The independent report by Louis Freeh and his law firm, Freeh Sporkin & Sullivan, LLP, into the facts and circumstances of the actions of The Pennsylvania State University surrounding the child sexual abuse committed by a former employee, Gerald A. I'm not arguing that Sandusky is not a criminal. But you seem to be arguing that he is the ONLY one.
I disagree.
Lots of friends of Jerry Sandusky claim they didn’t know. His family, too. They need to go to prison, too? As a mother and wife, I’ve wondered how Mrs. Sandusky could have possibly NOT known what was going on in her own home.
Look, don’t think that I am defending, any any way, Jerry Sandusky. He molested MANY children and for that he was found guilty and will, rightfully, probably spend the rest of his life in prison. I am truly sickened at the thought of that individual touching ANY child.
So, poor Joe Pa "can't defend himself"? Seems to me, then, that that puts him pretty much in the same position as that boy who was being sodomized in shower in a Penn State facility.
Surely, the boy warrants a bit more sympathy than Joe Paterno, at this point? Unless, that is, you think that the boy should have just "taken one for the team"?
Should you ever tire of embracing the cult of Penn State football, might I perhaps suggest an alternative? Say, Scientology?

Sorry swpa_mom, but the evidence in mounting that JoePa knew of at least some of the sexual activity Sandusky had with CHILDREN, and decided to do precious little about it. If the email release from last week is accurate, he ACTIVELY talked other folks at Penn State out of going to the cops.
I’m sorry, but having a false “perfect” image of someone does a disservice to all those who suffered due to JoePa’s inactivity and PRO-ACTIVE intervention in keep the police out of this, to save the image of Penn State.
And no, this is not simply “his or her fault” it’s THEIR fault. MULTIPLE people. There are sins of commision AND omission. There are also laws against a coverup, which is what was going on here. And when the subject of the coverup is allowed free reign to rape boys IN THE PENN STATE FACILITIES, even after incidents were brought to light over the years, then that says A LOT.
If you don’t want to hear about it, and understand how your attitude can allow thing like this to happen, then I”m sure you can find and join a group of teens ready to turn over some cars and light some fires over this as well.
Most on campus knew it. An ice cream shop even had the Sandusky Cake with the nuts on the bottom.

The report says he was hired back, after his "retirement" as an "emergency" move.
Wonder what that was about? Maybe he threatened to expose somebody else?
Nah, not likely. Would mean self-incrimination.
Do you think other universities knew of his doings and STILL kept quiet?
If a man fails to perform this most basic duty, then he fails as a man. Case closed.
Paterno failed as a man. There can be no other conclusion made.
I understand you're a woman. So why are you excusing/rationalizing/minimizing the inaction of a man (Paterno) who failed to perform his moral duty to protect children?

Coaches are a fairly tight fraternity, I think they all knew that there was something about Sandusky that kept them away from him.
Not necessarily, and it was a mistake for me to say "all your friends" in my analogy. But I believe that there were friends who enabled this.

I don't think that. You've made it clear that you think he's guilty.
My only point is that he's not the only one who's guilty, and possibly Saint Joe is guilty, and we shouldn't close the book simply because Sandusky is in jail.
I played golf with Sandusky five times in 15 years while contributing to his fund.
I interviewed Joe about 10 times during that time.
I never saw this coming.
Sandusky told me he didn't take another football head coaching job because his roots would always be in State College. I think we now know why he didn't move.
This doesn't go on as long as it did without some very powerful people protecting Sandusky.

There were rumors and I am sure people heard them.
With child molesters however, people won’t admit to hearing the rumors.
For instance when the Tiger Wood’s story broke everyone in the media or golf and sports social network claimed to have prior knowledge or knew first hand. They just kept the stories “in house”.
Paterno was complicit. He should be rightly attacked for his extreme negligence. His legacy should be dismantled.
Read the report. It sums up what any sane person thought when this all went down. It was a cover-up at the highest levels of Penn State... a cover up instituted to protect Penn State’s untouchable “culture” and it’s precious revenue stream.
Who cares about some disposable kids? Certainly not Joe Paterno.
Yet many in the Penn St. administration knew what was going on, and chose to remain silent. People very high up in the food chain in Happy Valley. That includes Joe Pa. This is his legacy. He condoned a serial child molester’s behavior, on and off campus.
Don’t confuse the poor lass with facts.
I know you jopa worshippers have a hard time grasping that fact.
Sandusky would have been in prison long before if JoPa had done what any decent man would have done, turn him in to the police.
The football program came first.
