Wall Street Journal editorial says Mitt Romney ‘squandering’ chance against President Obama
Boston Globe ^ | 7/5/12 | Matt Viser

-snip-

“Met Romney last week,” Murdoch tweeted last week. “Tough O Chicago pros will be hard to beat unless he drops old friends from team and hires some real pros. Doubtful.”

The next day, Murdoch tweeted, “Romney people upset at me! Of course I want him to win, save us from socialism, etc but should listen to good advice and get stuck in!”

Jack Welch, the former chief executive of General Electric, added his voice of criticism. He tweeted, “Hope Mitt Romney is listening to Murdoch advice ont campaign staff ... playing in league with Chicago pols. ... No room for amateurs.”

Earlier this year, Welch had called Romney “the most qualified leader I’ve ever seen run for the presidency of the United States.”

Romney’s campaign did not immediately comment on the Wall Street Journal editorial.

By late Thursday morning, another prominent conservative commentator joined in the criticism, comparing Romney’s campaign to other losing bids from Massachusetts (Michael Dukakis in 1988 and John Kerry in 2004) and saying he was being too timid.

“Adopting a prevent defense when it’s only the second quarter and you’re not even ahead is dubious enough as a strategy,” William Kristol wrote on the website of the Weekly Standard.

Looks like Matt Rhoades, Eric Fehrnstrom and the rest of the Ken Mehlman mafia running the Romney campaign are about the get the hook. It's about damn time.

Things sure turned quickly. Mitt’s team was bring lauded by many just a couple short weeks ago for their good messaging and rapid response team.

It’s chaos. Matt Rhoades married a girl 2 weeks ago so Matt Drudge is mad. Eric Fehrnstrom is taking advantage of the discord. Beth Myers is pushing Chris Christie as VP and now Ann Romney is saying they’re going to pick a woman. Amateur hour like you wouldn’t believe.

That guy should be the first to go. Or at least put a muzzle on him.

And does anyone know if Matt Rhoades, Drudge’s former BFF and Romney’s campaign manager is even back from his Hawaiian honeymoon?

Like everything Obama has done has been flawless:Saying Romney wouldn’t have killed Obama, other Dems saying the Bain ads are wrong, and asking people to give up their weeding gifts in leiu of donations

Typical RINO rationalization.

Yep, it’s chaos alright. Fehrnstrom says it’s a penalty not a tax. Then Romney says the penalty is a tax because the Supreme Court says so. But Romney also says in Massachusetts RomneyCare Law the same penalty is not a tax.

A couple of months ago I was ripped for a statement that Romney was a lousy campaigner.
I believe the last month has shown how weak a candidate Romney is. We can all call Obama names and hate his policies but the one thing you can’t say is he is a bad politician. The democrats have been ready for two years to run against mittens. Before the conventions it is imparitive to define yourself as a candidate. What has happened? In every case the democrats are defining Romney and he is playing defense. Is it a tax or a penalty? Who cares? The Policy is what matters.

There has not been a national poll ( discounting tracking polls) that shows Romney is leading. The electorate is pretty stable. You have to articulate your positions. I want a leader and all he does is sit back say Obama sucks. Ok but if you do not come out and say what you are for it shows weakness. The off shore crap is going to kill him in Midwest . Outsourcing? Yeah way to come out fighting on that. He lets the Dems beat him up and does not swing.

I am not optimistic he can turn it around. We have 5 jobs reports left. Tomorrow’s looks better than expected. Without a surprise I believe this will be the high water mark for mittens in the polls.

I am not sure I can hold my nose and vote for him.

Maybe they should tell Mitt Dole, Obama is a Republican?

The fish rots from the head. Fehrnstrom and Rhoades are only symptoms and not the cause.

The picture you posted was the first time I’d seen Mr. Fehrnstrom. Now I know what the problem is.

Etch-A-Sketch Eric is a smug Boston liberal pretending to be a senior Republican advisor to Mittens. Good thing is that he’s toast now.

Romney has let Obama pretty much define him this summer with hardly a response at all.

I have always thought he was a long shot to win, but before June, he looked like he actually had a decent chance. What a terrible month Romney has had though, and it has come during a time he should have been cleaning Obama’s clock.

Obama has the 45% moocher class locked up tighter than a drum. All he needs from there is another 4-5% and he is re-elected.

I think he’ll get it. God help us all.

I don’t understand why Romney is raising so much money if he isn’t going to spend it.

Elections are won and lost in the summer just as much as they are the fall.

Obama, by all rights, should have been finished off this summer. Instead, it is Romney who is struggling to stay in the race.
