GOP Immigration Hawk Rebuffs Rubio and Rivera DREAM Act Proposals
Fox News Latino ^ | June 13, 2012 | Elizabeth Llorente

One of Congress’s ranking Republicans on immigration says he will not support either of the two measures by fellow Republicans that would spare undocumented immigrants brought to the United States as minors from deportation.

Rep. Steve King, the vice chairman of the House immigration subcommittee, told Fox News Latino that measures permitting undocumented immigrants to stay in the U.S. reward lawbreakers.

King, who is from Iowa, said that Florida Rep. David Rivera’s bill, called “Studying Towards Adjusted Residency Status Act,” or STARS – which was introduced in May – “meets the definition of amnesty.”

STARS would allow some undocumented students who enroll in college to stay in the country legally and eventually apply for citizenship. The other measure, not yet introduced, is being drafted by Sen. Marco Rubio who, like Rivera, is from Florida. .
.
.
Political insiders say that the GOP bills could make their way to the House floor for a debate and vote -- despite opponents like Steve King, Lamar Smith and other Republicans in that chamber who are hawkish on immigration -- if House Speaker John A. Boehner, an Ohio Republican,, decided to push it out there.

"But it would be very uncomfortable for him," King said, "I don't think the votes are there to pass it."

Earlier this year, Boehner gave a tepid response to reporters’ questions about Rubio’s plan-in-progress.

“I found it of interest,” Boehner was quoted as saying in published reports, “but the problem with this issue is that we’re operating in a very hostile political environment. To deal with a very difficult issue like this, I think it would be difficult at best.”

Better get on board a case by case assessment for STUDENTS, or be on the losing end of this debate for ever.

Start by showing your strength on CLOSING THE BORDER!!!

Border enforcement has, for thousands of years, been almost universal around the world but suddenly it’s “hawkish” to want to apply it?

These people can go to hell.

Good for Steve King. We never had the Latino vote and never will. They will continue to vote 65-35 for the Dems. Pandering doesn’t work. McCain supported amnesty and received awards from La Raza. The Latinos voted for Obama.

If I were an American citizen of latino heritage I would be mightily offended by the automatic assumption that the most important issue in my world is offering amnesty to illegal immigrants.

It should not too hard to do a little reverse psychology on this tired democrat smear tactic and turn the argument into a positive, and still maintain our pro rule-of-law principles.

If guys like Rubio want to, that is.

Ever since the DREAM ACT was first introduced, it has become the rallying cry for illegals hoping for amnesty. Frankly, I think our political system is so corrupt and so perverted that it is only a matter of time before the Dream ACT is enacted into law.

From my perspective, however, the majority of illegals have added nothing to American society and has, in fact ben a drag on it. Education has suffered because so many illegals in the classroom who can’t do the work have caused educational standards to repeatedly be lowered. State and local budgets have been impacted by the drain the illegals have placed on social services while contributing nothing.

I’m not condemning all of the. Some have made every effort possible to assimilate and become productive citizens. While I still think they need to be returned to their native countries and get back in line for immigration to the US, they might be worth a “speedpass”.

But, IMO, bottom line I think passage of the Dream Act is a matter of when, not if.

Hope and pray that idiot Boner holds on to this bill until after the elections.

Persoanlly, I don’t want to see the Elian Gonzalez photos appearing nation-wide as Immigration Officials break down doors to snatch kids away.

Yes. They are lawbreakers. But the BIGGESTS lawbreakers are the companies which hire these people knowing they are illegal, pay them under the table to avoid the SS employer co-pay and then dump them on the social support networks we all pay for so they can enjoy cheap labor. And these kids are the result of that.

I think there should be some kind of limited amnesty for people who are here illegally, WANT TO BE AMERICANS, have learned, or are learning our language, have no criminal record here or where they came from, and are working.

Personally I think King is making a serious mistake - politically, morally and ethcially and I agree with Rubio totally.

Dear Immigration Reform Leaders and Activists,

Washington inside sources have confirmed that Senators Kyl (R-AZ) and Hutchison (R-TX) are helping Rubio with his DREAM Act. This is a huge problem for us as both of these senior Senators – Senators from border states – are retiring and really don’t give a hoot about what their constituents want. We NEED to get their attention. We don’t know if they can be shamed into retreating but it is worth a try, please email everyone you know and have them make calls to the District Offices of Kyl and Hutchinson. Florida leaders need to continue to pound Rubio on this issue!

Rubio’s chief of staff is now indicating the text is done and is setting up meetings with a few key Republican members. We haven’t been able to get the text yet, but will keep you all posted.

Ironically, in the special election last year in NY’s 9th Congressional District, Bob Turner got about half the Latino vote despite being anti-illegal immigration. Where it really hurt him was with Asians. In fact, City Councilman Koo, who had been the only Asian-American Republican in any city or state office, endorsed the Democrat Weprin and then switched parties. Of course this was a special election and gay marriage was an issue. Still, I suspect that Obama will not do as well as people think with Hispanics, so long as we can keep Rubio from helpim the Democrats. Because that schmuck from Florida is either retarded or trying to help Obama.

“The number of unaccompanied undocumented minors apprehended along the border or found in the U.S. is at record highs and could nearly double in 2012 “

“Already in fiscal year 2012 the government has apprehended more than 8,000 unaccompanied minors, already topping the agency’s estimate for the entire year and nearing the peak of 8,200 in 2010, according to budget documents for the Department of Health and Human Services which oversees the Office of Refugee Resettlement.”

Thanks to talk of an impending “Dream Act”.

OK, offer them citizenship, in exchange for giving up any social assistence/welfare benefits and an agreement to pay full freight - payroll and property and all other assorted taxes - the rest of us suckers pay.

I'd be willing to bet the number of takers would not fill the typical Geraldo studio audience.

Of course such a deal will never be made because once made citizens the democrats plan on bribing them with welfare transfer payments as they do most of the rest of the country's 'poor'.

Antyway, IMO most of them would rather stay 'in the shadows' because to them becoming a loyal American citizen for its own sake simply doesn't offer them any benefit.

If you're going to go "full Special" you should have ended that with a comment about loading them in cattle cars and shipping them off to the showers.

Think about it. 30 million illegals is enough to create nearly 50 primarily democrat congressional districts and all the costs of administering them before we even look at earmarks and pork. And then there’s the liberal votes.

Pure treason.
