The United States Army is debating whether to admit women to Ranger School, its elite training program for young combat leaders.
Proponents argue this is to remove a final impediment to the careers of Army women. But the move would erode the unique Ranger ethos and culturenot to mention the program's rigorous physical requirementsharming its core mission of cultivating leaders willing to sacrifice everything for our nation.
The Army's 75th Ranger Regiment traces its roots back to World War II, when it won acclaim for penetrating deep behind Japanese lines. Founded in 1950, Ranger School teaches combat soldiers small-unit tactics and leadership under extreme duress. It pushes men harder than any other program in the Army's curriculum.
Competition to attend the course is fierce, with about 4,000 men eligible to attend each year. Only about half graduate. Of those, only 20% make it through without having to retake various phases.
For decades, completion of Ranger School has been the best indicator for determining which young men can handle the enormous responsibility of combat leadership

After viewing your FR bio page and description of the character, I’m thinking you might have based Brad on. . . .you.
Sounds like “None of the above”.
Nah. I got married early, and I’m still that way. “Now, all my thrills are vicarious.”
Any society that sends its women to fight for it before it sends its non-shaving boys and cane-borne old men deserves to be overrun.
Even though I’m in the 12th. Marine Corps recruiting district I was sent to Parris Island where all female recruits train.
That wasn’t so hard now, was it.
There’s far less personal information in “Parris Island” than in your FR page.
It’s because of what I’m doing now is why.
Because, the facilities at Ranger school are set up for men. Women have rquirements that are different than men. Ranger school training schedule would have to be altered to meet women's health needs, since it is intended to be a miserable experience testing not only the physical capability but also the will and mental capabilities of its participants. Unless women have changed, these are considerations that must be taken into account. Would it be 'fair' to fail a women for something that is attributable to their nature as women? I've not been to Ranger school, but I have friends who have, it is a demanding school completed in a state of poor hygiene.
Check your attitude. Read your posts.
“It pains me that in many cases, one cannot discuss this without being painted as a troglodyte at best, or a misogynist at worst.”
Trust me...you are neither.
You’ve displayed good, common sense.
I’m worried about the military, if any of these posts from women are to be believed.
“Its because of what Im doing now is why.”
Then, WHY are you advertising yourself on FR?
I don’t believe you.
I’ve found those who are the best at what they do to be the most kind, and least vocal about their chosen work.
No problem. It’s nice to meet you, too. ;o)
“What Ive learned from this thread: feminists are angry, perpetual victims who dont like men.”
I’m hoping they are the anomaly, and we are not. ;o)
To be fair, she was trained to go to war. HOWEVER, her thinking about the life she carried was stupid, and selfish, beyond belief.
So was a friend of mine who lost his wife less than a year before he was deployed to Viet Nam.
He had two children, ages 3 and 18 months of age.
He was shot down on Christmas Eve, after his wife had died the day after Christmas the year before.
He was listed MIA until both children were grown.
His dad was an admiral, so the kids weren’t left destitute, unless you consider them being “destitute” as being without at least one parent.
To me, that is being destitute.
I’m still mad at him.
You should, at the very least, be able to cite where he is wrong, and a misogynist, before you accuse him.
“Wow, how threatened are you that you cannot acknowledge the service of another, that happens to be a woman?”
Thanks for saying so...
So, you have no quote. No actual words said by me. You just don’t like my attitude. Fine.
I’ve read his posts.
So he’s not a feminist.
Big deal.
Why are you? And it doesn’t matter what you believe. And I’m not advertising myself. My life doesn’t depend on what you or others like you believe.
It doesn't mean a thing anymore as is.
You can tell 'em archy from Class 14-67 says so.

The sad thing is that there might be a real place for women in combart arms, though likely not in Infantry. I suspect that Artillery will remain out so long as 155 rounds weigh what they do and the issue of female upper body strength remains constant, and that leaves Armor [not counting Combat Engineers and Frontline Evac Medics] Given the jobs of driver, gunner and tank commander, I think a female could handle any of those tasks as well as or better than most men, save some maintenance jobs [roadwheels, tortion bar changes] That leaves the loader's job, and that really takes a brite, male or female- or an automatic loader, which the Russians have used since the T-62 of circa 1965.
“Why are you?”
Why am I.....what?
I’m not the one who said, “And it doesnt matter what you believe. And Im not advertising myself. My life doesnt depend on what you or others like you believe.”
You said,
“Its because of what Im doing now is why.”
So, what exactly are you doing that you can’t tell us?
I can understand that you wouldn’t want to advertise something, but why put such focus on...YOU?
God love ya’...
It means a great deal.
We remember...
Stand by what I posted to you and... I did post to YOU... so you can tell your little tag team to go jump a rope. Surprised the big strong man needs a tag team.
If you think that he has a tag team, you are so wrong.
He didn’t ping me, frmail me with the link to this thread or contact me at all. In fact, we haven’t been in contact in any way whatsoever.
He said...
“Where did you get that idea? Quote, please.”
You didn’t answer until now, and you haven’t provided a quote to prove any error in his assessment, except for this...
“Check your attitude. Read your posts.”
I can tell you, madam, that he is right in his assessment, no matter how much you hate to hear that.
I never said I couldn't say what I'm doing. For heaven's sake look at my profile page.
*******************************
Agreed!
“So, what exactly are you doing that you cant tell us?”
“I never said I couldn’t say what I’m doing.”
I’m sorry...I must have misunderstood the context of you saying that you couldn’t tell us what you are doing.
I’ve looked at your page, and am very impressed with your pictures. My husband is a pilot, and has been since he was in college.
HOWEVER.......don’t like the attitude. If you think that women weren’t given special privileges, and requirements weren’t dumbed down, whether they were in jump school, the police academy, or fire fighting school, then you are sadly mistaken.
Rules were changed for women.
That’s a fact, Jack.
Plus, I have a hard time with stories like this...

Still want to know why you won’t accept a full-contact no-holds-barred race against Travis. I mean, you’re just as or more capable, right?
The trick to ending a thread is to ignore it, not go “LA LA LA CAN’T HEAR YOU”.
It means a great deal.
We remember...
Thank you very much. Now get working on your ghillie suit.
Except when something new and freakish shows up to destroy it and their nation as a result.
I hope you don't think that conservatives and veterans will silently allow the left to wipe out the ability of America to defend itself and watch the left attain it's victory in the bloodiest fashion imaginable, by attrition and loss in warfare until it results in total defeat for our nation.
That was great!
And this is why it is crucial that we work twice as hard as anybody else. Our bodies were built with huge amounts of endurance; Women are able to sustain isometric contractions for a longer period of time than men at sub-maximal intensities, meaning their muscles are more resistant to fatigue. So....you were saying?
I’m sure your’re aware it is just relative. A 75lb backpack isn’t magically converted to 45lbs woman wears it. I guess the men can carry 105lbs while the woman carry’s a 45lb pack?
Just dreamin’.
