off the “investment” of government.

Was this taken out of context too? It is virtually the same thing:

“Government research created the Internet so that all companies could make money off the Internet.”

I heard somewhere that both Brian Ross and Obama are convicted child molesters. I hope it’s not true.
