Romney’s Palin Problem: Where’s Her Convention Invite? (Advisor: she will be prohibited to speak)
Newsweek ^ | Sunday July 15, 2012 | Peter Boyle

Posted on 07/15/2012 6:34:16 PM PDT by Bigtigermike

[T]he Romney campaign has not asked Palin to speak at the convention nor contacted her about even attending the party’s marquee event in Tampa. Queries to the Romney camp about any possible Palin role at the convention meet with a stony silence. Palin does not seem surprised. “What can I say?” she responded in an email from Alaska, when asked by Newsweek about the convention, just before heading to Michigan to deliver an Obama-thumping speech. “I’m sure I’m not the only one accepting consequences for calling out both sides of the aisle for spending too much money, putting us on the road to bankruptcy, and engaging in crony capitalism.”

Romney was the choice of the party’s elites, whom Palin has regarded with open disdain ever since her rough treatment during the 2008 campaign. They are some of the same people who anonymously disparaged Palin as a clueless bumpkin, and some of them are now helping to run Romney’s campaign. When unnamed Romney aides tell reporters that Romney will likely go with a “safe” choice for vice president because of the 2008 “disaster,” Palin notices.

[....]

The Romney camp will not comment on Palin, or on plans for the convention, but one adviser associated with the campaign suggested that Palin would be prohibited from speaking at the Republican convention by her contract with Fox News. “It’s true I’m prohibited from doing some things,” Palin says, “but this is the first I’ve heard anyone suggest that as an excuse, er, reason to stay away from engaging in the presidential race. I’m quite confident Fox’s top brass would never strip anyone of their First Amendment rights in this regard.” (Fox says her contract would not prohibit speaking at the convention if she sought permission.)

Team Romney has decided that banning Sarah Palin from the convention is going to make Mitt more appealing to independents and have decided to dare conservatives to stay home on election day if we don’t like it.

And Romney’s re-hiring of Kevin Madden, the Palin-hating, Troopergate smear peddler of the 2008 convention to replace Eric Fenstrohm was sending her a message that she is not welcome at this year’s convention.

That’s why she returned Newsweak’s email and responded to this story and Romney is going to regret banning her.

Newsweak says: “Let’s you and him fight” LOL!

Not a bad response from Gov. Palin.

No disagreement, but I’d rather have him than the Moslem Commie.

A RNC convention without Palin speaking not worth watching.
Will it be a parade of RINO’s I wonder.

Romney’s not very smart if he doesn’t invite Palin to speak. Regardless his opinion of her, a sizeable, passionate portion of the base thinks very highly of her (and not much of him). Just good politics to have her there speaking and supporting him.

Would a person being nominated for VP be asked ahead of time to speak....Now that would be a surprise.

You might want to rethink the idea that Newsweak is actually interested in reporting the news......

I haven't got my invite to speak yet, either.

I'm sure it's just an oversight.

Everybody's busy and all.

Absolutely correct. He better be in this to win as the future of real American Citizens are dependent on that outcome.

The last of the article indicates the same thing as you.

Palin’s admirers—and they are many, judging by Facebook and Twitter metrics, where her numbers are far greater than Romney’s—still hope for a rapprochement. “Palin is the female Ronald Reagan of our time,” says Kremer of the Tea Party Express. “There’s no one that excites the base, and energizes the base, the way that Sarah Palin does. There’s just not.”

Despite the risks, Team Romney may be well advised to consider bringing Palin inside the tent. Whether she’s in Tampa for the convention or not, she will be out there somewhere, and talking
.

Damn right she will be.

Willard better get over himself and start making some smart moves.

She’s vetted...Mitt would turn her loose in MI unlike mc Cane. Can’t think of anything that would unite the party as much.

This is a parade of RINOS. 1st. Why would She want to speak there? Romney is a RINO, She is a Conservative. We conservatives do not need rinos, they need us. Romney only gets the vote of conservatives because they are voting against Obama.

I say nothing positive about Romney, I speak negative about zer0.

Well RINOS do the same to Conservatives.

I agree but Peter Boyer of Newsweek and Palin has a good relationship and she wouldn’t have responded to him in a email if she didn’t trust him but regardless - there should be no silence in about inviting the last vice presidential candidate whether they want to participate or not - none whatsoever

Sarah knows that Romney and his cronies have been trashing her since 2008..she knows the deal, that is why she hasn’t come out and fully endorsed him. She says “ABO” which is like saying even a drunk hobo is better than Obama, that isn’t a really rousing endorsement of Romney, because she knows what a slimeball Romney is. We all know it, its like voting for the lesser of two evils, either an arrogant prick or an evil Communist. Palin can speak, and if she isn’t invited to speak that will be a slap in the face to millions of Conservatives. We already know what Romney thinks of us but that would pretty much seal the deal

The MAIN reason we lost the 2008 election was McCAIN but establishment RINOs just cannot see that as a possiblilty. Palin blew Biden away in the debates. McCain...was good at one debate but the rest put me to sleep where he acted like he needed to be.

Without Palin in 2008, I could not have endured the convention to the election.
