Gov. Rick Scott looks ready to fight DOJ over voter purge
Miami Herald ^ | June 6, 2012 | Marc Caputo

Gov. Rick Scott’s administration is positioning itself for a showdown with the U.S. Department of Justice for demanding that Florida cease searching for and purging noncitizen voters.

The DOJ gave Florida until Wednesday to respond to a letter, sent last week, that said the purge probably ran afoul of two federal voting laws.

"A person who commits or attempts to commit any fraud in connection with voting, votes a fraudulent ballot, or votes more than once in an election can be convicted of a felony of the third degree and fined up to $5,000 and/or imprisoned for up to 5 years."

At the very least, Florida should post signs in English and in Spanish at all voting sites quoting their law and announcing that voter eligibility will be checked after the election to support the identification and prosecution of all non-citizen and otherwise ineligible voters. If Obama and Holder are able to keep their illegal supporters registered, perhaps a reminder that Florida still has the rule of law will keep them at home.

Gov. Scott (FL) should use the 119% turnout in Madison, WI as evidence of the need for voter ID.

I like that idea! How could anyone object to it; if they did you could ask them, who are your trying to protect?

I'll be suggesting it to the Florida Secretary of State, but it would carry more weight coming from Florida residents. Hopefully some FL (and other state) Freepers will like my idea too and suggest it in their areas. We need honest elections if America is to survive.

Voter fraud should be a capital crime. If treason can be, certainly voter fraud is an example of treason. You are undermining the very confidence in the system and its structure.

Same goes for GA. We had to fight the DOJ in court twice over our photo ID law.

Send Holder a copy of the Tenth Amendment, along with instructions on just where to place the suppository!

“Problem is, the local election czars are all fighting the governor.”

Yes. I ran into a RINO supervisor of elections here (Pasco Cty) that made every excuse in the book. Blamed the state legislature and state law on why his hands are tied.

I let him know my stance. He claimed dead voters can not be removed at the county level and that since 2006 it all has to pass through the state capital.
