How My View on Gay Marriage Changed
New York Times ^ | June 22, 2012 | By DAVID BLANKENHORN

Marriage is how society recognizes and protects this right. Marriage is the planet’s only institution whose core purpose is to unite the biological, social and legal components of parenthood into one lasting bond. Marriage says to a child: The man and the woman whose sexual union made you will also be there to love and raise you. In this sense, marriage is a gift that society bestows on its children.

At the level of first principles, gay marriage effaces that gift. No same-sex couple, married or not, can ever under any circumstances combine biological, social and legal parenthood into one bond. For this and other reasons, gay marriage has become a significant contributor to marriage’s continuing deinstitutionalization, by which I mean marriage’s steady transformation in both law and custom from a structured institution with clear public purposes to the state’s licensing of private relationships that are privately defined.

I have written these things in my book and said them in my testimony, and I believe them today. I am not recanting any of it.

But there are more good things under heaven than these beliefs. For me, the most important is the equal dignity of homosexual love. I don’t believe that opposite-sex and same-sex relationships are the same, but I do believe, with growing numbers of Americans, that the time for denigrating or stigmatizing same-sex relationships is over. Whatever one’s definition of marriage, legally recognizing gay and lesbian couples and their children is a victory for basic fairness.

This is not a retreat, it’s a surrender. He surrendered for strategic reasons, but this is a surrender. Waiting to see what Maggie’s reaction is…

Satan, in trying to imitate God, takes what God has created and perverts it.

1. God, NOT government, created marriage & ordinated it.
Satan tries to change what God created and perverts it. Gay marriage is a perversion of God's blessed union; marriage. God called homosexuality detestable and an abomination.

2. God created sex to be a holy union between man and wife.
Satan has perverted sex, especially in the last 40 years or so, in many ways; by making people believe sex outside of marriage is normal, porn, divorce, pediphiles, .....

3.God created the family
Satan tries to destroy the family by pushing gay adoption (with romney’s help) divorce...

4.God created the earth; a place for us to live, work and enjoy, and man in God's image.
Satan perverts God's creation by telling man to worship the created (earth) rather than The Creator God. (greenies) He tells man to believe in evolution; that man is only an animal.

You can go on and on, with the things God created and satan has perverted.

For me, the most important is the equal dignity of homosexual love.”

Forgive the description, but where is the dignity of a man humping over another man. It seeems this is the description of male-on-male 'relations'. This is how they define themselves. They do not describe themselves as family people, though they have tried to insinuate that into the debate for misdirection. They call themselves homosexual partners. Straight partners reference themselves as a couple. I have never heard a man and wife say we are heterosexual partners.

Sharing feces is neither dignified nor love.

“For me, the most important is the equal dignity of homosexual love.”

Allowing gay “marriage” can never accomplish this. Homosexual “love”, by its very nature, is undignified. The entire world could embrace them and tell them they are normal, but at the end of the day, homosexuals’ conscience’s will still bother them, because their “love” is at essence an expression of their own self-loathing.

He's hardening my stance against ALL homosexual unions. They first wanted civil unions and now marriage. We were too lenient allowing them to have civil unions

I now advocate no homosexual civil unions

I agree. I feel the same way. They have become so arrogant and hubristic and I am surprised that this reaction has not been more prevalent the past 5 years as they demand more and more and more rights and special privileges.

Can Blankenhorn really believe that once SSM is law, all those people who support it will suddenly join in some sort of an effort to strengthen marriage and stigmatize divorce, cohabitation, out-of-wedlock births, and IVF?

Same-sex marriage will *weaken* the institution of marriage even further and this is not some accident. SSM will not be the start of some sort of a newfound respect for marriage but a final confirmation of the current flimsiness of it. That’s why those who oppose it do so.

Blakenhorn can’t say he thinks marriage is all about affirming the “dignity” of “love” between two people and also support strengthening it as the best way to raise children. He has to choose one or the other. Sadly, he has made his choice.

In the 1970s the effort for “gay rights” dealt with matters such as getting laws off the books banning homosexuals from congregating and adding “sexual orientation” to laws against hiring discrimination. Even Ronald Reagan opposed the “Briggs Amendement” in California which would have banned gays from teaching in public schools.

If someone back then had said passing these laws would lead to homosexuality becoming a required part of school courses (http://fxn.ws/nHtwXt), homosexuals being celebrated on TV and movies, and the legalization of marriage between people of the same sex, he would have been derided as a kook and a scare-monger (even by many who opposed gay rights).

Yet it is 30 years later and here we are. The scare-monger would have been right.

People love to deride a “slippery slope” argument as some sort of logical fallacy. But sometimes the slope is more slippery than anyone realizes.

You are correct which is why I am hoping once homoesexual marriage is legalized by supreme court, the secession debates can begin.
