Over 120 delegates to the Republican National Convention have joined a lawsuit against the GOP arguing they have been illegally coerced into choosing Mitt Romney for the party’s presidential nominee and demanding they be “unbound” to vote for another candidate instead.
The federal lawsuit, filed this week in U.S. District Court in California by mostly supporters of Ron Paul, demands the delegates be freed to “vote their conscience” for presidential nominee at the party’s August national convention in Tampa, Fla., rather than being “bound” to vote for a certain candidate, as many state party bylaws require, based on the primary elections and other delegate selection procedures.

“The Republican National Committee and its chairman have been aiding the Governor Romney campaign for at least six months,” the lawsuit asserts. “The RNC and its chairman, defendant Reince Priebus, have … combined with a particular candidate with all of the aid the RNC can possibly, but improperly give … to obstruct, intimidate and harass delegates from voting their conscience.”
Specifically, the lawsuit charges Republican officials and operatives have used threats of violence, certified unlawful slates of delegates, demanded affidavits of loyalty to Romney under penalty of perjury and have even altered ballot results to make sure the national convention is stacked with delegates who will vote for Romney.

The reason they are bound to Mitt is because the voters of their state voted for Mitt, and they are bound by their state party rules to represent those voters, not their own wishes.
Ron Paul's asperger army has always hated the Democratic process because when it's open and transparent, they lose. They lose every time. They only manage to get ahead when there are few people looking and they can out-nerd their opponents on rules or technicalities.
That's what this is about; they are angry that the Republican primary voters, whom they have nothing but contempt for since they exist outside their narrow clique, are dictating *gasp* who is the nominee and are turning to the courts.
Here's the true demonstration of hypocrisy: if this is what Ron Paul really thinks should be done, why doesn't he release all his bound delegates (what few he has)?

It will never happen. The last 4 years has really opened my eyes. We have a total Mafia Government run by 2 crime families (Gop and Dnc) who in turn are run by the Central Bankers (House of Rothchild and House of Rockerfeller). They control everything, including the judges so you can’t win in court. Romney will be the nominee, to be the next Front Man in the White House.
We are at the precipice: either total Tyranny wins or the Tree of Liberty gets water with blood..........LOTS OF BLOOD.

Yup, Paul is a nut. He makes no sense ideologically. He's Mr. "Constitution", yet he's an apologist for America's enemies. The very enemies who wish to destroy our Constitution. WTF?

Paul would be good in a cabinet position where he gets to deal with financial issues at home, as well as going after people for doing bad things. As long as he has no say in foreign policy, or even have much ability to sign his name to get things done, then his nuttiness should be contained.
You are right to say the Paulbots are useful idiots but this has nothing to do with supporting conservatives and the Paulbots do not deserve support. The Ron Paul and his group have lied and cheated throughout the process. They have tried to overturn the wishes of voters and steal delegates through slimy, dishonest tactics.
The Paulbots will NEVER support an honest, principled conservatives. They have been working to help Romney in the primaries. They have been working to help Obama from the beginning.

What's the point of having primary elections if the delegates— delegated by voters to attend conventions in our stead— can go there and vote who they want without reference to the expressed wishes of those voters?
Had this been a bunch of Santorum-favoring delegates, whose actions would mean "my guy" would "win", I'd still be against it, and for the same reasons. If "we" "win" that way, the Republic loses in the long term.

There was no primary election in the State of Washington. The Democrat controlled legislature canceled the primary election. The party caucus was used as the sole substitute for the canceled primary election. In our precinct, Almost half the votes went to Gingrich. Romney didn't get even one-quarter of the votes.However, the way in which the delegates to the county convention and caucus were selected, about 70 percent of the delegates represented Romney with only one delegate, myself, represented Gingrich. In other words, the will of the voters in this precinct was subverted and not represented by the canceled primary election. Instead, many of the delegates to the Republican county convention were current and/or former Democrats who publicly admitted to having voted for Obama in the last election and for Romney in the present caucus substitute for the canceled primary election.
