On another thread, some FReepers are already complaining that he put patrons in danger, that the robbers weren't really threatening anybody, that he's another George Zimmerman, etc. etc. etc.

In my opinion he did the right thing, and if everybody was willing to do the right thing there would be less hyperventilating and calling for the smelling salts when somebody does do the right thing.

I hope to goodness the DA doesn't charge him a la Zimmerman.

The only patron that appeared to be in danger was that woman who plodded right past the gunfire, hands over her ears. It made me wonder if she understood what was taking place around her.

You’re right. I was prepared to fault the guy until someone reminded me that shooting a running target while running was pretty impressive shooting.

I think the only one at risk were the bad guys. God Bless that concerned citizen. We need more like him!

They're nuts, at about 24 seconds in the video the guy in the hoodie (can I say hoodie or am I a radist) swings his weapon at Williams. I suppose Williams could be criticized for firing as they fled. Here in Illinois they'd charge you for that, along with a felony for the concealed weapon. What's a few more dead Chicagoians after all, they should use their home computers.

Re my post, I went to the other thread and no one was contending that they weren’t a threat. Tactical criticisms, like the proximity of patrons, not sure I can determine that from the video though his line of fire lookes clear to me, and firing as they fled, a crime many places since the threat has ended, are legitimate.
