Are we sure that dad who beat his daughter’s molester to death was engaged in self-defense?

Via the Blaze. Four words, my friends: Trial of the century.

"James Harrington, director of the Texas Civil Rights Project, an Austin-based nonprofit group, questioned the father’s decision to “summarily execute” the alleged molester without due process."

“Assuming it’s true that this guy was molesting the daughter, and we don’t know what exactly happened at this point, he would then have the right to defend [her], and hit him enough to have him stop,” Harrington told FoxNews.com. “But you cannot summarily execute him, even though I can understand the anger he would have.”

"Without specific knowledge of the case, Harrington said he was “surprised” that the girl’s father had not been already charged."

Harrington continued: “The question is: When does it move beyond self-defense?”

That’s what I was getting at in last night’s post about the difference between self-defense and punishment. Self-defense entitles you to neutralize your attacker; once he’s been neutralized, you’re not really defending yourself anymore, you’re just kicking the crap out of him. Imagine that the dad here saw his daughter being molested and knocked the guy unconscious with one right hook to the jaw. Boom — he’s neutralized. If he continues to beat him after that in a blind rage, that’s more like voluntary manslaughter than self-defense. More from the Christian Post:

Bullsh1t, the pervert animal got what he deserved. These creeps that prey on innocent children need to be and should be eliminated altogether from society.

Be it execution deemed from the justice system or from a FATHER protecting his DAUGHTER.

There is no way in the world a jury in Shiner TX. is going to convict this case.

I would have done the same thing as the father did, I’m sure.

Everything seems just a bit too coincidental. I bet the cops are looking into his story. There’s always a lot of shady stuff going on with horse breeding- insurance scams etc. The father claims to vaguely know the guy. I wonder if they ever had any kind of business dealings. Or if the victim discovered something the father did regarding a horse. For some reason, this story just doesn’t set right for me.

Given what the perp was doing, I am completely on the father’s side. I wish all molesters realized that their activities might end in summary death. I think there would be a lot less molestations everywhere if people thought they’d die from it.

If only Mike McQueary had done the same as this dad when he saw Sandusky molesting that boy in the Penn State shower room.

To quote the metal band, Iced Earth:

“Revenge is not justice, it’s “the reckoning”...

Apologies to anyone offended by the metallic style. This particular number is part of a great, patriotic album, “Glorious Burden”, a work that followed the rape of America on 9/11.

The sentiments seemed apropos of the man who beat this rapist scum to death.

It needs to be investigated..and speaking of that..do we have an ID yet on the dead perp? If not..why not? Somebody must know his name.

At what point in your life did a child molester become a victim?

I would be cool with using the term “the deceased”.

So, what’s this legal expert’s view about, oh, say, pouring gasoline all over a drunk man and lighting it on fire?

Thanks chessplayer.

There was an 11 y.o. girl killed in a fight in California, by a punch to the head from another girl the same age. According to the investigators, she was not struck with unusual force, she did not hit her head on the ground. They did not charge the other girl - just a freak thing in a kids’ fight apparently.

Some people have congenital weaknesses in their blood vessels.

Now were there witnesses to what happened in this Texas case? Besides the father and the little girl?

homicide in the public interest.

What an interesting concept. It made me get my cleaning gear out to clean the spewed beer off of the screen.

If ever confronted with a situation like the father faced, I may use that as a justification.

It works for me.

Much fancier way of saying 'he needed killin''.

I would pay to get on this guys jury and say “Not Guilty”, and spit in Harrington’s face on the way out of court.

Assuming it’s true that this guy was molesting the daughter, and we don’t know what exactly happened at this point, the father certainly would then have the right and the obligation to defend the daughter, and hit the predator enough to have him stop - permanently. You certainly can summarily execute a predator who is harming your child.

The prosecution has an obligation to check the story that far and verify the alleged molestation. At that point, I’m okay with a substantial reward for the good Dad.
