Boehner Blasts Bachmann's 'Dangerous' Accusations Against Clinton Aide (Gag)

U.S. House Speaker John Boehner defended a senior adviser to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton after five members of his caucus claimed her relatives had ties to Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood.

Boehner, an Ohio Republican, told reporters in Washington today that while he doesn’t know Huma Abedin personally, his impression is that she has a “sterling character.” The accusations made against her in a June 13 letter to the State Department were “pretty dangerous,” the speaker said.

A day earlier Senator John McCain, an Arizona Republican, criticized five House Republicans, including former Republican presidential candidate Michele Bachmann, who sent the letter alleging Abedin’s family had connections to the Muslim Brotherhood and questioning whether she promoted the organization’s cause within the U.S. government.

McCain, in a Senate floor speech yesterday, called the allegations “an unwarranted and unfounded attack on an honorable citizen, a dedicated American and a loyal public servant.”

“When anyone, not least a member of Congress, launches specious and degrading attacks against fellow Americans on the basis of nothing more than fear of who they are and ignorance of what they stand for, it defames the spirit of our nation, and we all grow poorer because of it,” McCain said, adding that he has known Abedin for more than a decade.

In the letter, Bachmann and the other House Republicans cited a report from the Center for Security Policy, a Washington policy group, claiming that Abedin’s mother, brother and late father had connections to the Muslim Brotherhood. It is Egypt’s largest Islamist organization, from whose ranks the country’s new president, Mohamed Mursi, was selected.

The letter said Abedin’s position “affords her routine access to the secretary and to policymaking” and that the State Department has “taken actions recently that have been enormously favorable to the Muslim Brotherhood and its interests.”

Good ole Republicans going at each other instead of the enemy. When does anyone EVER hear the democrats do anything but circle the wagons and defend their fellow dems no matter how horrible the behavior/crime committed is. Makes me think McCain and Boehner are in bed with the Brotherhood. If they disagree with Michele, why can’t they just keep their stupid mouths shut.

This uproar seems to be directed at Bachmann because she is speaking up, calling a spade a spade, as they used to say.

The Huma connections among many others are documented and footnoted in her letter to Ellison. GOP-E leaders cluck tongues and Dems question her relationship to the truth only after they deride her for breaking the silence on how pervasive the MuzzBros are. Now it's full shoot-the messenger mode, dysfunctional as hell.

I remember what El Rushbo said about Bachmann as a pres. candidate, that he would never doubt that she would do the right thing to protect the country. She is now joining a battle that has chosen her. She is more concerned with the next generation than the next election, so God bless 'er.

I can’t stand scumbags that show greater interest in pissing on their own than taking on the adversary.

Step down, jackass. You’re a useless distraction.

I hate 0dumb0 with a passion. Juan McQueeg & Boner are right up there with 0dumb0 in terms of my hatred for these two capitulating bastards. Both of them need to get the boot. I will never understand how AZ could have voted to put Juan McQueeg in for his 5th or 6th Senate term! Or how Boner was able to convince Repuke reps to vote him in as Speaker of the House. What a chicken shit he is!

What a second! Why am I slamming AZ, when I live in MN and MN voters put Mark Ritchie hard core demoRAT at SOS, and then in turn put the buffoon radical retard Al Frankenstein in as MN senator.

God help our nation. Actually it should be, God forgive our nation for allowing these demonic characters into the reins & control of our gubmint! What travesties have been wrought in our nation!

Well...is it true? The best defense against accusations of slander is the truth.

Yes, it is true that her family snuggles with Al Quaeda, and apparently she does not publicly and fully repudiate their actions, eh?

However, Huma Abedin has two other fatal character flaws that ought to bar her from any responsible position in American government:

(1) She is a follower of Mohammed -- the closer the less a believer in American values.
(2) She has an extremely poor judgment in slecting a life partner.

You note I said "ought," but we have a lot like her we have permitted to undercut any value I ever learned as a child.

"...Huma Abedin has two other fatal character flaws that ought to bar her from any responsible position in American government..."

When Obama was elected, it became fact that there are no character flaws that can prevent anyone from holding any office.

Can you imagine? Americans elected someone who was unapologetically good friends with a real anti-American terrorist, and attended a racist "church".

Traffic to Spencer's article has slowed Frontpage's website to a crawl.

McCain will rue the day that he stuck his nose in this.

She may be the leak or the source to the leak. She knows EVERYTHING that the State Department is doing.

Whenever conservatives challenge the power of the establishment, republicans are happy to circle the wagons with democrats to fight off anyone who endangers the system.

They bicker with democrats to see who gets first pick of the loot they steal from taxpayers and to make it look like there is a difference between the parties.

But when outsiders stick their noses in, the establishment politicians band together.

Mark Levin led off his show tonight (PODCAST) with an attack on those who are attacking Bachmann and defending Abedin - even though they admit they don't know any of the facts!

Maybe some here have a perfect family. And for that I congratulate you. I think most, myself included, have fathers, mothers, brothers and sisters that do not share our beliefs.

When I filled out my DD form 398 to start my background investigation, I was ask for family histories and all possible affiliations with a list of potentially subversive groups or individuals. Family does matter, or it once did.

I think it helped my application that My Grandfather and Father both already had passed a background investigation, although my clearance was higher.

How many on FR will slam those who think Bachmann screwed up without even figuring out who the subject of the letter was or knowing anything other than what the letter said?

I have no idea of the facts in the case but Bachmann has managed to put her foot in it a time or two - she didn't really need to be "destroyed" by the Romney campaign - she bared her own throat with some bone-headed remarks while trying to pander out as Mizz Super Conservative.
