Could It Be Condi for VP?
The Rush Limbaugh Program ^ | 11 July 2011 | Rush Limbaugh

BEGIN TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: I've been thinking about something. There's a story I had in the Stack. I didn't get to this yesterday. It's a Reuters story, "Romney May Name Running Mate Early in Election Race." There have been names floating on this. There's Bob Portman in Ohio. There's Marco Rubio, who continually says it isn't gonna be him. Bobby Jindal. Governor Christie -- who may be talking himself out of it, if he was in there, but he's openly said that he would take it.

Well, he's openly said that he would seriously consider it. There are a number of names. Tim Pawlenty is considered one of the front-runners. So today Romney goes to the NAALCP convention. One of the names that is also on this list that shows up now and then but not in every story about it, is Condoleezza Rice. Now, I don't have any idea who Romney's gonna choose, but when I saw this story yesterday, "Romney May Name Running Mate Early in Election Race," I thought, "Why?"

This is awful early to name a VP.

Of course, the Reuters headline says "may name." But it's a fairly lengthy story about what the advantages in doing so could be, and they list the people that are possible. It mentions here, "Romney is also considering whether to name a woman, his wife, Ann, said." To the team of people that would select a running mate. And I've seen Condoleezza Rice's name mentioned off and on. Here goes Romney to the NAALCP. What are the odds that he would pick Condoleezza Rice next week, coming off of this speech to the NAALCP?

(interruption)

You think zero? Why?

(interruption)

Well, they all say they'll never do it! They all say they'll never do it. Every one of these people is saying that. Well, except Chris Christie. Paul Ryan's name is mention, and a lot of people look favorably at Paul Ryan. But, Rubio, for example, says, "There's no way I'm gonna do it!" They all say this. But then if they get the call, then this sense of duty overtakes them.

(interruption)

What if I got the call? (laughing) I'd ask, "Are you sane?" You know what my answer would be? "I'm not gonna take the pay cut." But I'm just not oriented towards that. I'm not diplomatic enough to be in government in any way, shape, manner, or form. You remember who was the head of Obama's selection team? It was Caroline Kennedy. Yeah, it was. She was right in there. But you watch the reaction that regime will have no matter who Romney picks. No matter who he picks, the criticism is going to be profound.

Of course, when Obama chose Biden, there was no criticism. He chose a lunatic. He chose a plagiarist. And now the guy, Biden, is out there telling sex jokes. Did you hear about this? I think we've got it in the Stack here. Biden. Who was he talking to? Was it an Hispanic group? He was talking to some group of people about how small the house was where he grew up and how thin the walls were and how his parents managed to "get away with it" nevertheless.

I kid you not. (laughing) Honestly! It was La Raza. Biden was talking to La Raza. He said (paraphrased), "We had all the ingredients: Small room, thin walls. You know, just like you." We do have the sound bite. Somebody tell me what number it is. I know it's there. Yeah, number eleven. Here it is. This is yesterday Las Vegas at the National Council of La Raza Luncheon.

BIDEN: I was raised in a... No Horatio Alger story, a normal story. A three-bedroom house, split level, in a new development, in the mid-fifties in Delaware. Those walls were awful thin. I wonder how the hell my parents did it, but that's a different story.

AUDIENCE: (laughter)

BIDEN: I know you don't know anything about that!

AUDIENCE: (laughter)

BIDEN: I know none of you in your families have done the same thing!

RUSH: So here he is talking to the Hispanics saying (paraphrased), "Look, I grew up just like you did: A whole bunch of people in a cheap house with thin walls, and I don't know how my parents did it. I know none of you in your families have done the same thing." He's trying to share a commonality with 'em. (interruption) Snerdley, a lot of people think about their parents doing it, and they can't visualize it. But nobody talks about it! Certainly not vice presidents!

They don't go to groups, particularly La Raza, and say, "Yeah, yeah, yeah! Remember the car you came here in? Well, it's like the house you lived in. Well, it was the same for me, and I tell you: All of us were packed in there like sardines and the walls were very thin, and I don't know how my parents got away with it!" You know, if Romney chooses Condoleezza Rice, we're not gonna get anything like that from her as vice president. I was at the Horatio Alger dinner where she was inducted into the society a couple years ago.

People remain confused. This election will be about “anybody but Obama”. It has nothing to do with anything else. It doesn’t matter if the candidates on the other side are Daffy Duck and Goofy.

We don’t need a concert pianist (much funner to say than to type...go ahead - say peeanist...doesn’t that make you giggle just a little?) in the Naval Observatory. We need a foreign expert. Although not a ticket draw, if anyone from DoS would be great as the VPOTUS, Bolton would be my pick.

I hope not. Mitt needs to pick someone who is both acceptiable to a broad range of GOP voters, and also viable as a potential candidate 8 years from now if he wins. That’s not Condi. Someone like Paul Ryan would fit the bill nicely.

For crying out loud!
Enough with the Condi Rice for VP!

Why would she make a good candidate for VP?
Because she has black skin?
Because she is a female?
Those are her only qualifications.

She certainly has never displayed the ability to handle executive responsibilities at a high level.

This woman is no more competent than Joe Biden.
She was no better as Sec. State than Hillary Clinton or Madeline Albright.

Leave her in academia where she can do no more harm at the national level.

Romney has enough money he can run negative ads on prime time TV simultaneously over the whole country.

He figures he can win without the help of the Republican party's Conservative base.

No one under 35 watches TV regularly ~

As said above, it is irrelevant who he picks since we must replace Obama never the less.

But, I think that Condi, as appealing, experienced and smart as she is, is pro abortion so that would be a problem for some like me who are strongly against baby killing. (If we were not up against an existential catastrophe with Obama in office, I would never vote for a ticket with a pro abort).

Also, my admiration for Condi dropped off after reading this article in the WSJ:

Anyone But Condi
A tempting but unwise choice for Romney’s vice president./April 30, 2012

Condi is a smart lady and I would love to see her back in government, but I don’t think she’s the right match for Romney because she is too closely tied with Bush.

The Democrats would go crazy with that.

Of course there is no proof of that. Above is her endorsement of Ben Quayle - wherein she attacks a “narrative of aggrievement and entitlement that is becoming pervasive in our nation.” Sure doesn’t sound like an Obama supporter to me.

Why would Rush take up airtime with this stupid suggestion? Condi has said many times that she wouldn’t take it and wants to be football commish. :-)

Morris revealed tonight that Mittens picked Rubio six months ago. So if Dickie boy says so..of course it’s true..or 20% likely to be anyway.

Who cares who he picks? The joke is that we KNOW that they choose for poltical expediency: ethnic or geographical weaknesses being the determiner.

I’m depresssed after listening to Jerry Doyle today who says that there isn’t a bat’s chance in h#ll of the GOP repealing Obamster-care...

As for Rush, he is all over the place lately and for the last year, I sense that he isn’t well prepared and has to play catch up with Bam’s moves..like he is just slightly behind the eight ball and playing perennial defense.
As one Freeper suggested, he seems to get all of his news from Drudge. I wouldn’t know as I left Matt when he performed his slobbering Romney love fest.

This morning, I became pretty certain that it IS Condi, and that the groundwork is already being laid for the pick. Condi has always seemed somewhat apolitical, but all of a sudden, this morning, I got an email from a group called ShePAC that had a big picture of Condi with the following text:

Friend,

2012 is perhaps a turning point for the United States. The upcoming elections loom as one of the most important in my lifetime. I'm very often asked to speak about our current foreign policy and the challenges that lie before us. However, we, as a country, are not going to be able to address any of those international challenges unless we first get our domestic house in order. We have some big domestic issues right now, and the American people know it.

I'm writing you today because conservative women can greatly influence the outcomes of these elections. And our conservative women candidates are amongst those best poised to address the challenges that we face.

On June 25th I traveled to Washington and was honored to join with ShePAC, a new group that is working to Support, Honor & Elect conservative women, to talk about these ideals. There, I met with a diverse group of bold women who are stepping up and entering the political arena to fight for our conservative principals.

I was incredibly impressed with this group of women and their convictions. The group was unified in their belief in our country yet diverse in their experiences and backgrounds—amongst them, ranchers, attorneys, military veterans, home makers, intelligence officers, broadcasters, small business owners, legislators and mayors.

As a little girl growing up in Birmingham, Alabama during a time of great crisis, my parents empowered me to break stereotypes and reach for the stars—they were convinced that I could reach the ultimate heights in life. This is the vision of these women as well.

The United States of America has a way of making the impossible seem inevitable in retrospect and we are going to do it again. We will confront our challenges head on and we will foster solutions to give the generations after us the same opportunities that all Americans have had. We must continue to strengthen ourselves, our democracy at home, and strengthen our economy.

I hope you too will support ShePAC and help these bold women as they seek election to Congress. Our help is needed in order to make a lasting impact on this election and for our country. Please help ShePAC elect the candidates that I know will make this happen.

Many thanks,

Condoleezza Rice
