This may sound a little out of left field, but have you ever been checked out for sleep apnea?

It is “a sleep disorder characterized by abnormal pauses in breathing or instances of abnormally low breathing, during sleep. Each pause in breathing, called an apnea, can last from a few seconds to minutes, and may occur 5 to 30 times or more an hour.”

“Regardless of type, an individual with sleep apnea is rarely aware of having difficulty breathing, even upon awakening. Sleep apnea is recognized as a problem by others witnessing the individual during episodes.”

“Sleep apnea should be considered a dangerous condition, which may lead to congestive heart failure and other pulmonary disease, as well as other complications of hypoxia.”

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2823279/

Patients with sleep apnea can report intense nightmares on waking from apneic events. Anecdotal examples from the author’s sleep medicine practice include:

“I am buried under the sand and fighting my way to a surface that I can’t seem to reach. I wake gasping for air.”

“I’m deep under water that is getting darker and darker. I’m holding my breath, but I can’t any longer. As I breathe in water, I try to scream, but there’s no sound. I wake up in a sweat.”

I heard Michael Baden tell Geraldo this AM that it usually takes less than 30 seconds to become unconscious during a hanging when the spinal cord is not broken. There just isn’t that much time for second thoughts.

I'm no expert, but don't Catholics have some specific concerns about suicide and where a person who has committed suicide can be buried?

What’s the pension plan like for grammar police?

Cute. The problem is that many Freepers NEED a lot of help with their spelling.

Note my tagline. I am convinced that these two words "it's" and "its" are the most misspelled words in the English language. I rarely see the spellings properly applied by people on Free Republic. Professional writers, I have noticed, almost always spell these words correctly but readers simply don't pay enough attention to learn.

Why? To live up to someone’s perfect standard? This isn’t college exposition. It’s about communication, however imperfect.

I know in the olden days, a suicide could not be buried in a church cemetery. They could only be buried in unhallowed ground. I don't know how the church deals with it today. Maybe someone else knows.

From http://www.catholic.org/encyclopedia/view.php?id=2279:

Further, Christian burial is to be refused to suicides (this prohibition is as old as the fourth century; cf. Cassian in P.L., XL, 573) except in case that the act was committed when they were of unsound mind or unless they showed signs of repentance before death occurred.

I just did a quick search and can't comment on whether that is present church doctrine.

It's interesting to contemplate that the unusual circumstances of the lady's fingers might constitute a "sign of repentance". It was certainly a sad way to end one's life.

Isn't it strange that a woman who had a drinking problem and relied on anti-depressants chose to hang herself? She could have just as easily taken an overdose. Years ago when I was working on an Associates in Criminal Justice, one of the courses I took dealt with suicide. Back then, statistics showed that the majority of woman who chose to commit suicide, did so by overdose because they didn't want to damage their looks by hanging or shooting themselves in the head. It was also the least violent way to go since you simply went to sleep and didn't wake up.

I’ll be 65 soon, and the best thing I’ve learned is that you can make mistakes and blame it on old age. Works every time for me :-)

I wouldn’t include ALL of the Kennedys regarding your assessment. Although it’s true Joseph Kennedy, Jr. died on an airplane, he did so as a Navy officer during WWII when his plane exploded while on a mission. He was eligible to return home, but volunteered for this dangerous job. What a tragedy and loss for the Kennedy family, regardless of politics. Reading this hero’s bio brought a tear to my eye.

John-John Kennedy killed 2 women at one time.

How, by blowing the tail off his own plane, and arranging for Teddy to have the Navy search for the debris and keep it secret, so Hillary could run without being challenged by him?

...if a poster's feelings are hurt by being corrected in an anonymous forum ... well, then he or she needs to grow a thicker skin. I don't correct anyone's grammar. But some grammatical errors are just too dumb to tolerate. The apostrophe abuse committed by writing the word "Kennedy's," for example, where a simple plural was indicated, is one such error.

Good morning. Good to see your moniker.

I wasn't speaking of Joseph Kennedy, Jr, regarding "can't fly." I was speaking of John Kennedy Jr.

As you stated, Joseph died a hero.

No, it’s about building confidence in what one is saying in the eyes of readers by not appearing ignorant of one’s native language.

You surely have read works by professional writers and they have immediately lost credibility in your eyes when they use substandard language. That’s what I am talking about.
