Riiiight. That’s why the Romney Republicans in the Senate were pushing a GOP version of the Dream Act just a few weeks back.
This current belief that people brought here illegally while young are entitled to some more ‘fair’ treatment is ridiculous.
This is similar to parent bank robbers or thieves who have children that are allowed to reap the money and objects of their criminal behavior.

I keep hearing stories about how illegals who have served in the U.S. military should be given amnesty. I call B.S.. How can an illegal alien without a valid social security number enlist in the military in the first place? As far as I know only legal resident aliens (with “green” cards) can enlist.

Some how I would rather not give gang members a way into our country, access to our weapons and our training. As long as American Citizens want to serve to protect the country, they should have the opportunity to do so. We don’t need a Foreign Legion.
Besides, the dems will demand that college be another way they can legally be allowed to stay in our country. The dems will agree to military service if the republicans agree to college attendance. The RINOs will say fine and the dems will happily vote for what they’ve always wanted — the same Dream Act they tried to pass before.

That could be the unspoken suggested policy. You have to first get a green card. Or putting it another way go back to your home company and wait in line to get a green card. If you join the military you may be on a faster track toward citizenship. I don’t think there will many illegals that will take Romney on this.

Illegal aliens can’t enlist, unless they’re using a fraudulent SSN and don’t get caught doing so. Which is likely very difficult, considering all the paperwork and forms we had to fill out when first going through MEPS and all.
Not likely he’ll get a core of janissaries through Congress. Of course obama got the jizya through Congress. That’s a tax kafir’s (us) pay but the ulema (observant moslems) do not have to pay. So even more of that nonsense is possible ~ which is why I keep pointing out we can resurrect the custom of forcing allies to pay us tribute for the services provided by our military abroad!

Anyone, anywhere, of any nationality can already become a US citizen by serving in the US military.
We had a German national walk on our installation once and begin the process of joining the US military. That was in Germany.
So, if we had a Mexican national come onto a US installation in Mexico, which doesn’t exist, and ask to join the US military, I’d be open to listening.
However, why not let Arabic speaking illegal aliens become citizens just by joining our military. I’m sure that would make barracks living fun during live range weeks, and I’d have no problem with providing wartime training to illegal alien arabs.

Hasn’t there been a system for decades if not centuries where foreigners of friendly countries could and did have the ability to volunteer for the US armed services, getting an express road to citizenship in the process?
This isn’t qualitatively that much different from a judge telling a petty troublemaking American citizen to join the Marines or go to jail.
Mitt has a lot of bad faults but this plan isn’t on the level of Obama’s gay Marines.

BTW, whatever standards were in place decades ago in WWII have been revised. I do know an individual who escaped Nederland by swimming out into the North Sea where he was picked up by a Brit boat then taken the US as a teenage refugee. He was then drafted into the USArmy Air Corps, then ended up doing his service on the Hump in the Pacific.
He returned home to Enschede after the war.
His entry into the USA was quite lawful.
