Obama loses ground to Romney in key measures of poll
The Washington Times ^ | July 9, 2012 | Stephen Dinan

Mitt Romney continues to hold a whisker-thin 1-percentage-point lead over President Obama in a head-to-head election match-up, but the former Massachusetts governor is eating into the president’s air of inevitability, according to the latest The Washington Times poll.

The poll found Mr. Romney leading 43 percent to 42 percent — about the same margin as the poll in May, but Mr. Obama slipped on several key measures, including fewer voters who say they expect him to win, and fewer who say they are voting for him because he’s the best candidate.

“The health care issue, at least at the moment, is tipping away from Obama among independents, and has caused other independents to kind of park themselves in the undecided parking lot.”

Adding Libertarian Party nominee Gary Johnson into the mix gives Mr. Obama the edge, 43 percent to 41 percent, over Mr. Romney. Mr. Johnson collects about 4 percent of the vote.

Mr. Obama also should be worried that he is polling so low overall as an incumbent. “An incumbent president polling 42 percent at this point in time is not good", said John Zogby.

Another piece of news for Mr. Romney came Monday, when the two campaigns announced some of their fundraising numbers. Mr. Romney and his Republican allies reported raising $35 million more in June than Mr. Obama and allied Democratic committees.

The Romney campaign said that fundraising is a signal of discontent with Mr. Obama, on which they hope to capitalize.

The poll was conducted using live interviews of 800 likely voters, and is weighted to account for the demographics of the population surveyed.

I'm sorry, but I have a hard time believing that in every precinct in America, four people out of every hundred, are going to vote Libertarian, when we are in a life-and-death struggle for the very survival of this great Republic.

As has been said many times before. If the President's numbers are like this before the Election, he is toast. Historically, 80% of the undecideds go for the Challenger. So, if the Election were held today, Romney would win handily.

I can believe it.

There have been many posts on FR suggesting that the ‘protest vote’ is the way to teach the GOP a lesson.

That act is just like putting a loaded pistol to your head and screaming, "Don't laugh! You're next!"

These polls mean next to nothing....the only poll that counts is the one taken on election day.

Listening to Rush the past few days has been painful. He seems to believe that with the number of moochers on the gov dole, there is almost no chance to unseat His Excellency.

Anyone who wants to "punish" the GOP because Romney is the nominee is nothing more than a politcal neophyte acting in the most immature manner because conservatives could not coalesce around a candidate fast enough to offset Romney's 8-year head start.

Well put. The most astute description of the anti-Romney position here that I’ve seen.

Like Romney or not this election really isn’t about Romney vs Obama. It is about Socialism vs Capitalism.

Poll Americans asking them who Gary Johnson is, their choices being

- a gay porn star
- a backup wide receiver for the Minnesota Vikings
- a weekend anchor on CNN
- a NASCAR driver who has never won a race
- Libertarian candidate for President

...and I doubt even 4% would answer correctly

Maybe in Alaska or Texas where there are significant pockets of libertarians, but certainly not 4% nationwide.

Then tell Rush to go off the air and you go off somewhere and sit on the beach an let the rest of us, who haven’t given up, fight this friggin’ battle. Oh, wait. Rush would never do that. He’s made a gazillion dollars off of Conservatives.

I guess your moniker means you are content to shoot the messenger.

Spoke to my cousin last evening in Pa. One of the socalled swing states. He is very politically active and savy. In response to my question about Romney taking Pa he laughed and said if the GOP had a decent candidate rather than the usual rollover like McCain in 08, we could win. However, if Bush could not carry Pa, this guy has no chance especially with the unions here.

That was probably a cheesy comment in your eyes too.

Are you kidding? The only guy being truthful that Romney is a horrible candidate and that there is a big welfare group of people and you want him to shut up. I am so sick and tired of you liberal Republicans and your Romney worship. It is disgusting. Romney is MAYBE 2 percent conservative and at least 72 percent liberal. If Romney wins, you are the going to be the one person who cries and whines about how awful he is for passing all his moderate to liberal laws....It will be one spectical that I will pity you over for being so much in love with Romney and his liberal policies.

I am a Pennsylvia voter and I agree with every word you mentioned. Santorum would have won Pennsylvania regardless of his losing the Senate in horrible 2006. However a liberal Republican candidate will not win Pennsylvania.

He could easily be three on that list alone!

- a gay porn star
- a backup wide receiver for the Minnesota Vikings
- a weekend anchor on CNN
- a NASCAR driver who has never won a race
- Libertarian candidate for President

I agree, by election day it will turn out to be 2% with the other 2 % going to Romney.

We'll know in November.

At that point if Baraq's re-elected, patriots will have to do some serious soul searching as to what personally must be done.

Let’s work to ensure he does not get reelected so we don’t have to face that decision.

I don’t believe that criticism of how poorly Romney is running his campaign is a negative.

The Mittens people NEED to hear this from Rush, Ingraham, and anyone else who does not think it’s enough to just sit back and watch Bam self destruct.and is willing to scream it from the rooftops.
Some of the Tea Party organizers could show more moxy too.

Never underestimate the power of the Left to lie, manipulate and cheat their way to victory.

High time for the Party of Wuss, the GOP-E to get a grip and come out with both barrels blazing..and not give up their offensive game for one second between now and November.

Now on to the Senate.

This is why the October suprise this election is going to be a big one. He is a narcicistic, sociopath like Hitler(I know its analogy that is old) who when the people abandoned him said to hell with you and destoryed what remained of his country. So I expect something whicked this way come. JMHO
