But four years later Mitt Romney is facing one of the most vexing questions of his campaign: what to do with Sarah Palin?
In an increasingly uncomfortable stand-off, he has not invited her to next month’s Republican national convention whilst she has failed to give him her full backing.
Palin has also not appeared with the Romney on the campaign trail and prefers to use her Facebook page to bash Barack Obama.
The result is that the Republican presidential candidate is left without the endorsement of a woman who can energise his base in a way he can only dream of.
The former Massachusetts governor - who is so emotionally cold friends reportedly call him ‘Tin Man’ - is facing nagging questions about how he can appeal to the Tea Party which still feels he is a left wing flip flopper.
Palin would fill that role but would constantly be in danger of going rogue - and not sticking to the carefully crafted scripts....

I don’t think anybody on FR believes the puppet show. I’ve heard a lot of people say they would vote for a worm before they would vote for Obama, and that Romney just barely meets that standard of acceptability.

When she talks about the “nominee”, she very rarely even mentions Romney’s name, and seems to gag a little if she does have to say his name.

Romney is afraid of a repeat performance.
When will the masses finally realize that they do not select the candidates? They only participate in the motions to make the final selection palatable and to trumpet to the world about our republic of the people, by the people and for the people along with free elections. Yeah, free elections for candidates chosen by the unseen, especially within the two major parties. No criminal family, political or otherwise is going to allow outsiders to get involved in family business!!!
I understand what you are saying. And she is the only prominent conservative who has not formally endorsed Romney.
But she has said some good things about the guy. Two weeks ago she said that she “wouldn’t blink” when voting for him. She also said that she is confident that he will “surround himself with conservatives.”
In honesty, it sounds like she is resigned to voting for Romney and voting against Obama.
So what exactly WILL you be bringing to America? By your clean hands?

Agreed. The “Christians” who are caving and voting for Romney are like those Christians who renounced Christ easily in the face of persecution. They are selling their soul for political expediency rather than standing on the Rock of Ages.
I never thought I would EVER in my life vote republican for president, but I made my one & only huge vote mistake 4 years ago & I WON’T do that again!
I may not like Romney much, but I despise Obama, so I see no other choice. Voting for a third party candidate will not, at least as of now, hurt Obama. It WOULD hurt Romney.

I despise both of them equally. I know members of Romney’s family who hate the man and know him to by a lying liberal and won’t vote for him.
I will not stand before God and try to justify why I voted for Mitt Romney, either on political (easy to research) or religious grounds (I used to be a member of his religion - I know the oaths he has taken and how they control their members).
The Republican party has moved to the left so far that there is no room for real conservatives in it anymore and they don’t want us. So be it, it will be on their heads.

That's correctomundo, Fonzie! That would be smart politics. Putting her in the VP spot, again, is the solution, though...not yet. That could be sure death threat. Not from us, of course, but media-wise. Just the same that she attracted us to voting for McCain, this combination would attract us to vote for him (well...most of us). The right has mostly voted R and a large (if not the largest) portion of the right support Sarah Palin. Even if he's not a SP fan, if he is interested in shoring up votes, he should at least bring her to the convention and support a conservative base.

And if one votes for someone just because of an endorsement, I would question that person’s ability to think for themself.

I wouldn’t vote for Romney just because Sarah Palin (or anyone else, for that matter) endorsed him. I will only vote for him because a second term for Barack Hussein Obama, unshackled and with nothing to lose, is unthinkable. I’m guessing that most Germans in 1946 wished that they could go back to the 1930’s and do things differently, don’t you? And in 2013, conservatives, Tea Partiers and the like will be the Jews in 1943.
Well Romney questions voters ability to think for themselves with all his groveling for support from other politicians - and some conservatives politicians believing they will sway them and it worked.
That is for you to decide. But if those that will cave on their principles so easily to support a candidate who violates CORE Conservative beliefs (abortion, gay marriage, etc) strike me as the kind of people who would renounce Christ in the face of persecution - which, if you go back to my post, is what I said. She does not "gag" when she says his name. She does however "gag" when she mentions obama. Sorry for those that are disappointed but, it is time to circle the wagons and defeat obama. Stop trashing Romney it is only helping the little socialist dictator in office.
That said, they shouldn't try to alienate Palin for the simple reason that she will be everywhere! The media will swarm about her like annoying gnats around honey.
If Romney wants any chance at reining her in and keeping her "on message" (his message, whatever that will turn out to be), he needs to keep her close, not push her away.

I agree. Her endorsement would make no difference. Those not voting for him would not change their minds if Palin endorsed him.

I still do not discount a large segment of the population.
While it will likely be a rough road ahead people will not tolerate chronic low employment and high taxes and strangling regulations and the lazy sponges soaking the system.
I believe what is going to pull us out of this mess is the gas/oil industry.

Imagine Romney asking her and word got out that she turned him down, flat. That would do irreparable damage to his campaign. He indeed does have a dilemma on his hands. He has to come up with a way to at least neutralize her lack of a clear cut endorsement of his pitiful candidacy.
Sarah is in the catbirds seat right about now and the Romnney-oid knows it. I personally believe Sarah should not endorse Romney-oid short of saying something to the effect of, "well, if Mitt is the Republican candidate come November then I'll vote the Republican candidate in the race no matter who that is".

I suspect he was hoping for us to get the zot. Opposition to Romney is not a zottable offense.
That's what I've been saying since he showed up on the stage during the debates. He does NOT belong in our campaign or on the ticket. He is an imposter in the GOP and his record proved it - his accomplishments are NOT the GOP platform.
Santorum supported him and shouted loudly in '08 that mitt is a conservative and best for America. And mitt had four years to get the 'hungry politicians' on his side and for political favors and not to be castrated by the GOP, they succumbed one by one.

That is true except it is actually a universe (more than one planet). I don’t need to look it up, I LIVED it for many years until God opened my eyes and delivered me from that evil.

I don’t like Mitt or his politics, but the fact of the matter is, Mitt is not as bad as the Marxist/Muslim usurper sob.
Nobody could be that bad.
This is the most important presidential election of our lifetime, and we MUST get Obama out of office before he finishes destroying America. THAT must be our number one goal.
Any vote cast for a third party candidate, any write-in, anyone staying home and refusing to vote is casting a vote for Obama.
Unfortunately, that’s just the way it is this time around, and there is nothing we can do about it.
I will vote in November- not for Romney, but against Obama.
