Romney’s Palin Problem: Where’s Her Convention Invite? (Advisor: she will be prohibited to speak)
Newsweek ^ | Sunday July 15, 2012 | Peter Boyle

Posted on 07/15/2012 6:34:16 PM PDT by Bigtigermike

[T]he Romney campaign has not asked Palin to speak at the convention nor contacted her about even attending the party’s marquee event in Tampa. Queries to the Romney camp about any possible Palin role at the convention meet with a stony silence. Palin does not seem surprised. “What can I say?” she responded in an email from Alaska, when asked by Newsweek about the convention, just before heading to Michigan to deliver an Obama-thumping speech. “I’m sure I’m not the only one accepting consequences for calling out both sides of the aisle for spending too much money, putting us on the road to bankruptcy, and engaging in crony capitalism.”

Romney was the choice of the party’s elites, whom Palin has regarded with open disdain ever since her rough treatment during the 2008 campaign. They are some of the same people who anonymously disparaged Palin as a clueless bumpkin, and some of them are now helping to run Romney’s campaign. When unnamed Romney aides tell reporters that Romney will likely go with a “safe” choice for vice president because of the 2008 “disaster,” Palin notices.

[....]

The Romney camp will not comment on Palin, or on plans for the convention, but one adviser associated with the campaign suggested that Palin would be prohibited from speaking at the Republican convention by her contract with Fox News. “It’s true I’m prohibited from doing some things,” Palin says, “but this is the first I’ve heard anyone suggest that as an excuse, er, reason to stay away from engaging in the presidential race. I’m quite confident Fox’s top brass would never strip anyone of their First Amendment rights in this regard.” (Fox says her contract would not prohibit speaking at the convention if she sought permission.)

There's really no reason to bother watching the Republican convention if there are no Conservative speakers.

Still, if they have some violence I might tune in later on ~ but it'd really take something to get me to bother with it.

This is a campaign conducted by congenital losers and they will lose as bad this time as the last time they ran a campaign.

We will not be rid of this GOP-e crowd until we expel them from the party.

Not completely relevant to the thread, but funny nevertheless.

Hey, it's well known some of the Romney people tried to defame her, I know that, and you know I know that.

I'll be shocked if they shut her out when the time comes. It makes no sense. Please pardon me while I be a skeptic about the article and what it's trying to do. I seriously doubt they have any interest in real news.

“Romney isn’t even working to get the Conservative voters energized to vote for him.”

I’m not willing to light my hair on fire to support this culture of death Republican.

Palin would energize the convention like no one else could. I believe that she would go a long way also with women and independents. (despite what the LSM keeps telling us)

Romney doesn’t agree with you. He intends to lose.

Sarah Palin is intelligent, caring and real. She leads by example and if her prescriptions for energy independence, free market principles and less government were followed, the country would be on a path to recovery. It would be to the detriment of the GOP and Romney if she is not given a role in Tampa.

My friend. They have expelled us. Time to move on without the quislings.

I disagree.

The elections are becoming closer. Our side is sending US jobs to China - increasing unemployment here, which wins votes for DEMOCRATS.

The GOP needs everything to win this election, and bring BACK American jobs. Right away.

Or the GOP will cease to exist.

That’s just a fact. The GOP is on it’s last legs right now.

The RINOS lost in 1936, 1940, 1944, 1948, 1960, etc. There's a really long history of this.

They are a small faction inside the Republican party but it has come time for us to rise up and expel them.

Palin’s speech at the 2008 convention was one of the best I’ve ever heard. I despise the GOP-E.

If the current losership and nominee are the best GOP has to offer, I’m totally fine with its demise. Maybe in its place we will get a party that actually stands on its core principles and refuses to nominate gun grabbing socialist political charlatans.

Good. Because I sure as shootin’ am NOT going to vote for the myth, Romney. I’ll write in Palin, Jones, Smith, Mickey Mouse...before I’ll ever cast a vote for the frickin fraud-Romney.

Why would a liberal want a conservative to give a speech at his coronation?

Uummm....Ok Rommey is the nominee does it really matter whether Palin speaks or not? What would be the point with Mitt has the headliner. What could she possibly say that would make this a better situtation? Nobody is going to be watching this either way.

It would be like Ozzy giving a speech before Justin Bieber is accepted into the Rock-N-Roll Hall Of Shame. Which will probably happen before Deep Purple, Rush, Lynyrd Skynyrd, etc... get in.

That’s just a fact. The GOP is on it’s last legs right now.

I say let 'em fall. Time for a new party, and one WILL be coming along within the next few years, whether the GOP-E likes it or not. Our political system is reaching a point where, as a complex system, it will have enough energy injected into it to begin bifurcating like a chaotic system, and we're going to see our system drop over to a new strange attractor. Bet on it.

Further, it's numerically about time for another huge shift in our political system. ~90 years ago, we saw the Great Depression and the start of the New Deal. ~70 before that, the end of slavery and the civil war. ~50 years before that, the collapse of the Federalists and the beginning of the Era of Good Feelings and Democratic-Republican dominance for two decades. ~30 before that, the Revolution. ~10 years before that, the first serious colonial independence movements resulting from the Stamp Act, etc., after the end of the French and Indian War.

10-30-50-70-90. There's a pattern there, and we're nearing the end of the 90 year period for this cycle. Every other time, there have been huge dislocations, socially and politically, and in many cases, at least one of the major political parties has collapsed, or nearly done so, before being replaced and things renormalising a few elections later. We are on the cusp of major dislocations due to the massive debt, economic problems, and constitutional crises that Obama is forcing. Don't be surprised if the GOP simply collapses within a few years. Be ready to hop on board to build its replacement - while shutting out all of the present power brokers, brown nosers, and the rest in the current GOP.

We are being spat upon and laughed at by the GOP. They shoved the feckless Romney on us and care nothing for our values. Why? Because too many of us will STILL march into the voting booth and vote for who they tell us.
