Tech. Sgt. Erwynn Umali, 34, and civilian Will Behrens, 35, held their wedding at the Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst in N.J. in June
When Tech. Sgt. Erwynn Umali and civilian Will Behrens wanted to seal their commitment in a civil union in New Jersey, they chose a venue that nine months ago would have been unthinkable: a military base.
The grooms said their vows on June 23 before 150 guests at the chapel at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst the first time a civil union or gay wedding has been held in such a facility in the United States.
While the couple says theres still a larger battle to be won before they can live in true domestic bliss, they hope the significance of that ceremony will not be lost on others in the military who want to live openly.
Its a struggle that Will and I have gone through and so many people are going through, Umali, an active-duty serviceman in the Air Force, told the Daily News on Wednesday. Now I can introduce Will as my partner or my husband instead of my friend or my boyfriend. We dont have to live in fear.
At their wedding last month, Umali wore his Air Force uniform, Behrens dressed in a tux.
Navy Chaplain Kay Reeb, of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America, officiated the union.

There wasn't enough room to post the obligatory barf alert in the headline ... sorry.
It’s time for decent people to exit the military. Only a significant drop in recruitment and retention will result in DADT or a ban on homosexuals to be reinstated.
Disgraceful and sickening.
At times I regret getting out after 4 years back in the early 90s but staying really wasn’t practical for many reasons but seeing stuff like this makes me glad I didn’t hang around.
So you are voting for the "lesser of two evils" (b. Hussien Obama) right?
DOD won't ever go back to those standards. They'll just further relax those for entry. Homos in the military are there to stay.
Now you will really be happy!!! /sarcasm
Only a significant drop in recruitment and retention will result in DADT or a ban on homosexuals to be reinstated.
The military could not have timed this better. They are getting rid of people right now. They do not need any retention numbers because they already have too many people not only in the military but loads ready to reenlist at the first call. Seriously this is a disaster because they will never blame DADT on poor retention because by the time there is poor retention (when the economy recovers in 20 years) they won’t blame it on DADT because it will be long forgotten. We are in poor shape in this country for many reasons. One is our lack of morals as a whole.
Then conscription will come back. The elitists will be able to buy or influence their way out. You will then have many soldiers who don't want to be there, aren't treated well, and morale and discipline will plummet. Sounds like the Russian Army, doesn't it? Different paths, same result.
I don't vote for evil or liberal candidates. Voting for such candidates advances evil and liberalism with my vote. That is unacceptable.
The ONLY chance of the country moving the right in the next five years is electing a record number of Republicans to congress and someone like Scott Walker as President in 2016. Anything else results in the nation moving to the left for eight more years.
Gag - I hope those other airmen in the picture were there voluntarily and not ordered to assist.
ELCA chaplain huh? How appropos.
Lest anyone forget, DADT was repealed by the outgoing Democratic lame duck Congress in December 2010.
What are the chances to repeal the repeal? 0 I’m thinking - Republicans don’ have the stones.
So you are not voting at all right?
Two 4F’s don’t make a 1A.
That's what I am hoping for. As soon as there is a possibility of draft, changes, including a ban on homosexuals, will be made.
No, I'm voting for Republican candidates at the Congressional and state level and a third-party candidate for President.
Make sure the link has the )) on the end of it.

I’m a little naive sometimes...I wondered why a Lutheran Minister would even perform this ceremony.
Then I peeked at Wikipedia for the Evangelical Lutheran Church...wow!
They allow non-celibate gays to become ordained ministers, bless same sex unions, and ‘welcome and encourage’ LGBT members to join.
The new military will be faggots, women, and PC liberals.
