Israel May Seize Advanced Weapons in Syria

Barak: Israel may seize advanced weapons in Syria

By REUTERS

Israel Defense Minister tells Israeli TV Ch. 10 he has instructed military to prepare for possible operation if Syrian government attempts to hands missiles or chemical weapons to Hezbollah in Lebanon.

Israel is preparing for a possible military intervention in Syria in case the Syrian government hands missiles or chemical weapons to Hezbollah in Lebanon, Defense Minister Ehud Barak said on Friday.

"I have instructed the military to increase its intelligence preparations and prepare what is needed so that ... (if necessary) ... we will be able to consider carrying out an operation," Barak said in an interview on Channel 10 television.

"We are following ... the possible transfer of advanced munitions systems, mainly anti-aircraft missiles or heavy ground-to-ground missiles, but there could also be a possibility of the transfer of chemical means (weapons) from Syria to Lebanon," he added.

"The moment (Syrian President Bashar al-Assad) starts to fall we will conduct intelligence monitoring and will liaise with other agencies," Barak said.

Hezbollah, which has in the past received military and financial support from Syria and Iran, launched thousands of mainly short-range rockets into Israel during Israel's 2006 offensive in southern Lebanon, but some longer-range rockets reached central Israel.

Their border has largely remained quiet since then.

On Thursday, Barak toured the Golan Heights, a strategic plateau that Israel captured from Syria in the Middle East war in 1967 and from where it can monitor movements inside the territory of its northern foe.

Barak said Israeli troops were preparing to prevent an influx of refugees into territory that Israel controls there.

"They (refugees) have not chosen to come close to us, but in the event of the regime's downfall, which could happen..., (Israeli forces) here are alert and ready, and if we have to stop waves of refugees, we will stop them," Barak said.

Syrian rebels have assassinated four of Assad's closest aides in Damascus and seized three border crossings with Iraq and Turkey this week, putting the Syrian leader under greater pressure than at any time in the 16-month uprising against his rule.

Someone please explain to me, why they are talking about this before they do it?

Because Obama and Hillary have been trying to stop them.

Then we have this from military intelligence at the UK.

Fears grow Syria will use chemical weapons stockpile

British military intelligence chiefs told The Daily Telegraph there was a "high probability" of the Assad regime resorting to chemical agents following the assassination of three senior Syrian military figures in a bomb attack on Wednesday.

A source said that the killings amounted to a "red line crossed" for the regime and that a chemical attack could come "soon" as a result. "The threat is genuine," the source added.

Syria has Iraq's old WMD’s

...As America built up forces to invade Iraq, massive
movements of material were reportedly on roads to Syria.

Yep.

The dems stalled and stalled while semi's were traveling to Syria with WMDs and truckloads of millions of dollars in US cash.

By the time the dems decided to take action, much damage was done.

Those posters saying that Obama won't be in the loop of any action by Israel are correct.

The Israelis know that he would drop a dime on them in an instant.

Obama might as well as yelled from the rooftops "I will betray Israel any chance I get"

I remember during the Iraq War, ABC News Nightline played an audio tape of an Iraqi general speaking in Arabic (with an English translation).

The Iraqi general claimed there was a dam collapse in Syria in 2002. Saddam Hussein sent planeloads of relief supplies from Iraq to Syria. According to the Iraqi general, those planes did NOT carry relief supplies, but instead carried Iraq’s weapons of mass destruction.

I don’t know if this is true, but this is what an Iraqi general claimed to have witnessed.

Obama might as well as yelled from the rooftops "I will betray Israel any chance I get".

We have a president who went to Saudi Arabia quickly and bowed to their King.

From what I understand, he has never even been to Israel ?

Thanks IsraelBeach.

I don’t think they’ll be seizing those weapons, unless destroying them from the air counts. :’)

Yes, these are Saddam's chemical weapons that Democrats said Bush lied about.

Well then these folks "lied" too

"One way or the other, we are determined to deny Iraq the capacity to develop weapons of mass destruction and the missiles to deliver them. That is our bottom line." --President Bill Clinton, Feb. 4, 1998

"If Saddam rejects peace and we have to use force, our purpose is clear. We want to seriously diminish the threat posed by Iraq's weapons of mass destruction program." --President Bill Clinton, Feb. 17, 1998

"Iraq is a long way from [here], but what happens there matters a great deal here. For the risks that the leaders of a rogue state will use nuclear, chemical or biological weapons against us or our allies is the greatest security threat we face." --Madeline Albright, Feb 18, 1998

"He will use those weapons of mass destruction again, as he has ten times since 1983." --Sandy Berger, Clinton National Security Adviser, Feb, 18, 1998

"[W]e urge you, after consulting with Congress, and consistent with the U.S. Constitution and laws, to take necessary actions (including, if appropriate, air and missile strikes on suspect Iraqi sites) to respond effectively to the threat posed by Iraq's refusal to end its weapons of mass destruction programs." Letter to President Clinton, signed by: -- Democratic Senators Carl Levin, Tom Daschle, John Kerry, and others, Oct. 9, 1998

"Saddam Hussein has been engaged in the development of weapons of mass destruction technology which is a threat to countries in the region and he has made a mockery of the weapons inspection process." -Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D, CA), Dec. 16, 1998

"Hussein has ... chosen to spend his money on building weapons of mass destruction and palaces for his cronies." -- Madeline Albright, Clinton Secretary of State, Nov. 10, 1999

"There is no doubt that ... Saddam Hussein has reinvigorated his weapons programs. Reports indicate that biological, chemical and nuclear programs continue apace and may be back to pre-Gulf War status. In addition, Saddam continues to redefine delivery systems and is doubtless using the cover of a licit missile program to develop longer-range missiles that will threaten the United States and our allies." Letter to President Bush, Signed by: -- Sen. Bob Graham (D, FL), and others, Dec 5, 2001

"We begin with the common belief that Saddam Hussein is a tyrant and a threat to the peace and stability of the region. He has ignored the mandate of the United Nations and is building weapons of mass destruction and th! e means of delivering them." -- Sen. Carl Levin (D, MI), Sept. 19, 2002

"We know that he has stored secret supplies of biological and chemical weapons throughout his country." -- Al Gore, Sept. 23, 2002

"Iraq's search for weapons of mass destruction has proven impossible to deter and we should assume that it will continue for as long as Saddam is in power." -- Al Gore, Sept. 23, 2002

"We have known for many years that Saddam Hussein is seeking and developing weapons of mass destruction." -- Sen. Ted Kennedy (D, MA), Sept. 27, 2002

"The last UN weapons inspectors left Iraq in October of 1998. We are confident that Saddam Hussein retains some stockpiles of chemical and biological weapons, and that he has since embarked on a crash course to build up his chemical and biological warfare capabilities. Intelligence reports indicate that he is seeking nuclear weapons..." -- Sen. Robert Byrd (D, WV), Oct. 3, 2002

"I will be voting to give the President of the United States the authority to use force -- if necessary -- to disarm Saddam Hussein because I believe that a deadly arsenal of weapons of mass destruction in his hands is a real and grave threat to our security." -- Sen. John F. Kerry (D, MA), Oct. 9, 2002

"There is unmistakable evidence that Saddam Hussein is working aggressively to develop nuclear weapons and will likely have nuclear weapons within the next five years ... We also should remember we have always underestimated the progress Saddam has made in development of weapons of mass destruction." -- Sen. Jay Rockefeller (D, WV), Oct 10, 2002

"He has systematically violated, over the course of the past 11 years, every significant UN resolution that has demanded that he disarm and destroy his chemical and biological weapons, and any nuclear capacity. This he has refused to do" -- Rep. Henry Waxman (D, CA), Oct. 10, 2002

"In the four years since the inspectors left, intelligence reports show that Saddam Hussein has worked to rebuild his chemical and biological weapons stock, his missile delivery capability, and his nuclear program. He has also given aid, comfort, and sanctuary to terrorists, including al Qaeda members ... It is clear, however, that if left unchecked, Saddam Hussein will continue to increase his capacity to wage biological and chemical warfare, and will keep trying to develop nuclear weapons." -- Sen. Hillary Clinton (D, NY), Oct 10, 2002

"We are in possession of what I think to be compelling evidence that Saddam Hussein has, and has had for a number of years, a developing capacity for the production and storage of weapons of mass destruction." -- Sen. Bob Graham (D, FL), Dec. 8, 2002

"Without question, we need to disarm Saddam Hussein. He is a brutal, murderous dictator, leading an oppressive regime ... He presents a particularly grievous threat because he is so consistently prone to miscalculation ... And now he is miscalculating America's response to his continued deceit and his consistent grasp for weapons of mass destruction ... So the threat of Saddam Hussein with weapons of mass destruction is real..." -- Sen. John F. Kerry (D, MA), Jan. 23. 2003

Then again — Israel may not seize anything. I suspect they will not unless they want the virtual wrath of God from 500,000 Syrian troops and 1.2 million Iranian troops. This is what we get into when we don’t mind our own business. Let’s please don’t do “WmD” again. It has cost us our country and put obama in power . Let’s don’t do it again .That is the definition of insanity.

The Israelis have their very own Wrath of God in the form of at least a hundred nuclear weapons. If anything like the numbers you mention move anywhere close to Israel all those troops will be radioactive vapor.

And I will stand up and cheer if it happens.

Yes we gave them nukes. Get ready for the “doctrine of preemption”. The Soviets have more than we do and those Pakisacks too. If Israel throws nukes you won’t believe the wrath.I want no part of it because nothing there has anything to do with me or my husband.

I could easily see Psalm 83 and/or Isaiah 17 going down as early as the next week. Potential tipping point is here, or very close for the use of WMD’s in the region.

Luckily you don’t have to worry, because you don’t know what you are talking about. Syria can barely defeat it’s own rebels, it does not have any 500,000 troops to throw against Israel right now. Iran cannot possibly put 1.2 million troops into Israel. They would have to cross mountains, Iraq, etc to get there and they couldn’t, nor could they be supplied so far from home and they would be defeated.

IF Obama plays this right, Iran should at least lose Syria, and Syria will be in no shape to threaten Israel.

Yes we gave them [Israel] nukes.

Not so. It was the French that built their first reactor in the 1950s. JFK and LBJ may have looked the other way when they actually crossed the nuclear threshold, but that is not the same thing.
