When I was in the fifth grade I was chosen to be the MC of a talent show at school.
No less than five entries sang that song. After the last one I said, “Wow, after 2500 miles from home we should be close to NY by now”.

I love Stephen Foster, my daddy used to sing “I dream of Jeanie” to me when I was a wee child.
You see how I resisted making an Obama joke? It took will power, but I did it.
It was a cool song. There is video of him singing it as an old man. Not so good. The basic song has been done by a lot of people. But I think he has the best version.
