OK, let me get this straight . . .

6,000 rounds is a "mind boggling stash of ammo" ???

Then again, modern Britain is a place where they've been known to go into a panic because a single round of .22LR was found on the street .

The handwringing over this is just amazing. . . .and yet no mention of the three hero boyfriends who died, protecting their dates. . . .

I wonder how many rounds the patriots used in 1780s? Maybe we’re a little more prepared to keep our government in check than they are?

To be fair, 6,000 rounds sounds like a lot more than it really is. If I didn’t know better I’d imagine a small warehouse full.

And most of that ammo was for a high-powered military assault rifle!

I’m very pro 2nd Amendment and I’d consider it a noteworthy quantity, particularly when held by someone who exhibits any kind of odd behavior.

A couple of friends and I used to go “plinking” with .22s and go through nearly a 3rd of that in an afternoon. We bought ammo in a 2000 round canister.

Granted it was cheap ammo so we had a fair number of misfires.

One case of .22 LR is 5000 rounds, and will fit under the seat of a pickup truck.

I’m in the industry, and our company has to order in ammunition from time to time. We’ve had as much as 800,000 rounds on hand at once.

They’d go into seizures if they knew what many of we Freepers and preppers had stashed.

1,000 rounds of .45 cal ammo weighs 49 pounds. The package is not that large, it is the weight. .22 Caliber will weigh less, but still quite heavy.

Ones get the best pricing if one buys in bulk.

A case of 22rf is 5000 rounds just a nice amount for a year of light practice.

I wonder what the headlines would read if they were to uncover the muzzies stash of explosives hidden on their soil. Just saying.

The gun grabbers are going to come after internet sales of ammo. They’ve already dabbled in this area with the aborted attempt by the EPA to ban lead ammo, and with the unbelievably large purchases of ammo by the government that have so severely limited the supply to civilians. An outright ban of ammo sales over the internet will be the next step - they’ll make it require an FFL to sell in quantities larger than 50 rounds.

Except, of course, Holmes hadn’t exhibited “sufficiently odd” behavior to prohibit ownership of weapons or ammo.

Hell, I’ve got that many rounds of ammo (and more) for my old Mosin-Nagant, simply because I picked up 10 cases of ammo for a song at a estate auction (8800 rounds. Cost me 35 bucks. . . ) And 3 more rifles for 100. . .

“,particularly when held by someone who exhibits any kind of odd behavior.”

I would recommend slow ahead, on comments like that....some may see, posting on FR, as “odd behavior”

450 million rounds of .40 caliber ammo is mind-boggling.

Well, you’ve introduced the “odd behavior” additional factor, but 6000 rounds is not much at all and many recreational shooters will have that and more. Depending on the caliber, it may not even take up much space. See the attached link for a 5,000 round brick:
