There is no such thing as pig abuse.

One who declares pig abuse is deranged.

Ok, I’ll accept that...as I said, someone who deals with them would know their quirks far better than I could.

We have feral hogs on our place in Texas, yes they are awful, destructive animals. Sometimes they eat their young.

Floor slamming was surely already contrary to animal cruelty laws and ought to have been addressed. But carbon dioxide may or may not work well; for odd reasons it can fail. Cows are often slaughtered with captive-bolt guns; why couldn’t piglets be put out of their misery the same way? These guns are air powered and unlikely to fail but technically they too are blunt force trauma. The baby has been tossed out with the bath water.

The company said that blunt force euthanasia was approved by the veterinary association for pork producers. That doesn't make it right.

I'd argue whether the technique was blunt force 'euthanasia.' They didn't even slam these piglets into the ground unti they were dead.

They would slam them two, three, or four times into the concrete, then toss the living piglet onto a pile to die.

Like you, I don't know the answer. As for captive-bolt guns, piglets squirm more than cows and the target area is much smaller.

However, there has to be a better way than the way shown in the video. The company's essentially admitted that practice can't continue once the public knows about it. Of everything shown in the video, it's the only practice that will be discontinued.

“You need to study logic...”

I remember that line from college - it ALWAYS meant that the argument was over and the guy saying it as much as admitted he lost.

Thanks.

Someone needs to strip those “vets” of their licenses if they prescribed floor slamming. It should be one blow and they’re out, if anything. Floor slamming does not achieve that. A sledge hammer might.

As a blanket statement it can state nothing, but when followed by the specific rule of logic which the opponent violated it’s just a dig and has no bearing on the application of the rule of logic stated.

You are confusing an ad hominem attack against you, with your flawed logic being exposed.

You must have gone to College many years ago.

A line generally employed by those who just got skunked over a matter of logic and cannot bring themselves to admit it.

So a pig isn’t an animal?

Another is the use of ridicule. You seem to have mastered that one pretty good Madam Alinsky.

While you’re talking out of your @ss, you might as well go shove another cupcake up your pie hole.

Idiot.

I think you missed the point. Pigs are food (and I eat meat) but it doesn’t mean the animals need to be tortured. Did you watch the video? Did you shrug your shoulders or maybe let out a little giggle? If you are indifferent to animal cruelty and abuse then it’s your problem not mine.

"Shocking video shows extent of pig abuse at farm supplying pork to Walmart where animals have tails ripped off and are packed into tiny gestation cages.

Note the word in bold. Anyone who has ever raised pigs (I are one) knows that female pigs are notorious for killing their newborn offspring, either by accident (rollover) or (much less often) deliberately.

And dead piglets are an unavoidable part of pig breeding, no matter how much care is taken. And "momma" will eat dead piglets if not removed. There is no "force feeding" involved. It's the way pigs are. The whole point of the GESTATION PENS is to minimize dead piglets.

Just more eco-propaganda.

"When I was five years old I was better at catching a chicken and wringing it around until its head popped off than my mom was. Then we’d put it in a pot of boiling water so we could pluck the feathers, clean it, cut it up and fry it so we’d have fresh chicken for Sunday dinner. It’s farm life, they are farm animals. Everything has a purpose and everything we did to our animals was for a good reason."

Been there, done most of that. Except we used a cane knife instead of wringing. Seen it done, though.

MUCH smaller target. Much more likely to miss and cause additional injury and pain. Floor slamming LOOKS barbaric, but it is less prone to such error. Kind of hard to floor slam a cow (or calf).

Garbage. Ever heard of nerve reflex??? The piglet is DEAD when it leaves the workers hand. Damned shame you fall for a very likely faked propaganda flick.

I don't see an elephant torture thread.

Just, damn.

I don’t get the need of some on this board that like to beat their chest and act so callous toward animals and their suffering. You see it on cat threads and less so on dog threads. I’m not a PETA nut. I don’t put animals on the same level or above humans, but we don’t have to be cruel either. Conservatives call it Animal Welfare as opposed to the left’s Animal Rights. Thanks TribalPrincess2U for posting the video. I’m a little skeptical of some of it. The left does embellish, out and out lies for their cause, and will leave out inconvenient facts, but no doubt that less than humane practices go on with animals in some farming, circuses, etc.
