'Romney Picks Petraeus for Veep!' Actually, no.But were you electrified by that headline?

Actually, no. Gov. Romney hasn't named his choice for vice president. But were you electrified by that headline? Did it pull you out of your chair, pump up your heart rate and make you believe, for the first time, that Obama's on the ropes and this election is ours to win? I thought so; me, too.

If the talking heads are right (and on rare occasions they are), Romney is playing this decision close to his chest. No one seems to know whose advice, if anyone's, he's seeking. But in the highly unlikely event that he calls me to chat about this, I'd tell him to go big, and to go for General David Petraeus. Here's why:

Petraeus is, quite simply, the most highly-regarded American in public life. Even those who opposed our military actions in Afghanistan and Iraq admire and respect this general. He's so obviously a brilliant, competent man. And he's always come across as low-key and personally modest. By choosing Petraeus as his running-mate, Romney would send out a message to voters that he isn't playing politics as usual; that he wants the most qualified people he can find for his administration -- and that he'll put the varsity team in place to confront a dangerous world.

Choosing the general also would stop the Obama attack team dead in its tracks.

China would up the cash to the Obama campaign if only this were the headline.

Given the problems he has had running the CIA, nope.

Upon reading that headline, I felt alarmed, not electrified, sorry to say.

Gen. Petraeus has referred to himself as a “Rockefeller Republican,” two words that would give chills up the spine of most conservatives.

Granted, Romney could do worse, but he could do better.

If Romney wants a former military man, I’d rather see him pick Congressman West.

It’s not 2007.
It’s not a Bush do-over.
Rightly or wrongly, the Iraq adventure is not remembered fondly in the US today.

Let’s move forward — Petraeus may be a fine man, but he would be seen as a step back.

Roberts was cnsidered a conservative USSC Justice until a few weeks ago, but he is a fully owned subsidiary of the leftist freaks.

Consider that the leftist freaks called Petraius “General Betray-us” for months and THEN put him in charge of the CIA.

Have to figure the Hussein Heads own him, too.

that there is a great endorsement - pick a man who worries the Chinese - and Putin

I’d also be OK with Hayden

Both brilliant men, and patriots

Either one would be most reassuring as part of our national team war with Iran begins

It will be time to fire/replace *ALL* the ‘Rat employees in January.

Bush reached across the aisle and it cost us many, many military casualties because he left our domestic enemies in office.

“’Romney Picks Petraeus for Veep!’ Actually, no.But were you electrified by that headline?”

Is there some reason that I should be “electrified”?

Where does Petraeus stand on ending baseline budgeting, cutting the federal budget by over 40%, eliminating whole departments of government, deporting illegal invaders, returning power to states not given to the feds, Fair Tax vs. flat tax, standards for nominating federal judges, repealing ObummerCare, Medipill, and other intrusions into health care and allowing the market to work instead, repealing No Child Left Standing, repealing “voter rights” legislation, etc., etc., etc.?

Without knowing their stands on the issues, how could anyone be “electrified” by Petraeus, Condeleeza Rice, or any other rabbit Romney might pull out of the hat?

No, China will do back flips if Petraeus is on the ticket. The appeaser will just throw "COINs" at the threat thinking he is winning the hearts and minds of the closet Communists.

Trying to buy the enemies' affection and play off each other's tribal conflicts is/will backfire. All the taxpayers get is ongoing resources wasted on the impossible missions that seek to civilize a counter-hegemony that does not wish to become Westernized or civilized.

Petraeus philosophy in dealing with the "center of gravity" will fit right in with the Nixons', Bushs' and other "New Worldist" who seek to use "capitalism" to transform China (Who use our capital to build their menacing war machine). Cheaper labor is just a bonus too in the idiotic strategy.

No, it didn’t electrify me at all.

Anyone who would accept a major national security post in this “administration” would raise an eyebrow of suspicion.

How do we know Petraeus isn’t a democrat in the Joe Sestak or Wesley Clark mold?

agreed on West...

I would also agree to Rubio as he is a vote getter in the hispanic community and , except for his dream act BS....much more conservative than Mittens...

Not electrified at all. That would be very disappointing. If Romney doesn’t pick a solid conservative that is VERY unlike himself, he will not get my vote, period.

Mitt’s campaign is nothing but warmed over McCain mush. It ain’t going anywhere, it is all show. Politics and politicians can not ‘fix’ the problems in the White House.

Never forget, they enabled this:
“Barack Obama, an illegal President, a stolen Social Security Number, a forged birth certificate, a forged Selective Service registration.”

I don’t see him picking a conservative at all. I hope I am wrong, but Romeny doesn’t want to share the glory with the VP. I think he’d pick Biden if he had his way so the contrast between the 2 might make Romeny look better.

You could very well be correct, and I'm sure he's thinking those things you mentioned. However, I think what might stop him picking someone like that, is that he will realize that if he doesn't placate the conservatives, he has no chance of winning the election, due to him being such a poor establishment choice to start with, as our nominee.

The republican nominee needed to be someone that all factions could at least get somewhat excited about and get behind. Romney is most certainly not that person. Party members having to vote for someone because the other guy is worse, is a horrible strategy to rely on for a victory.
