Attorney General Eric Holder on Tuesday compared the new Texas voter ID law to the post-slavery efforts to keep blacks from voting known as a “poll taxes.”

The law was passed last year by the GOP-led state legislature, then signed by Gov. Rick Perry, in an effort to curb voter fraud.

In a speech at the annual NAACP conference, in Houston, Holder said many voters would have to travel “great distances” to get a government-issued photo ID and that some would “struggle” to pay for the requisite paperwork.

“We call these poll taxes,” Holder said.

He also said the Texas law hurts minorities and that politics is the driving force behind the issue.

Holder called Texas the “center of our national debate” on voting rights issues and vowed the Justice Department would “aggressively” fight to enforce those rights.

I usually compare Holder to your everyday common criminal.

What party favored those?

Keep flaming the race war flames with your BS, withHolder. Most blacks I know are as sick of it as I am. But then I don’t associate with racists of any color (which means I wouldn’t associate with you).

I wonder if Holder knows that the first Gun Control Laws were implemented to restrict Blacks from owning Firearms to protect themselves from the Klan?

I see where they are going with this.

The 24th amendment bans poll taxes.

So, they may argue in court that, because there are fees to pay to get an ID, and that if an ID is needed to vote, thus, the fee for the ID is a poll tax.

Not saying I agree with that stretch of logic, far from it. But I bet that is where they are going with this.

In that case, any costs associated with voting, such as the gas you paid to put in your car to drive to the polling place, would be considered a poll tax.

I am sure there are some liberal judges out there, who would agree with this crazy reasoning, once it gets to court.

The Democrats enforced Poll Taxes to make sure eligible people could not vote.

The Republicans want to enforce Voter ID to make sure ONLY eligible people vote.

Of course, Holder is a Democrat.

As compared to the individual mandate which IS a life/poll tax!

It is true that some people do not have IDs, and that a higher proportion of those people are black than the population as a whole. But the problem is not that they can't vote without an ID, it is that they don't have an ID in the first place. People have to have an ID to get jobs, to get credit, to fly on an airplane, get a library card, to listen to Holder's dumb speeches. It takes an ID to get through life these days. So why does Holder want black people to be blocked out of the mainstream of society and keep them on the margin?

In the early days of the NAACP, one of the organization's main missions was to get blacks registered to vote. This consisted of not only of fighting poll tax laws, but to actually go out and get blacks to register. The NAACP can be doing the same thing today, going out and making sure blacks have IDs, rather than sitting around listening to Holder. It would be a more productive use of their time. No one would stop them from having a drive to get people the proper ID, so that those people can participate more fully as citizens.

“He also said the Texas law hurts minorities and that politics is the driving force behind the issue.”

Eric, when Black Panthers threaten voters and say things like ‘your about to be ruled by a black man’ you do nothing - and claim that your not a racist and that you aren’t making choices purely on the basis of your agenda and personal politics. When La Raza says that they exist to take back the America Southwest, and when anti-white ‘activists’ gleefully say that whites are going to be a minority in America in a few decades, you don’t see racism. On the other hand, when efforts are made to ensure that the votes of American citizens are not nullified by those not eligible to vote, you cry racism and foul. You sir are the racist.

everytime the media or an administration person screams about race it takes Obaba farther down in the polls. He has spent $90 million in past 30 days to earn 0% increase over Mitt. In many states the numbers are in margin of error. I hope he tries to claim it is about race in a speech -he gives -he will drop to 20%.
