A Texas father beat a man to death after catching him molesting his four-year-old daughter in a horse barn, The Houston Chronicle reports. The incident happened Saturday evening near Shiner, Texas.
Lavaca County Sheriff Micah Harmon identified the victim as a 47-year-old man from Gonzales, Texas. He was reported dead at the scene, however, his name will not be released until his next of kin is notified

Since when is stopping a crime in progress vigilantism!?!
The 47-yr olds beating was not a chargeable crime. Judge Roy Bean Just announced the Bar is Open and he's buying.
Good for this dad!
We need a few more pervs beat to death, then maybe the rest will get the hint.
Give the Citizen/Father a medal!
Judge Roy P. Bean’s logic (once actually used in the case of the murder of a Chinese railroad laborer - or so the story is goes - details changed to fit the current case): “It’s against the law to kill a man. A sexual predator is not a man. Therefore, case dismissed.” After going through the deceased pockets, Bean then charged the dead individual the exact amount that the man had in his pockets for “court costs.”
“identified the victim as a 47-year-old man from Gonzales, Texas.”
Isn’t the victim here a 4yo girl?
Sentence the dad to a CCW course. There are far more effective, but less satisfying, ways to deal with molesters.
Not a thread police, but see these two threads for more comments. All different sources for the story.
This father saved a lot of children from being molested. Not just his daughter. I think I would have lost my mind if I were to witness that with my child.
“any person who takes the law into his or her own hands, as by avenging a crime.”
Above is a difinition of “vigilantism”—I think it fits this situation.
This guy just saved a lot of kids from this perp.
Give him an attaboy award.
I don’t. This is also covered by self defense laws.
They are already describing the alleged molester as a “victim.” What is the fathers daughter going to do if her father ends up in prison for killing a member of a protected group. Will the father think it was worth killing the guy if it means his daughter has to grow up without him?
Vigilantiism? I call it parenting.
This might be the best story of 2012 so far.
“...molesting his four-year-old daughter...”
I would have killed the POS....
After I had control of him, I probably would have made it a very slow, painful and horrifying death.
Exactly!
Taking the law into your own hands while defending yourself or an innocent from an aggressor is lawful.
This little girl, I would bet, was NOT his first victim. But it is his last.
The 47 year old victim????? The only victim here is the four year old girl, and possibly her father.

"Yes they [pedophiles} deserve to die and I hope they burn in Hell!"
Nope.
Why would you choose one of the more disgusting episodes in American history to compare this too? Bean’s declaring that it was ok to kill a Chinaman (his word) because they weren’t actually human beings, is a far cry from the beating of a man caught in the act of molesting a four year old.
Perp obviously “no habla ingish”. Its Shiner, Texas, dude. No DA there will be charging, if he even takes it to Grand Jury, it’ll be No Billed, count on it.
Reminds me very much of that movie!
Yep. No chance to rape any more little kids.
Not by my definitions. If he had heard about the molesting afterwards and then went looking for that guy...THAT would be vigilantism. Catching him in the act and then stopping that act with extreme force is not vigilantism.
Lucky for the father he’s in TX, not in CA or MA.
i would have killed him
and nobody would ever know about it
and nobody would ever find the body
what is wrong with you?
All the Dad needs to do is claim the perp’s death was the accidental result of defending his defenseless daughter. The pervert’s death was not his intention. The adrenalin kicked in and there you go.
Don’t give a zealous whoring DA any room to charge revenge. Play dumb, humble and pretend to be sad the creep is where he belongs.
Indeed. In CA or MA, public schools would been having days where they “honor” and “mourn” the molester.
One of my ex-patients who lived in Chicago shot a man who was raping her eleven year old.
She told him to stop, and he didn't, so she shot him.
In court, she was urged to state that she was sorry, and wished she had not killed the man. She said, "If I had to do it over again, I'd shoot that bastard again."
She was sentenced to 12 years in prison.
I've been a dumb ass many times...and I know a dumb ass post...when I see one.
FWIW- I have two girls. They are grown now, and gone. IF, I was to come across what this father came across....I'm damn sure I'd try to kill them...until someone tried to stop me.
And I know it wouldn't be vigilantism.
If this dad who beat the perv to death is given prison time, he, more than likely, will NOT be bothered in prison by the inmates.
Cons hate two people with a vengeance: Rats and Child Molesters
Bingo.
Stopping a crime in progress by lethal force is not the same as avenging said crime after the fact.
Vocabulary fail: no soup for you.
I believe we have a legal defense here in the Great State of Texas....based on the theory the “he deserved killin!” This definately applies. I predict a no-bill or a not guilty verdict unless the father is white and the perp is black in which case the fake-Revs will descend on Texas and bring the Twayna circus to town - then who knows. I’ll bet the perp will be “undocumented” given the locale of the crime however.
If I’m Gov Perry I pardon him before the trial...save the taxpayers and send the message that in Texas you don’t Mess with our Kids!
The guy could have also had a heart attack out of fear...be interesting to see what the coroner says...at any rate, not guilty.
She was sentenced to 12 years in prison.
A lamentable miscarriage of justice. Hope she is doing ok.
I woulda killed him twice.
He’s freaking lucky the Mother didn’t get there first. He would have only wished he was dead.
“Since when is stopping a crime in progress vigilantism!?!”
It’s not, by itself, wrong, when the crime is in progress.
The big key here is to be sorry that the offender ultimately died from the fight, and move on.
However, holding grudges and continuing to hate the person after the act is being unforgiving,
I would have done the same thing, if a firearm wouldn’t have been within easy reach. I predict jury nullification in this case. The DA is probably scared to death of taking this thing to court. I’m sure there will be some very generous deals offered to the defense.
