My wife and I were just stopped in I-93 in north-central NH by Immigrations and Customs Enforcement agents. All cars were stopped, and the officer stuck his head in my window, much as they do at DUI checkpoints. He then looked around the car, and asked us if we were US citizens. We answered in the affirmative and he then asked for our ID's. What has happened to this country when we can be harassed by ICE but the actual illegal immigrants cannot?
Oh, yes.
Lots of English-speaking Mexicans coming across the Canadian border into New Hampshire.
/SARC
I think the government is punishing New Hamphire for something.
Don’t know what, though.
You should have said “No habla Ingles” and he would have tipped his hat and said “Vaya con Dios - Have a nice day. Remember to vote in November!”
There is another thread about a terrorist threat for a tunnel from Detroit to Canada today, so possibly they are checking for potential related activities.
NH? Sure.
But lets close six BP offices in Texas.
Right.
If they were serious about Illegal Emigrants, they would head south about 75 miles and set up shop on rt28 in Lawrence Mass.
The agent “stuck his head” inside your car window?
How?
If his head is 2 inches wide he may have gotten it in my window otherwise not so much........
You produced ID for him? Why? Was he citing you for some traffic violation? Investigating some criminal offense? No? Then sorry no ID.....
Its called Socialism/Communism, just wait until you have to show your papers at the road blocks to go from one county to the next and explain why you are going etc.etc. and don’t think it can’t happen here, take a look at history. Others thought the same and paid the price. I am not talking about you but the country as a whole.
That was my first thought as well...sounds a bit like the traffic stops around Atlanta a few months ago. As I recall, every truck on I-20 was being stopped and searched (during rush hour), and more than a few were being scanned by some sort of radiation detector. ICE was out there, along with the FBI and state and local law enforcement. Not to worry, we were told. It was just a “training exercise.” Expect a similar explanation for the stops in NH.
> Oh yeah? Well, how ‘bout all of them French speaking
> Quebecers? How about them?
LOL!!
You know, when Jimmah Carter established the Department of Education, the newly created Cabinet offered government money for bilingual education programs.
So, Governeor Meldrim Thompson of NH, seeing that 20% of the state at the time was French-speaking, applied for funds to establish a bilingual French/English program.
The new Dept of Education said that French/English did not qualify for the bilingual federal grants.
At the time, the number of Spanish-speaking folks in NH constituted less than 1% of the population. Yet, if the NH schools wanted the Federal grants, they would have to create Spanish/English bilingual programs, regardless of how useless they would be.
The NH governor declined, and NH was not eligible for Federal funds until Reagan was elected and removed the requirement.
Of course, what Reagan SHOULD have done was to ELIMINATE the Department of Education altogether and get the FedGov OUT of the government schools.
Didn't the legislature just pass Voter ID? I know it was being discussed, but I can't recall the circumstances...
I’ve crossed the border at Derby Line,VT a few times in the last year or so.Driving south on I-91 after having done so I’ve seen Border Patrol vehicles a few times.Never been stopped by one however.
I like bullet point #1 on that checklist.
“You have the right to remain silent. If you wish to exercise that right, say so out loud.”
?????
Didn't the legislature just pass Voter ID? I know it was being discussed, but I can't recall the circumstances...
You know, you're right.Just a couple of weeks ago both houses of the New Hampshire Legislature voted to override the RAT Governor's veto of a voter ID bill.
Here's the fed blowback.
It is called security theater: The same reason the TSA pats down nuns, makes a crippled boy give up his leg braces before passing through the metal detector and makes an elderly woman remove her briefs. But if you are the right kind of Muslim, you can pass through in a bur-qua.
There is a need to teach the uppity American people that they are subjects and not citizens.
How about starting in the Mayor’s office in Lawrence!?
Though typically, federal officers cannot demand identity papers, there is a bizarre twist, here.
In a US Customs jurisdictional area, many US civil rights are suspended. The weirdness is that these jurisdictional areas are *not* just the border stations, but can extend 50 miles(?) inland from any US border.
This gives ICE the authority to set up checkpoints and demand ID cards even though you haven’t crossed the border. Just that you are within 50(?) miles from it.
Most recently this came to light when there was an effort to outlaw many types of folding and switchblade knives, “within the jurisdiction of the US Customs and Border Patrol”.
They weren’t able to sneak this past the “knife rights” people who came down on this like a ton of bricks.
They’re just conditioning us to internal checkpoints just like the Soviets. Pretty soon, we’ll have to have internal passports to move around or relocate.
Wouldn’t be a bad idea if we could count on it keeping liberals from the left coast or the NE out.
But, somehow, I think they’ll look at a county like ours, that is 95% white, and relocate minorities in here to ‘balance things out’.
As motivated by that viral video from AZ....
“I’m on about my business and Obama doesn’t have the time or resources to staff the Mexican border, to protect against illegal entry.”
“So, why are you here in the heartland, harassing people without probable cause?”
They can do this in NH (far from Mexico), but they can’t in AZ? It must be zero’s people trying to show the American sheeple “what it’s like”, just to get them riled up against ID checks.
They were signing up illegals for Medicaid and food stamps.
> Think of the ‘80s Senate : Lowell Weicker, Bob Packwood,
> Pete Wilson, Frank Murkowski, Paula Hawkins, Warren Rudman,
> John Warner, Alan Simpson, Nancy Kassebaum, etc.
A veritable barf-o-rama.
But couldn’t Reagan have eliminated the cabinet department without Congress? After all, “the cabinet” is not constitutionally defined or required, right?
If something is not done soon it will be irreversible.
Every day another law another regulation (especially from the EPA) and we keep bending over a little more.
There are even some Freepers who see no problem with these internal checkpoints.
We should be very vigilant especially when we give any LEO power over us. History proves government power and intrusion ALWAYS increases. Sometimes the people get fed up and revolt. Unfortunately most times they just baaaah at each other and wait to be sheered.
It doesn’t take the newbie BP agents long to discover that VT has no gun laws to speak of; once they learn everybody’s armed up in the Northeast Kingdom, they tend to stop acting like asshats with a badge.
Since when do you have to prove your an American? There was a youtube with one of these stops posted just a couple days ago on FR. The guy was stopped like three times one day and told them politely that he didn’t have to show his papers. Each time they hassled him but eventually let him go on his way.

At least 50 Miles South of the Canidian Border.
There was a thread on FR back around March (?) discussing a government order for bullet proof checkpoint booths. Looks like the order came through and they’re trying them out. Expect more of these and it won’t be ICE manning them.
I’m about to move to Anne Arundel County. Is it also crazy?
Yes...when close to the District. Also, when there are majority libs. Good luck. I lived in MD for thirty years. They tax anything that moves and doesn’t. When we sold our house (Thank God) we had to pay a 3 1/2 percent state “transfer tax” on the sale price. Kind of like having to pay a government fee to leave a carribean island. The approximately $20,000 the state extorted from me was worth it. I got to leave that liberal moonbat hellhole. Utah is sooooooooooooooooooooooooo much better.
Nah, we’re in Odenton—I’ll be stationed at Fort Meade. We’re just renting. We were considering buying, but it sounds like it’s more trouble than it’s worth, especially if we wanted to sell.
I’d say What’s the point of looking at ID, you don’t deport anyone anymore if you find an illegal alien.
Already happening.
Many of us in my formerly 99% white county have noticed an influx of blacks. No one knew a thing. Finally, someone with connections told me that the social workers in Milwaukee and Madison are telling single mothers that if they are looking for a *safer environment for the children*, they should come out here. Many are referred to La Crosse and are settled in a area that is predominately Hmong. Needless to add, there are now gang conflicts there between the Hmong and the blacks.
Doesn’t look like the officers were being asked to determine who to stop and not stop...it was being equally applied to all travellers on the same road. I don’t see why this is being compared to AZ?
Working in the type of arena right now, it’s the ‘arbirary’ that can get one in trouble.
***************
Ah, I see we have some locals around here! Somebody who knows the roads! Cool!
I noticed that the big new Market Basket supermarket in Salem, N.H. (further north along Rt. 28) has an entire aisle set aside for Goya products. Nothing but Goya.
I live within sight of Lowell and krogers58 is right. Lowell would be deserted after an ICE sweep, too!
there’s always a cop stop south of 83 on 91 in the middle of nowhere in VT...in the middle of the night...spooky.
