Grassley reacts as DOJ blows off contempt; Issa’s ‘bombshell’
Seattle Gun Rights Examiner ^ | 29 June, 2012 | Dave Workman

Posted on 07/02/2012 5:26:52 AM PDT by marktwain

Senator Charles Grassley got furious fast over the Justice Department’s dismissive attitude about the House of Representatives’ criminal contempt citation against Attorney General Eric Holder, and his call for independent action by the U.S. attorney in Washington, D.C. will likely earn accolades from western gun rights activists.

Grassley will be far more popular than a Kent man who was sentenced in federal court in Seattle Friday for selling a gun via the internet later used in a murder, and probably more popular than the judge who handed down the sentence, for something he said in court, according to the Seattle Times. More about that in a moment.

In a Friday letter to U.S. Attorney Ronald C. Machen, Jr., Grassley took particular exception to the Justice Department’s reaction after the House voted 255-67 – with 109 members walking out on the vote – to hold Holder in contempt for refusing to turn over subpoenaed documents in the Fast and Furious investigation. Last week, Grassley wrote a letter to President Obama about executive privilege and Fast and Furious, which may be read here.

Government officials were prosecuted for supplying weapons to the freedom fighters in Nicaragua. But nobody is being prosecuted for supplying weapons to drug cartels. I hope if Romney get elected that he reverses this decision, but, past experience with GOP officials is not encouraging.

There are many that are involved directly and in directly. All should be vetted as for thier involvement and thier support of this criminal enterprise. WE need in the coming years and independent council that will investigate and bring charges on all involved in fast and furious as well as other criminal activities by this administration. Do not rest until we see jail time handed out

That is code for "no conservative is above the law". It doesn't apply to liberals in the eyes of Obama's pet mainstream media.

1. Senate Majority leader (Democrat) does nothing, so ranking member Grassley (R) works with Congressman Issa to pursue fast and furious.

2. Ranking member of House oversight committee Cummings (D) actively participates in the Fast & Furious coverup.

3. DOJ refuses to comply with Congressional subpoena's citing "an ongoing investigation" concerning documents generated AFTER the DOJ admitted it was wrong about F&F, and AFTER all criminal prosecutions (against drug cartel members) are complete. In other words, these documents detail THE COVERUP!

4. Holder's appointed (non-independant and friendly co-worker) "investigator" has compromised the investigation in several ways, and no culpability, accountability or discipline has been determined -- much less acted upon.

5. The media continues to charecterize the contempt vote as "along party lines" when more than a dozen Democrats voted in favor of contempt. They fail to note that only members of the Black Congressional Caucus walked out on the vote, in support of (black- "ish") Holder, making the only partisian solidarity her along RACIST lines!

I think I got the high points.

Meanwhile a ruling against a gunseller shows that it is a crime to sell ONE gun used in ONE crime which committed ONE murder. Jail time is pending for that gunseller.

No wonder the people are getting furious FAST!

Obviously 109 Democrats who seem to have a penchant anymore for running away from their responsibilities decided the vote wasn’t worth it, and the running away, and hiding was.

255-67 was the vote to hold Holder in Contempt of Congress with 109 running away to hide. Wondering what happened to the other 69?

I did only read the excerpt as I’m short on time.

Interesting that the 109 were not willing to go on record standing up for Holder. Unwilling to vote against him, sure ... but also unwilling to vote _for_ him.

255 for Contempt of Congress.
67 against Contempt of Congress.
109 walked out, didn’t vote.
Total 431 if my math is correct.

There are I believe 500 members of the House which means 69 of them did not vote, and I’m wondering what happened to those “representatives” that they did not “represent” their constituents.

I may have posted this before, but I heard a caller on a radio show whose aa coworker was robbed by another aa. The caller asked the coworker if he was going to the police about it and he was told no. “I ain’t gonna put another brothuh in jail” was the reply.

This goes hand in hand with the DOJ employees who were unhappy that they were going to Mississippi to file a case for a white man- didn’t one say that he didn’t join the DOJ to fight for white people or to file charges against black people?

I have yet to hear a white person say that they were not going to do something specifically because the person in question was white.

Actually, I believe there are 435 members of the House. Which meanss four others did not vote. And with a group that large to have 4 of them (less than 1%) out sick or for some other personal reason would not be unusual.

What hppened is that there was bi-partisan support for the vote and it passed overwhelminly. There were 109 who were unwilling to go on record AT ALL. That could be construed two ways, the one they are giving to the press where they are so enraged that they would not even particpate, or the one they hope their constitutents see and a political hedge by these whimps that should somehting come of it, they can say that they never voted “for” Holder.

These people are beyond contempt.

It is odd that this letter arrived before the House of Representatives had even transmitted the contempt resolution adopted yesterday to you as the “appropriate United States Attorney” under 2 U.S.C. § 194. Under that statute, the appropriate U.S. Attorney’s “duty . . . shall be to bring the matter before the grand jury for its action.”2

This language is quite clear and simple to comprehend. It is not optional.3 Moreover, the law clearly assigns that duty to you and to no one else. It could have assigned the duty to the Attorney General or to the Deputy Attorney General or some other official. But, it does not. As for the ultimate decision to proceed with a prosecution after you have exercised your duty to present the matter to a grand jury,

Since Issa had the letter, my guess is Cummings quietly gave it to him. How else would he have gotten it?

Morning thought: The dropping of the letter was just a shot across the bow. Issa has much more. He will drip drip drip it to keep it in the news. If WithHolder and 0 don’t want it made public they can resign like Nixon. Did anyone else notice the phrase that Eric said following the letter drop echoed WJC’s “I must get back to the people’s business”?

Not a criticism, just an observation. Your first point has Cummings giving Issa the letter. Your second point belies that in implying Issa has much more. If that’s the case, there’s no reason to believe Cummings may have given Issa the letter. It’s more logical the letter came from elsewhere.

We know there are whistleblowers. It’s also possible (perhaps probable) there are many more than we know of, or other sources we’re unaware of. In a scandal of this magnitude, it’s not hard to believe people are scrambling to get above the fray, and one of the best ways to do that is to “come clean” and cooperate. Let the real scumbags take the fall.

Absolutely! Besides the American BP agent and the American ICE agent (Hispanic), the blood of hundreds of innocent Mexican citizens is dripping from Cummings's hands.

Someone with access to DOJ material,or, someone with access to Cummings’ material...

In any event, I suspect Grassley and Issa have a great deal of information they’re holding close. This has been orchestrated very well, and to do that, one has to have a lot to work with.

BTW, I’ve downloaded Katy Pavlich’s Fast & Furious book to my Kindle. Won’t be reading it for a while as I’m midway through Travis’ EFAD trilogy again, but I’ll get to in in a week or so. As I understand, it does a pretty good job of putting it all together.

What an excellent illustration of a 'truth suppressor'!

The rule of law used to mean that the law acted to limit abuse of individual rights and to protect society from lawless behavior. Democrats do not believe in that process so they just make up legal precedent as they go along rather than work for legislation to re-define laws. What that amounts to is a philosophy of democrats, to change laws in an unconstitutional way because they no longer follow the constitution and no one is forcing them to follow it! And now these same bastards have a strong enabler sitting atop the SCOTUS ruling for their approach to changing laws by issuing precedent rather than legislating new law or changes to laws. But make no mistake, when democrats are in complete control of the legislative (as in Harry Reid's lawless control of the Senate), they abuse the system to the max via regulators, czars with unspecified powers to prosecute and Senators who block any effort to follow the Constitution. Harry Reid and Elijah Cummings are enemies of America as defined in the Constitution, but they are great friends to the lawless.
