I think the Justices have telegraphed the results. Here's why.
My prediction-
7-2 overturn mandate
5-4 keep the rest

You are correct. Even if 0bamascare is stuck down, Hussein will implement it piece by piece through regulations. After all, he fancies himself as Emperor Hussein I of Amerika, after decreeing that he would only enforce those laws he liked, and having congress barely react.
Yup. We have only one branch of govt. now. obama has rendered Congress and the SC null and void.
My prediction-
7-2 overturn mandate
5-4 keep the rest
I watched that speech on CSPAN I was drawn to her remarks about how ideas put forth in two of her dissents had later resonated in the Lilly Ledbetter Act and in Jerry Brown commuting the prison sentence of a woman who's appeal for the shaken infant death of her grandchild had been denied by SCOTUS. My take was she was bucking up a very sympathetic following for the prospect of another dissent on her part with regards to the signature ruling of this court....ad I'm sticking to it...
I disagree. I think killing obamacare will make obama supporters depressed and they will stay home on election night.
Wow! All of you sissy speculators with blogs. Is there anything you all don’t know?
I'm on a wombat ping list. Your argument is invalid. ;)

I think I also read on the SCOTUS blog that Kennedy is co-writing the opinion with Roberts. He was th one question mark (Kennedy). Surely, siding with Roberts, with Ginsberg opposing, an overturn ruling is in order.
So you think Ginsberg is actually going to vote against the mandate?
The doom and gloomers have taken over this site.
Why should we be optimistic? Give us a reason. Today obama flipped off the SC and said he won’t abide by their decision to uphold even one part of AZ’s immigration laws. He’s going around it. He will do the exact same thing if the mandate is struck down. He will flip them off and ignore the ruling/find a way around it. There is no reason whatsoever for optimism.
Don’t mean to be a downer to anyone. Just a shout out about what’s on my mind hoping you guys can talk me off the ledge. You guys are doing an OK job but I’m still not convinced otherwise. I probably need a beer and a John Wayne movie.
Agree—what will he do to punish the whole country if his Obamacare bill is struck down??
I don’t think it is going to matter. If Obama even remotely believes he is going to lose in November, he will implement a “scorched earth” policy, the likes of which no one can imagine.
He has spit on the Constitution. He has spit on every institution in this country. He has no respect for any of us or anything remotely associated with USA.
When you tell Law Enforcement Officers that if they call in illegals in this country to the Feds that no one will answer, you have a big problem. Not all of those crossing that border is an illegal Mexican looking for work.
Essentially, we are experiencing a National Security Crisis.
He is willing to jeopardize every person in this country.
i don’t think one has to do with the other...did voting against the SEIU last week make you feel as though they were going to vote against obamacare???
I'll get in agreement with what my faith says will happen, not with what others fear will happen. I choose life - not death.
I believe that you have forgotten January, February, March, and April of 1861.
“I hope I’m wrong but I think we’re being played like a fiddle.”
Fiddle player is the federal government in its entirety, and yes.
if thats true about the mole then all the actions from the rats, including todays memo that was leaked to the Chicago paper (sun times?) would lead most to believe the court is going to strike it down...
For anybody that caught Rush, he said he understood why Roberts had his name on the ruling today. Said he couldn’t say anything more because it would mean giving up his source. He was talking to Snerdley, not the audience, and his tone just sounded odd. I always expect negative results from anything coming out of the DC cesspool.
FWIW, Ive been having the same nightmare all day.

Which tells you something about “The Land of the Free”.
“I Think They’ve Upheld”
Then they’re going to have full blown Depression, everybody to shut down for the final takeover-theft attempt.
Since only 30% of those polled like ObamaCare, the Supreme Court upholding the law will not help him in November. Just the opposite. Either way we win. And remember: If we elect enough Republicans and/or conservatives to Congress, we can modify or repeal ObamaCare. This won’t be over on Thursday.
That is way too much political manuvering, and far too little attention paid to the law for the Supreme Court in it’s recent history.
I don’t know if they will screw the constitution on Obamacare or not. If they don’t, the President and Senate will do it eventually through global treaties.
LOL,,but what a horrible way to ruin your great starting day: shower, coffee and JUAN? One of these things is NOT like the other.
Is it just me or is Juanie raving more lately and acting unstable? He sure doesn’t like it when anyone else talks.
Mary Catherine doesn’t have a chance.

"My hair is a bird. Your argument is invalid."
I think that's what the local residents said when Patton invited them to take the Buchenwald tour.
Smartest advice I've heard all week. Week is young yet.. but still...
Take a deep breath.
And at the end of it all? You're gonna be as dead as I will be, and then the sun blows into a red giant and eats Terra.
We're made out of stardust, we go back (eventually, after billions of years) to stardust.
Sometimes we just have to take a step back and get a little perspective.
You are a walking dead man, just like me. Get over it. I did. ;)

I'll be back to reply after I change pants.

Oral arguments? Quick, somebody check to see if Kagan has any carpet stuck in her teeth.
My understanding is that the authors of the legislation made the error of not including a severability clause.
I the individual mandate falls, the whole sha-bang goes down.
lol, agreed Shower and Juan is not a good combo and he does seem a little more irrational than usual lately.
I think if it’s upheld it will energize obama’s base as well as some undecideds, after all nothing succeeds like success. Can you imagine the 5 month victory lap with the msm talking about nothing else. grrrrrrrrrrrrr.
Even if they uphold it, that does not make it mandatory. We can still defund and eliminate it legislatively.
Whatever they decide, Barry will still act as king as long as he’s in the White House. If the ruling stands, the country votes him out. Perhaps a little late, but the Catholic Church has just started A Fortnight for Freedom, inviting all parishioners to pray for religious freedom in our country. In the meantime, keep up the good fight and keep the faith. :)
3. Liberals never care about being thought fair and balanced. Liberals never throw bones to conservatives. More importantly, SC Justices don’t need to do either.
Not necessarily. Mark Levin excoriated this decision today on radio. He was especially upset that Roberts joined the liberal coalition to strike down 3 parts of the law, and the 4th part can be “revisited” at a later date (by a lower court). He also said that the Arizona law is basically Federal law which is not being enforced. His group, Landmark Legal, wrote an amicus brief and actually said that if this is struck down, every sanctuary state and city, and any state with in state tuition breaks for illegals should sue their state/city as the Supreme Court has just ruled that only the Feds have jurisdiction over matters of immigration.
You had to hear him go... he was on fire. So, I believe all bets are off.
It won’t be upheld it has no basis in law.
“After watching Pelosi coming apart at the seams lately tells me that she knows”
We can only hope.
If ZerOcare is not overturned, there no longer exists a need for a SC.
Well, of course, you need a beer or six. We all do.
On it’s face, the Arizona decision does seem incorrect. However, it’s not the Court’s role to force Zero to enforce the law on the books when that was not the issue presented to the Court. That’s a political issue, at least until it is properly framed for review.
I read what seems like a good idea on a thread earlier today: Why doesn’t Arizona sue ICE et al., for the costs it has incurred due to Zero’s refusal to enforce the law? Otherwise, it seems to me, it’s up to Congress to force the executive to protect our borders as provided by law.
I am not nearly as pessimistic as some about Obamacare passing muster. The mandate is obviously unconstitutional. Even a caveman or cavewomen or cavechild or cavehound could figure that out. As for the rest of the law, I have no idea what SCOTUS will do.
Although Scalia’s dissent in the Arizona case is compelling, I think one could reasonably argue that the Court determined that it’s the feds job to protect our borders under the Constitution. Extrapolating that decision to the upcoming Obamacare decision, seems to me, the Court is following, or attempting to follow, Constitutional dictates, which bodes quite poorly for the individual mandate. The CC clause cannot justify the mandate.
Now, I will go get a beer.
Fertile minds are often full of compost.
I don’t know if it is too late, the the petulant asshat in the white house hopefully caused one of those who would vote to uphold the deathcare act to not vote for it as kind of a FU back at him for his actions.
/johnny
I hear Roberts wrote the majority opinion.
Would Roberts really write a majority opinion forcing U.S. citizens to buy something?
After watching Pelosi coming apart at the seams lately tells me that she knows
We can only hope.
Doesn’t mean much. Queen Botox comes apart at the seams at virtually anything.
If they've upheld the patently unconstitutional individual mandate, then I'll be forced to agree with Obama regarding their irrelevancy, albeit for a different reason.
