Obamaland: Atlantic Pushes for ‘National Vacation Policy’

For those wondering what came next after Obamacare, the answer is here: a national vacation policy. Yesterday, Derek Thompson of The Atlantic suggested that the United States was the “only advanced country without a national vacation policy”:

In Germany, workers are guaranteed a month. In the UK, they're guaranteed more than five weeks of paid vacation. In the U.S., unique in its class, there is no such guarantee. There's your American exceptionalism.

They’ll probably propose you pay a tax for not taking a vacation; and make your employer match it for letting you work.

Does anyone in the so-called “intelligentsia” read newspapers or on-line news? Europe isn't exactly doing a bang-up job, do we really want to imitate them?

France gets a month paid, too.
Ubama must love this idea. After all, he only wants to make America as great as... France.

Do you have to have a job to be eligible for the vacation pay?

National vacation policy will be Obama’s October surprise.

Headline: Obama announces executive order guaranteeing all Americans four weeks of paid vacation. If citizens get sick during the vacation, they may request more time off.

What I need is a vacation from liberal socialism.

All my stress would go away.

Hence, productivity.

Do these people have any idea how badly a sleep schedule could be ruined by having that much time off in a row?

Heck, I’d be fine with two weeks, not consecutively, one week paid and one week not paid, after I’ve been with a company for a few years.

Not only do European’s get a month in the summer..they get the Christmas week, plus a ski week. The also get a 13th month of pay in Jan and and extra month of pay for the vacation.
Fine..let’s do the same thing, just let employers adjust their pay scales for the reduced number of days.

We are running as lean as possible just to keep the remaining folks on the payroll as long as possible and yet make a small profit. Most of them have been around long enough to earn three weeks vacation a year. I insist on one week in a block but they all prefer to take the remaining time one day at a time whenever they need to be off for something. Did go to four ten hour days earlier in the year which everyone really appreciates.

If anybody in the federal govt mandates anything else that costs more money or mandates a reduction in productive manhours, I’ll have to close the doors.

Oh sure. And the wonderful state of the European economies gives us perfect justification for adopting another socialist policy that is bound to reap such magnificent benefits...

Hey! I'm self-employed! If I don't give myself a vacation, should I strike myself? With what? How many times?

Every.... single.... DAY!!! It just gets worse and worse. I am starting to get the feeling that America's socialism in the years to come may actually end up being worse, longer lasting, and more difficult to end than the failed disastrous misadventure that was the former Soviet Union.

The Russians imposed Socialism on themselves in blood and by brute force. That system failed the legitimacy test from the very beginning. The Socialism that America is imposing on itself, is slick and oily. It's a long slow seduction that promises everything for the hedonist, an abandonment of all responsibility, and largess for all -- plus medical and dental.

Is it any wonder that so many people are just giving up and grabbing what they can, while they can? I mean, most of these people can do some math. Number of producers falling, number of parasites rising -- sooner or later the parasites are going to kill the host. They know this, everyone knows this, Obama and Pelosi have to know this... yet why in the name of all that is HOLY are they still trying to sign MORE people onto foodstamps, plus Obamacare, and now mandate a vacation policy that is bound to utterly destroy any number of marginally stable, it not prosperous businesses?

Crazy Eddie! That's what it is. In Larry Niven's "Mote in God's Eye" he talked about the guy.

I'm cutting a bit... "We will call him Crazy Eddie, if you like. He is a... he like me, an idiot savant tinker, sometimes. Always he does the wrong things for excellent reasons. He does the same things over and over, and they always bring disaster, and he never learns."

... "When a city has grown so overlarge and crowded that it is in immediate danger of collapse... when food and clean water flow into the city at a rate just sufficient to feed every mouth, and every hand must work constantly to keep it that way... when all transportation is involved in moving vital supplies, and none is left over to move people out of the city should the need arise... then it is that Crazy Eddie leads the movers of garbage out on strike for better working conditions."

And I thought this was fiction...

One can have however many weeks one wants, if one works hard enough.

The government can’t grant vacations, can’t provide vacations, and can’t in fact give anyone anything.

Thanks NoLibZone.
