I think this is a fascinating (albeit older) interview. How do we conservatives reach people like Emmitt who seemingly agree with much of what we believe, yet self-identify as democrats? Hannity can drive me nuts at times but this interview is excellent.

That interview would have been more effective if Hannity had let Emmitt come to the realization that he is a conservative on his own.

C'mon... we know the real reason Emmitt and other erstwhile conservative blacks backed Obama. And if he jumped to the GOP side, he'd be seen as a traitor by other blacks.

For what it is worth, Emmitt Smith and Trent Richardson both graduated from the same high school.

Is he some ginormous ex-NFL player? Was he in KC at some time? If so, he used to visit next door to my house, frequently. He was HUGE.

Emmitt still is huge! And didn’t he win Dancing with the Stars? A really good guy, as I recall from his UF GAtor days. Even went back and took the credits he needed to graduate after leaving for the Pros, to honor his Mom’s wishes. No one knows who people like Emmitt vote for once they’re in the voting booth. Say what you have to, but do what is right.

I'd disagree. If McCain's and Obama's party affiliations and ideologies had been reversed, Obama would have won 10% of the black vote. Party trumps everything, especially when the party concerned is an advocate of freebies and racial preferences for blacks. Smith has a couple of kids. The current system lets them get into good schools and obtain no-show jobs like the ones Michelle and Barack have hogged their entire lives. By opposing racial preferences, the GOP would make it harder for them to do so.

I think Emmitt was in KC but I’m positive he is about 5 feet nine inches. Not exactly huge.

I must be thinking of someone else then. The guy I am thinking of had to be at least 6’6”. He was just a giant. The ex-neighbor was about 6’2”, played in the NFL, and this guy made him look small.

I met Emmitt Smith at a charity event for kids about 18 years ago. He was very nice and he was kind enough to sign a polaroid picture with the two of us standing next to each other. I am 5’8” and Emmitt was slightly shorter than me.

BTW, Michael Irving, Nate Newton, and Troy Aikman were there too. Emmitt was only one that gave out autographs and talked to the kids. He was a class act.

Yup, he was a Cowboy for most of his NFL career . Finished it out for the AZ Cardinals.
Had him in several classes and I played HS football with him my 10th and 12th grade at Escambia HS in Pensacola FL. That man was a freight train. he broke many state records while In high school, college and the NFL.
He’s the real deal, and a class act as far I’m concerned. He treated everyone the same, never got above it all.

Still my all-time favorite Cowboy! I have been a Cowboy fan since the mid-70s and I don't think there has ever been another Dallas player with more heart than Emmitt.

I will make the case that his 1993 performance against the Giants, with the separated shoulder, with the division title on the line, was the single-greatest individual performance, ever.

There may have been better running backs in terms of what they could do when healthy, but the bottom line was Emmitt was tougher, and more durable than they were.

Heck, I still think when he was at UF, Fred Taylor was a better RB than Emmitt, it’s just that the Gators passed the ball at lot more when he was there...but in the NFL, Taylor simply wasn’t nearly as durable.

That's exactly the game I was thinking of when I mentioned Emmitt’s heart! You could just see how he was willing himself to keep going. I will never forget it1

Actually, Emmitt was traded by the ‘Boys at the end of his career...to St. Louis I think. Interestingly, the Cowboys resigned him for 1$ at the end of his career so he could retire as a Cowboy.
